Ah, gotcha. I hope someone records it and puts it on youtube for those of us who can't be there.

+1 Someone break out the video camera

I wonder what the actual margins are for the home brew....I love the boutique model, especially the range of choices now...Jpop, Skitb, and Spooky..
It will be very interesting to see if you can make pins at that price, make money, thrive and stay in business for the long run...I'm rooting hard, these guys have a great attitude

I wonder what the margins are as well, and I think the guys you listed above have an idea. But I don't think even they can be sure. None has actually produced a game (Jpop is the closest obviously). Until they do, who knows?

Im really rooting for these guys too. It's a difficult and complex undertaking, and if they succeed, it will great for everyone that loves pinball.

Seriously, don't make me threaten to stroke out again (though that seemed to work for the art reveal).

Ted, you crack me up with your GIF's.

(staying on topic)
I am 100% on-board with the hand-drawn playfield art. Glad to see it coming along nicely. There may be tweaks to it and there may not. Either way, it is a damn sight better than recent releases.

#3257 6 years ago

I like it now...but there WILL be tweaks!

oh a big time failure I am

#3260 6 years ago

ok lets try this again...

nevermind..............I suck

#3261 6 years ago

There's no such thing as a fail...ok, that was pretty bad...

#3262 6 years ago

Ok, I was only able to get one decent quality playfield shot of the Predator game with my SLR. There were so many people around the game, it was pretty difficult. Anyhow, here are some playfield details from the shot I took. Predator01.jpg Predator02.jpg

#3263 6 years ago

Two more.

Predator03.jpg Predator05.jpg

#3264 6 years ago

Here is the entire playfield at about the maximum size allowed on Pinside. Again, it is not a very good shot, but I couldn't get a straight on shot with so many people standing around.

BTW, the example at MPE is printed on posterboard, not on wood yet.

Predator04.JPG

#3265 6 years ago

Thank you Gearhead much better shots, very appreciated.

p.s. All this predator talk, and playfield shots have driven me to watch the blu-ray tonight. Have not watch predator for probably 15 years, my guess it holds up well.

#3266 6 years ago

A poster board with the playfield art on it would be cool to have. I want one?

#3267 6 years ago

Wow, with the better pics, I like it more. The guys look way cooler. The explosions? Lets see it populated and lit!

Quoted from rommy:

Their price point is superior to their competition. Their competition cannot match their price point under any circumstances. (The Stern Pro maybe? if prices were to stabilize) Until there is competition at their price point they will play alone.

I have seen a lot of posts like this saying how superior the price point is for Predator. I'm not saying it's bad. But it is not like you can't get some great games for $5K

For example, a brand new Tron which I think is a top game, it's probably a solid A-list or high B-list game. Costs about the same as Predator. I'm not trying to be down, but pointing out that for the cost of Predator, we could get NIB Tron for example.

I am not really happy about the art work of Predator. It sounds like most people think it's great. I'm not so sure. I mean, as we can see the hands are an issue are well as the shoulder and and just think the whole idea of a line up of various characters just plop them down together. Not like a scene from the movie, just a clump of characters from the movie to me seems a bit uninspired.

I know we get on Stern for pasting a group of X-Men or whatever on the cabinet, or Avengers characters. But this line-up of Predator characters is not much better. And to me, the art (comic) interpretation, is less than I would care for, I'd rather have photo realistic art than this square jaw comic art.

I do really like the Skit-B crew and think the rules or the log-on system is very neat. I am reserving final judgment until I see a complete pin. But the art it's not to my liking.

If Stern only makes 250 of a pin, it gets called an LE and costs 7k. That's the big difference.

#3270 6 years ago

But you made one mistake in your calculation...everybody and their mother has a Tron..in a year they will be selling for 4K, but there are only 250 Predators..so if a collector wants one he has to wait for one of us to give up his/hers. Also judging from what we've seen the game play the mood and the quality of the material used will be superior to most Sterns...Think about 250 machines in the whooooole world.

this is a good point. Again, no one knows the quality (ie lasting durability, could this be a fiasco, if there is some issue that we do not appreciate at this time?). I mean Stern has been building pins for a long time. I know they are cheap in some areas. I know, peg legs, fiddle snap locks. Etc.. But they stand behind their games. I had a problem with my 9 month old XM and they sent out a whole new flipper assemble even tho it was no longer under warranty.

I was a bit under-impressed with the Predator art package. But then, maybe I was expecting too much. I guess, don't expect JPop art quality for Stern pro price. Something has to give. But just to me, I'd buy Predator becasue it's rare and it should be cool. But I just don't think the art is anything special (or maybe I should say the art is a subtraction in my eyes).

Man, seriously, this sucks. It is 5pm, updates should be coming literally any second . . . and my wife is making me go to a wedding for people I don't even know . . . arg! I will sneak peaks at my cell phone.

I think that's right on.......tough to tell without it populated though, maybe that's why the upper looks the way it does...maybe the group of characters should be much larger and less blue and explosions?....it will look great in the end!

