Quoted from SkitBPinball:
I haven't talked about it here yet, but it is one of a few Easter Eggs we put in there, so it only happens under a certain drain circumstance. If you do happen to get the call-out, remember to hit both flipper buttons right away to hear the second part, "It's cuzza the echo..." Another one you can spot in the video is while Tracking mode is starting up, Billy says, "The only way outta here is that valley that leads to the east..." Hitting both flippers immediately after that will add the second part of it, "...and I wouldn't wish that on a broke-d*ck-dog." There are a few more, but they are too offensive to post up here, and I want to leave a few for others to find on their own.
I sure do love me some Easter Eggs!! I cannot wait to check this out at Expo, your booth is going to be insane! Somebody save me a spot in line please!
Met Kevin, Aaron and Steve for the first time yesterday. Great down to earth dudes. The game is coming together very nicely and the artist looks very talented. I am hoping I get one of the early machines in December.
I will be headed back to the expo after awhile.
Not sure if this link will work for non facebookers or not.
I think Jonnyo was just messing around. The big update this weekend was a glimpse at their preliminary playfield art, the UV layer is going to be off the hook. They also talked in passing of some of their toy ideas..... should be some really neat stuff for sure. I don't see them going to Toys R Us for them.... .... especially with Matt working on this project! Mike from Flipper Fidelity was over at the SkitB booth talking about the speakers.
The topper idea has not been tossed out yet, so there is still hope that they can make something work.
Here is a thought Kevin or Aaron........just provide all the wiring, programming and hardware less the actual laser. Then just tell us the model number and a link to where we can purchase the laser ourselves.
They are hoping to get a couple machines out to people that ordered right away either late December 2012 or sometime in January. If everything goes as planned, all 250 machines delivered in 2013.
Kevin / Aaron,
I love the game and your black ramps too!
and man the life................waking up at 1:00PM!
I'm cool with it. When you finalize it, just make sure you not only inform us here but email as well.
Quoted from sammiesguys:
I love the part where they are all in the helicopter on their way to the jungle with "Long Tall Sally" blasting. It would be great if that song was somehow incorporated, although that's doubtful.
Kevin got to a mode at expo that had the song in it. It sounded pretty good.
Quoted from The_Dude_Abides:
Early word was Michael Pupo from Flipper Fidelity was going to work on the sound system for the pin and there would be no need to upgrade. Not sure if that is still the plan though.
Michael was at the booth a few times at Expo, so I am sure it is still game on.
Quoted from Kcpinballfan:
Well if I can add it my inscription is gonna be "Long tall Sally, she's built sweet, she's got everything that Uncle Jon needs"
Hands off peeps
That was my second choice, at least the Long tall Sally part. It is gonna be hard to come up with something unique to the movie...... That's for sure.
Steve had me laughing.........Kevin, you should make some type of easter egg with your new puppy showing up on the DMD!
Quoted from pmWolf:
Trust me, I firmly believe you guys will do the right thing.
I'm just saying that there are some folks out there that have NO IDEA that December 14th is even being talked about. They have NO IDEA that they should be contacting you to say if they can't make a deposit, or whatever.
If you guys are kicking around the deadline of Dec 14th, a mass email would be best...just to get the folks who don't check Pinside.
I received my email back in November, I was going to edit it (home address etc) and post it here but figured since it was sent to me privately via email, I would not.
Anybody make it out to the Shark Club yet? I was hoping to hear or see some updates from the field by now.
Skit B, keep up the good work! I can't wait to receive my Predator. I hope to see these little pink ponies in the goodie bags upon delivery of our machines.
I hope you guys enjoyed your time away from the shop. I can't imagine the mad work you will be pouring into this project again this week.
As someone else would say..................Don't F*** this up!
Hey Kevin..........since nobody has asked today..... Can we get a Christmas eve eve update? I won't expect anything from Matt since he has been pretty busy this past week or so.
If it happens today I know it will only be because I asked nicely LOL!
Merry Christmas and thanks for your reply earlier today,
Thanks for the update Kevin.....James´s work is coming together nicely.
I received my deposit confirmation.........sh*t got real again and I LOVE IT!
SkitB's original MI pinball thread had 1524 comments. This new thread is now sitting at 1901 comments in record time!
How awesome is that,
I saw the post below this morning and thought I would share!
"Arnold has hair, but more importantly, Poncho's showed up for the fight! I wonder who else is out wandering in the jungle that may show up next?"
Nice hoodie Kevin, when can I order one or two? And I can't wait for that T shirt to arrive.
As excited as people are for this project and as much detail the Skit B guys are giving. I don't think the first couple machines will ship out in batches. I plan on picking mine up the minute it is finished and playing a game with Kevin and Aaron. So my guess for the first game going to a customer is April 19th 2013.
