I know, sarcasm is too lost on the internet. It's all in good fun and, of course, Steve and I didn't help much by perpetuating it. These threads are honestly a little more fun when they get slightly derailed, anyways, right?
This literally had me laughing out loud. Good play, sir.
We have to be super careful with the art, so stuff like this probably won't be happening. The last thing we need is to have this awesome artwork finally be finished and have Fox tell us to change it because we tried to sneak something in. Trust me, we've thought about this a few times. We REALLY wanted to hearken towards our next game (which is decided! start rumoring now!) in the DMD and on the playfield art somewhere, but we just can't risk this thing getting slowed down for something fluffy
Quoted from system11:Please do use it sparingly, there are quite a few of us who like pinball machines to not look like someone puked several bags of skittles all over the playfield.
We're waiting for these new lights to show up, so we haven't been able to test them at all, but we're hoping the beauty of using a flood of white light during normal gameplay from above the playfield will be the ability to "drown out" the colored LEDs in the normal GI spots to make them more of accents than anything else. I guess we'll see, but I'm pretty hopeful. While we're on the subject, if someone doesn't like the look of colored LEDs, a pre-owner can opt for retro lighting instead throughout the whole game except for the UV, which your eyes never actually see.
Great, now everybody is gonna want me to send them a custom Terminator 2 pin with every shirt order... Nice game, btw
The shirts we sent out were all the shirts that were formally ordered. For those of you who donated early, they will be sent out shortly. And Ted, I fully expect to see a gif of you in your new shirt on here doing the Truffle Shuffle or something when you get yours.
Color changing lights are cool, but I'm still not sold on them being used in inserts and such. The Ac\Dc at our local venue has them and it confuses me hard. It's an awkward feeling to be confused by a pinball machine after playing them for 25 years (especially since I'm only 30...), so I can only imagine how weird it must be for new players...
This suggestion is as much of a pain as the owners want it to be. Once the pre-order list settles down and is a little more finalized, everyone who opted to share their shipping info will be grouped by country and region and be sent a list containing the email addresses of the other people in their country or region to discuss amongst the group. If you are a bit earlier in the production order but 5 other people in Florida are getting one, you can opt to wait until the others' are ready to have the game sent along with the others. I can elaborate on this more if you like.
We'll be in touch over email within a day or two.
On another note, here is a list of things changing in the prototype machine before the next video update:
New power supply going in. No more giant transformer in the bottom of the cab with huge amounts of wires coming out. Power supply works with American, European and Australian voltage inputs. Pretty fancy for a power supply, to be sure.
Color change "overall illumination" getting installed in place of the cathode lighting we've been using. Coding this stuff should be pretty simple, so you might be seeing some neat new effects being done with it in the video already. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
All new driver boards will be installed as well. It has been the plan from the start, but these will finally take the place of the poor old WPC-S driver board that has been in the prototype since the beginning. They also eliminate the need for a Fliptronics board or anything like it.
CPU board will be installed in the machine. This finally removes the need for a PC to run the game outside of the cabinet itself. For the first time, Predator will be able to standalone and be turned on and off like any other game. I'm a little nervous about it, honestly, but it will be a huge step towards making it "real."
Clear ramps are already on there, but for many of you it will be your first time seeing them and it's worth noting.
Flashers will be installed in the playfield in their initially plotted locations. If they need to be moved later they will be, but they will at least be there.
I think that's about it, but there may be more that I'm forgetting, so stay tuned. There are a lot of things to be done on this list, so it may be a little while before the next video comes out. Just a heads up on that