#3274 6 years ago
Quoted from rommy:

Why not build custom pins for collectors? TBL has a market apparently. From a manufacturing sales standpoint I would much rather produce something that was pre-ordered and pre-paid. I would take the no risk approach on theming for sure. No guessing. Start a thread asking what do y'all want next? If 250 buyers are willing to pony up for a theme, make it.
Still, not one has shown up, new home-brew pins I mean. When I have one in my gameroom that says SkitB there will be much rejoicing.

I would seriously consider bankrolling a run of WARRIORS and/or MAD MAX pins.

I think that upper area with explosions will be were the pop bumpers are and make sense. Im gonna say wait til its populated before you critique that. But I can see why everyone is complaining about the shoulders. Try to replicate that body contortion with yourself and something gun sized, it looks off I think because it looks un-natural.

Two things... Nobody knows the last-ability of ANY game till it has been out for a while. Also, get on the waiting list now if you think you have even a small chance of actually getting a predator. They have been sold out for a long time. It is my understanding that all deposits have been paid, and after playing it a bunch this weekend, the coding is amazing! I do not expect that many more people will drop if the physical parts hold up to the code quality... And i see no reason to not think the skitB team will deliver a very quality product. Shot layout and coding are set. DMD animations are tight. Callouts...CHECK. Things are falling in place.

I also want to point out nobody here has seen the UV layer yet. Wanna get my eyes on that.

Tron LEs they made 400 and they were 5600.00. They also didnt sell out right away either. Now your right theyre around 7k
Also Stern has a little bit more overhead than some kids in the basement.

Im unimpressed as well. Looks like a kid drew that exploding Hut at the top of the PF.

#3279 6 years ago

Any word on the Skit-b talk yet?

That is not today's price point for LEs it is well above that now and 400 is a lot more than 250. Also, all that overhead and stuff to do make some things get overlooked like the code on the pins upon release. Some have been almost unplayable and some have gone unfinished. I think the code upon Predator's release will feel done to players which would be a welcome change IMO.

Quoted from DrStarkweather:

I was caught a little by surprise by the art package and was expecting something a little different given the backbox art they went with. However, as you said there is a whole other dimension to the art package (UV layer) that we haven't seen yet not to mention the plastic and toys. As Skit-B mentioned the art is not final so there may be some revisions to come. So I will just have to wait to pass judgement it's hard to get a feel for how it will all come together at this point.

#3281 6 years ago

Wow no talk updates, it's been two and a half hours now.....

#3282 6 years ago

Seeing the better resolution makes a big difference for me on two points: The lower half looks even better, and, well... I guess I have to admit the upper half, especially the middle region's huts and explosions, look sort of mailed in. I haven't changed my opinion of the colors, but even the detail on those huts/explosions isn't up to the table own's standards on, say, the loop shots.

I wonder if stuff like that and the Predator's hand are part of the unfinished stuff?

Yea like i had stated above they've went up about 1000 since Tron LE. I hope its a completed pin with completed code. Im looking fwd to the UV hidden ink. I wasnt sure that was a definite fact yet.

#3284 6 years ago

I just got back from MPE...played PRED and will have to reserve my judgement until I see a final product. As others have said, I was not in "love" with the artwork package...though, it was better than I could have drawn! I thought the game and it's artwork may have had a darker feel to it. The royal blue was really not to my liking...I wanted to feel like I was deep in the jungle...darker colours? More green? I am not really sure. I assume the black light will illuminate blood on the trees like in the movie??
I AM NOT a great pinball player, and I really didn't know what exactly to shoot for, but the game was still a lot of fun, even on the whiteboard. I am a big fan of playfield toys and cannot wait to see their interactions within the game.
The sound package was simply awesome. TONS of machine-guns, bullets and explosions going off all around you. Just like in movies, the sound makes everything better. You felt like you were under fire!!
I wonder one thing about the game....the right ramp has a VUK that drops the ball on to the ramp then feeds it down to the flippers. Will this wear the plastic ramp over time? A constant ball dropping on it? Just curious and I am sure time will tell.

Kevin and his mom were super people to talk with and were there to answer every question anyone had. It was one of the most entertaining pins that I had the opportunity to play today - even in its unfinished stage.

I am happy to still be PRED #156 but I can't get super excited about it until I see the completed game!

Enough of your petty bickering! Moar pics!

Look what came for its test fit while I was playing.....

#3288 6 years ago

Now we're talkin'!! Woot

#3289 6 years ago

those toys are awesome, but they really conflict with the cartoony playfield.

Dunno, I know people are clamoring for hand-drawn but I wonder if a photoshop job using movie elements might have worked better in this particular case.

#3291 6 years ago

You son of a... AWESOME! Alright back to AC/DC code update. Keep the news coming, fellas!

#3292 6 years ago

I also heard a ton of updates as James was there too! Art updates... the skull being one of them.

Don't want to spoil any surprises as they said the update was in a few days.

Has anyone seen James' other art on Facebook? Shit is violent. "Dark" if you will

I agree.

Nice realistic elements but don't exactly fit with the overly cartoonish art.