No pressure guys,
Quoted from SkitBPinball:
Not very likely I know it's right in our backyard (front yard?), but the prototype isn't even in playable condition right now as it is going through a pretty big overhaul for the next few weeks.
On another note, I just had one of those "holy sh*t, you guys have got to see this" moments.
James is the freaking man!
A little birdie says SkitB will have their biggest update yet the first week of April if all goes as planned!
I can't freaking wait,
Quoted from Whysnow:
Rai,Yes, even the early proto I played at expo was a real deal pinball. It is not just some halfazzed attempt with a feel good story.Similar to WOZ and the P3 games at Expo, they were protos and felt that way. However, I have no reason to think all of these protos will not be well polished when complete. Actually of the 3 protos at Expo, Predator was by far the most complete code at that time.
I agree, the code was by far more complete then the other two. I am looking forward to the April update!
Quoted from spfxted:
Hi Kevin. To keep costs down I don't think it would be a bad idea to have us buy our own Toppers. Just like the Shaker Motor set up. I'm not a fan of Shaker Motors and I know some are not fans of Toppers.
I would love having a topper shooting a laser into my eye(s), I am all for it!
I was hoping to see the artwork on the playfield. Oh well we all know how these things go and yes I am ok with waiting.
Quoted from frolic:
man, I hate to be "that guy" but I almost wish they held back on the toy until the playfield art and everything was ready to show with it.
He probably didn't think he would have the prototype playfield with artwork back from the mfg and figured I would like to show something related to the artwork this weekend..................Matt's skinned body is looking bad azz!
Kevin, are Matt's balls in the machine again too?
The MPE did open at 8AM today but SkitB speaks on Saturday @ 5PM, I hope we don't have do wait that long!
Damn it.........20 new threads and no update! oh wait I am one of them contributing to the new threads.
Did somebody say cleavage?
James Dubay is the man!......very nicely done for your first Pinball machine.
I love your old school style James.
I was away for thirty minutes picking up some steaks at the store and the playfield picture gets posted on facebook.
Nice job Kevin, Aaron and Steve.........
How many new posts by 8AM tomorrow?
I really dont think any changes will be made to the playfield art this late in the game. I myself dont see a need for it either though.
Quoted from BackAlleyMatt:
As to slimming down the bodies, there was a reason why I did not do that. I wanted to body to be that of one of Arnolds team. Not the skinny villagers that where picked off. Seeing as Arnolds team where well built guys they would have more muscle.
As for the arms being closer I actually hung from some monkey bars and let my arms hang there while the wife took pics every time I hung upside down my arms went more straight, that of an I surrender upside down pose. For my hands to be closer I actually had to make my arms move if. This was not a natural pose. There by the arms where posed that way.
Also the fingers are all touching do to molding purposes. When u hang upside down your fingers are never touching like in the sculpt especially your thumb. But if I was to cast it with all open fingers it would be extremely pron to air bubbles when casting it.
Hope this clears some things up
From the looks of it, I am going to be one happy Predator customer.......that's for sure!
Quoted from Tweedlefuzz:
Fine, I will share the art updates I heard then:
Skull going back to "white with blood n' stuff"... that's a a quote
Arnold is getting lowered
The blue is getting changed
That is cool to hear, shouldnt be too much work for James. I figured for sure they were not going to change much of anything.
Quoted from Tweedlefuzz:
Enough of your petty bickering! Moar pics!
Look what came for its test fit while I was playing.....
Matt`s work never ceases to amaze me!
Nope I do not claim to own until the pin is in my possession, I dont add it to my wish list or own list here either.
Quoted from TigerLaw:
Agreed about not falling into the trap, but it is good to have some general idea of when we may be seeing this machine. A lot of us have space issues and may pass on a machine if we think Predator will be done this year but we may go ahead and pick up that machine if we think we are more than a year away on Predator.
I fall into the group above. I'd like to buy the RFM in Lafayette that is up for sale right now but have space issues so I am not picking it up. If Predator was more than a year away though I would go ahead and buy the RFM and then sell it 9 months from now to free up the space.
So knowing this game may go into production in June has helped me make the decision to pass on the RFM, because it isn't worth the hassle for two or three months of play time, but if it was a year away I would buy and play the RFM in the interim.
I know that feeling............I sold my TOM about a year and a half too soon while I was waiting for my WOZ (I needed room). And I did not benefit from the leap in price that I could have, had I hung on to it longer.
You need to add a picture of your new puppy somewhere in the playfield or at least in the DMD somewhere obscured of course.
Quoted from spfxted:
Yeah, I think they already said, Shaker Motors, Toppers and the frills are our responsibility.
I remember asking them about a shaker motor last year and they said it will not come with one. They were never a big fan of shakers but since I asked, they would add the code and a harness so that we could put an aftermarket one in if we wanted.
