Well for the first time in over 10 years I now have a pinball machine in my house. I picked up a 1979 Williams Flash today off craigslist. The machine is in pretty good condition, and my kids love playing it. Now I just hope I get to play it sometimes.
Daddy may get to play someday

The only issue I have found with the machine is that it does not hold settings. Hopefully it a just some dead batteries on the logic board.

Congrats! Flash is a classic.

Flash was the most exciting game of all when it first came out - awesome.!!

Congrats! Flash is one of my all-time favorite games. Now get those old batteries off the board!! They will leak and cause damage to the board.

HighNoon is correct about the batteries. And yes, that is why your settings are not holding. The game is awesome!
Put some inexpensive LED's in the backbox to spare the glass. I have mine on location at $0.25 and it earns an average of $45 per week (four day week).
Keep it waxed!

Love the pic of all the kids huddled around it. Way to score huge dad points!

Wish I could get mine working..

Start with the power supply and work your way up.

Welcome to pinside.
Great to see another CE around here.

Thanks all. I've already swapped out the batteries, and the settings are now holding. The only issue I have now is I can't get it into diagnostic mode. It won't go past the self test

Try rotating the position of the toggle switch before pushing the diag button, if that doesnt work, someone probably monkey'd around with the wiring of the coin door buttons. This is common for whatever reason.

Also i think if you scroll through all of the self test functions you end up in audit mode too.... that might only be the case on green flipper rom software tho... i know some of flash's are yellow flipper roms.

I good friend (Michael, thanks!) gave me a lead to a FREE Flash. How's that for a great friend. MPU had battery damage, but I plan to use Rottendog combo board to replace MPU and driver boards. Typical back glass issues with some red areas, but the cabinet and play field in pretty good shape. Can't wait to get it up and running!

Lucky dude.. I'd love to have another machine, just so I can tinker with it without telling the kids they can't play. Plus, I'd love to do a p-roc conversion.

Congrats and welcome. I'm glad Adam replaced the #4 display that wasn't working with the one I gave him. If you have any questions or problems let us know. Are you looking for another early SS or you want an EM too?

#16 4 years ago

You are correct, I got the machine from Adam in Bakersfield.

Yup, I have been actively looking for another early SS machine to serve as a test bed for P-roc. I would prefer a Williams machine because there is a driver board available for P-roc that makes the conversion almost plug and play. Pm me if you have something you might want to sell.
