Two days and two episodes....if you didn't hate us before you surely will now.

Jim Askey returns to This Flippin Podcast to discuss his Indiana Jones Continued project and where it has gone in the last year, and then we dive into his time working with Jpop at Zidware as the coder of the several games that were under development during the companies tumultuous history including a title I hadn't heard about elsewhere. A lot of really cool insightful information any comments, questions, concerns get ahold of us, and enjoy the talk!

So did you ever wonder what it was like to work at Zidware? How would it be to discuss and debate pinball design with JPop? How about "where's the fucking money?", did that question ever cross your mind when thinking about the debacle that has taken place in our wonderful little hobby over the last few years. Well here is your chance to hear it from one of the very few people who was there as part of the Zidware team, Mr. Jim Askey sits down with Tommy to tell his side of his years spent working for JPop as well as updates on several of his pinball projects focused specifically on converting Williams IJ code to play on a Stern IJ4 machine!

Thanks to you and Jim for his zidware story. Always nice to fill in some of the blanks.

#353 7 years ago

Hope you guys enjoy it. It is quite a long chat, over 2 hours 30 mins My Zidware story I try to tell in a chronological order from June 2012 onwards. There was plenty to cover!

#354 7 years ago

Great episode! Quite excellent to hear Jim's side in detail and I agree that now that it's public I think it helps the community at large.

I'll throw in another wish that AP gets this done and makes things right by everyone who is owed something by jpop.

Many thanks Tommy and Jim!

Thanks for listening to it, and again to Jim for taking the time to sit and chat. We just lined up another really cool interview for next week as well that I think a lot of people will really enjoy.

#356 7 years ago

I listened to the Jim interview, thought it was great. Unlike some, I do want to know the behind the scenes stuff. I work in manufacturing and find this stuff fascinating.

I started the Josh interview on my way home last night and I think Ella is amazing. She talks about pinball the way my youngest son talks about minecraft. Just an adorable coherent rambling that you almost expect to hear "The end." when they are finished. The Josh tuff is pretty cool too, but I'm nowhere near the end of that segment. I was thinking right before Taylor said it that PAPA should do HERB for non-A divisions, and ticket runs for A-division. We'll see how the rest goes today.

#357 7 years ago

Yeah should definitely be listening to pinball podcasts/news today, not much else going on in the regular radio media....

Episode 35 somehow happened. Taylor and I are joined by Dirty Donny.....I'm not kidding. Amazing time talking to Donny about his work for Metallica, Stern Pinball and his new book Pinball Wizards and Blacklight Destroyers. Hope you guys enjoy it as much as we did.

So Tommy - if you were to be a manny to the children of a relative wouldn't that make you a manny-kin?

I think I would! But seriously how has Taylor not heard of a manny before?

New source of pinball money here I come.

Oh yeah, and if those last two posts don't make any sense that means you may need the link to check out our newest episode, lucky #36, where we are joined by everyone's favorite pinball enthusiast Mr. Todd MacCulloch! Seriously its like all of our usual ramblings just amplified by Todd's awesome presence!

http://www.podcastgarden.com/episode/ep-36-snap-crackle-pinball_93608

Enjoy and we will be back with one more episode Christmas Extravaganza before the end of the year so stay tuned!

Todd MacCulloch?! I thought he was just into horse racing games.

I guess he also owns a pinball game or two come to think of it.

#366 7 years ago

Enjoyed the ep, guys. Nice work. T-Mac is always fun to hear from. Kudos to Tommy for staying up past Taylor's bedtime. Taylor, I am seriously amped to hear the alternate (read: FUN) Tournament Format episode. I don't have enough friends DEEP into pinball who would suffer through a serious tournament at my house, but man, I'll bet I could rope 'em in for a good wacky just-for-kicks tourney. CAN'T WAIT.

Keep it up, guys!

always a good listen

I reckon Jody Dankenberg put in for the acknowledge himself for the stern book

and Dirty Donny's book turned up yesterday so fast shipping to Oz but sadly whisked away until Christmas

#368 7 years ago

Haha Jody.....pretty sure he does anything possible to avoid any sort of affiliation with the likes of our kind.

Did Tommy Skinner win the Powerball???

Quoted from bridgeman:

Did Tommy Skinner win the Powerball???

I wish, I literally told a few other pinheads about how high the jackpot was that day and I was going to get a ticket on my way home from school.....I forgot. If I find out it was sold at the gas station by my house I may cry.

#375 7 years ago

Well damn. When I heard it was bought in Lafayette I was rooting for you.

Episode 49 dropped last week.

http://www.podcastgarden.com/episode/episode-49_108036

Pete Talbot, co-creator of the Pinbox 3000, joins us to talk about their product. Gabe D'Annunzio is interviewed about the upcoming Pintastic New England show and his background in the hobby.

If you haven't listened before, Tommy and I are both heavily involved in our pinball scenes. Tommy operates in Layette, IN and runs numerous leagues and a match play tournament called Mainstreet Mayhem. He represented Indiana at the 2016 IFPA SCS finals in TX this year. Tommy has been known to drive all over the country hunting down games and his first podcast were mostly him on drives that were featured on the One and Done Podcast.

I have been in the hobby for a little over a decade. I started a local house league about 4 years ago that is now on it's 10th season. I also host an IFPA sanctioned tournament called Flip This and run series of charity tournaments called Pin(t)s for Kids that raises money for a local food bank program that helps kids by providing healthy take home meals for the weekends. I have been providing a playfield rail making service for over a decade, Reese Rails are made from oak and finished in lacquer. I also recently developed a mod for GB that prevents the ball from hopping over the low outlanes that have been a problem in the game.

We really appreciate all the feedback we have gotten over the years are excited to be coming up on our 50th episode. Thanks as always for listening. -Taylor

Thank you YeOldPinPlayer for bumping our updates as we are always a bit slow to get to it.

Episode 53 Taylor and I are joined again by your now reigning Pinburgh Champion Colin MacAlpin to discuss his victory, as well as other recent happenings in pinball. There is debate over how to spend his winnings, what new games look best, and as usual plenty of technical difficulties.

This was all recorded before Friday's news broke on John Trudeau. I'm sure we will undoubtedly discuss in a future episode, but for now, kick back, crank up the volume, and enjoy our light hearted ramblings.

Oh, and as a bit of an experiment, after two years of doing the show, I figured hey maybe we should have a website with some basic stuff on it so here it is

https://thisflippinpodcast.wordpress.com/

Feel free to check it out. As I get bored at work from time to time perhaps it may become home to some philosophical ramblings, but let's be real it will pretty much just be more pinball. Check it out!