Quoted from TigerLaw:
I hereby revoke your ban about talking about boobs. You may now discuss them freely. (Not sure if I have the power to do that or not, but it is worth a try).
I want shaker's in all my games. Glad they are coding for it. Next to invisiglass I think shakers are the best upgrade for any machine. Anything that gives the player greater feedback is desirable. I hope the games come pre-drilled like the ones for Stern for the shaker install.
I have only installed one shaker motor and that was in my IronMan. I had to drill my own holes for mine though, the Pinball Life shaker came with a template for the holes.
I don't know if there is only one brand of shaker motors but if so pre drilled holes would be cool!
Quoted from blondetall:
Is there going to be any kind of an update on the production order now that we've bumped down and moved around a little? I know it's still likely to change some, but just wondering how much closer I've gotten to the half-way point.
Yes, how am I looking? Did I move up any yet?
If you are going to post the above, can you at least remove the link so that people don't actually start clicking on it? If they stumble across it on the website is one thing but seeing it right there is another.
Quoted from sammiesguys:
I wouldn't mind doing option 4, but I wonder if we will be able to buy an additional translite. I wouldn't mind putting that one on the wall or something.
Considering that I would be paying for the machine up front all at once and I don't think that many will do it for what ever reason. I would like to see a separate signed translite thrown into the equation as an added bonus instead (for free of course).
Because I don't want my game signed either........sorry kids.
Quoted from Tweedlefuzz:
Ill be trying to get Matt to do something fun with the speaker panel most likely.
If it is wood, Matt will take care of business right away I'm sure but I think it is plastic so that might take him awhile. I am sure 250 people could persuade him to push it along quicker though!
The more I look at it the more I like the speaker panel, the artwork is a missing touch from games lately. But yes remove PREDATOR from it and it could be great!
The machine just begs for some black nickel powder coat rails and lockdown bar etc or maybe something to match the color of the Predators face on the backglass?
I was going to send you a picture Chris, to prove I was indeed shitting in a manhole, but thought it might be in poor taste. Trying to class it up.
You feeling ok Jay? This talk of being classy has me concerned!
Quoted from TigerLaw:
The toys haven't been added to it yet. It will look more complete then. I agree; the boys still have some work to do. It is awesome they are this far along though!!!
I`m sure they will be going full bore again after this weekends show. I wasn't expecting to see a populated playfield with artwork, that's for sure.
Drano..........how are we going to do the mirror blades on this with that light strip going along the sides? Any ideas? Or do we have to go mirrorless on this one?
I never realized the work you did Ted........ a little snipit from Wikipedia
Ted is an American film director, producer, actor and writer. He is best known for his work in low-budget independent films, most often in the horror genre.
His first film work was with the 1980s horror title Fiend where he acted as producer. He then produced two more horror movies, Nightbeast and Return of the Aliens:The Deadly Spawn, before he made his directorial debut with Regenerated Man in 1994. Ted also either produced, directed or wrote, Vampire Vixens From Venus, Fantastic Filmshow I & II, Generation X, This Thing of Ours and Destination Fame.
I ran across this picture the other night and posted it in blondetalls moderator party thread.
Cameron`s house in the movie made news in our area about 2 years ago when it went up for sale.
Quoted from hollywood:
I tried reading everything...I was getting a headache! Lol! I too was hoping for a Skit-B update!!!
I met Kevin at MPE (though he really never gave me time), he (and his mom) seemed really cool!
If build order is an issue....I will voluntarily take last! I am in no hurry and I trust in what these guys are doing. I'm sure they are experiencing major headaches right now trying to coordinate everything for the grand finale!!
Kevin, if you are still alive , you are still more than welcome to use my restaurant as a launching pad for your Canadian games!!!! I'm only 45min away!!
Kevin is alive, I can tell you that much.
Quoted from SkitBPinball:
I'm here, I'm alive, and things are still on schedule. I wish I could get more into it right now. For those of you hoping for an updated build number, the emails are coming together currently so expect those soon. For those of you who are still waiting on tshirts, the very last of them will be in this week and will be going out as soon as they show up. For build timing, I can only assume here, but we expect initial units to be completed and shipping out BEFORE the Chicago expo this year. Based on projections of ~10 per week, minus the 15-20 drop outs we've had since the last time build orders were stated, figuring a ballpark for your game should be fairly accurate. Thanks for everything, guys. Back to work.
Super excited and can't wait to make the trip to pick up my machine.
Now back to work Kevin!
Quoted from blondetall:
1. You people scare me.
2. Congrats to all the guys moving onto the owner list.
3. Does this mean tons of people are dropping out right now, or just that Kevin is finally getting caught up on emails?
4. I guess this means I'm moving up the production order #, and probably need to start saving up $ faster.
Kevin is just getting caught up is all.
I think Kevin also said that the next update (video) should be the final one before the game goes into production. So hang in there as I am sure they are putting the final touches on this awesome game and they will be showing it to us as soon as possible.
