It looks to me like there's barely any actual electronics here. The connecters are very standard 0.1" pin-headers. Then there's just a pot and a headphone connecter. The actual electronics are probably on the Spike board itself.
A casual glance at the picture says that anyone dedicated enough could build this for $10, and get the full functionality of the menu system as well.