Hoping someone ahead of me dropped out!
Still waiting for my email........Slow servers!
Kevin! send it again!
Quoted from Drano:
Still #3 and #3... yeah baby!
However, I want to pick mine up on my trip to EXPO so... depending when they get built, I most certainly won't be the first owner to unbox mine :sniff:
Ahhh, so I still have a chance! and you know I was messing around when I said I hope someone ahead of me drops out, I know you are in for the long haul.
You here that Kevin?
That is definitely an awesome looking mod for the game. I love your props and such Matt.
Some close up of Matt's work......... stuff that is inside the game and one or maybe a pair that would go on the outside of the game.
The guys from SkillShot are nice people, they have a really need fold up pinball machine that fits in a carrying case. StarFox just like Duckhunt was just filler work, they can't work on Predator 24 hours a day. I can't wait to see what other surprises Kevin and crew have in store for us tomorrow. See you guys after the PBL open house.
Quoted from blondetall:
Sigh. Really? Still? People... the art is exactly what they wanted and envisioned. See here: http://www.pinballnews.com/shows/expo2013/index.html
"The game they were showing in the hall is, as Kevin described it, their release candidate, built the way they always envisioned it."
Of course they didn't poll everyone and ask them what kind of art they preferred. I have the original owner's list... want to guess how many people have come and gone since we put it together last year? They haven't asked for a full payment, so there's no telling who the actual owners are going to be. Why should they make it for anyone other than themselves? They showed us the art, and we all nit-picked it like crazy. They fixed a few things, even something that Kevin himself loved got changed, and we still whined. So they went silent and did it the way they wanted. I don't recall Stern or JJP ever taking a poll to ask people exactly what they liked. They present a product, and you either buy it or you don't. Heck, Star Trek's sales would look a lot different right now if they'd made the slick white/chrome LE version everyone was begging for.
As evidenced in just the last 2 pages of posts above, they are not going to please everyone. There is no way to poll 250 people (who can all still easily jump ship at any time, by the way) and get a consensus. It is what it is. There have been no major changes, and there will be no big huge major changes. We've seen it being played with actual gameplay and modes, the latest pictures are posted with most of the plastics and toys shown, and only tweaks here and there will be done before being finished. Yes, the UV has to be fixed and seen, but if you don't like the toys, artwork, layout, target count, trim color, etc... a UV coating probably isn't going to completely change your mind one way or the other. Yes, it was very disappointing that it didn't work properly and correctly as a near-finished product at Expo. But Predator is what it is: love it or hate it, but don't expect it to change just because you want it to. There are plenty of other choices out there, and as evidenced by the P-ROC line-up, you can always make your own machine from scratch exactly how you like it.
Me? I'm still in as long as my pony is in the goody bag.
I spoke to Kevin today. They haven't given up, far from it. Some shit happened the past few days that was un expected and they are moving forward. The team is working their ass off on this project. StarFox and Sonic was filler work to keep them occupied while waiting for vendors etc. Everyone knows what Jack went / is going through, this shit takes time. Am happy that I wasn't able to play Predator this weekend? No of course not I was really looking forward to it. Could they have communicated a bit better sure......but they are working on like 3 hours of sleep this week and I personally decided to cut them some slack. Their enthusiasm for pinball speaks for itself and they are fully committed.
On a side note, they are working on fixing the vertebrae so that it is lined up with the skull.
One unrelated side not Centerflunk loves beer!
Edit: the visorboy pictured is Centerflank.
Kevin, sounds like you are re charged and ready to take on the world! I love what I am hearing / seeing and that you are still taking suggestions this late in the game. I am sure some just want the game to ship but you have to get this right the first time and thanks to JJP most people are use to delays.
On a side note: finish eating your tacos next time ok?
I like the clear inserts allowing us to do different colored LED`s etc but I think I would like the colored insert look better then the clears while sitting static.
Maybe colored inserts for the lanes near the ramps (top left & right portion of playfield) and clear for Predators arm controller area.
Quoted from rai:
I feel like I'm reading an eye chart, what is the 4th insert?
Do you feel like the type is clear enough? I know it's a crappy picture but in a darkened room will it be more clear?
The second insert says RUNAWAY or RUN AWAY??
Remember Kevin uses one of those dumb phones to take his pictures and videos with and so do I, I am sure that is why it's difficult to read. You can't blame him though, it is a lot faster to upload.
Somebody please correct me if I am wrong but I thought the pony wasn't visible until the UV lighting comes on?
Email Kevin and get put on the wait list. It doesn't hurt to try. Email him though don't PM him here.
I have a feeling we will be seeing something real soon. And I have an even better feeling that it's going to be kick ass!
My fingers are crossed........
I sure am glad I didn't sell my Glo Balls, I think they will look pretty good in this game.
