Never really looked at this as an infomercial at all. Just two cool guys showing off a cool product! Thanks for the video Zach and Greg. I was on the fence about these, but after seeing the video I’m ordering 25 of them. I am a bit of an audiophile so to each there own, but these kick ass!! Thank you

Quoted from Hollywoodbone:

I don’t understand the backlash. I really don’t. I literally have product that’s sitting in my basement that I have been asked to try out and it’s still sitting there because neither Zach nor I could stand behind it.

Please send the Pin Monk Tibetan Rectal Bliss cream back, then. I try to do something nice for your ass after that Dominoes blowout and this is the thanks I get.

Geez.

I've installed a couple of Dan's systems and they are a big improvement vs. stock, and by enclosing the amp and simplifying installation he's addressed the only weak points in my opinion. If you want higher end speakers then you're free to buy, but the Pyles are much better than stock and while I'm no expert they seem as good or better than Flipper Fidelity and Pinball Pro. Other than Color DMD and non-glare glass, I think sound upgrades like PinWoofer and PinSound are the best mods going. Don't know if Zack and Greg are getting anything more than a free system but so what - they're not pretending to be Consumer Reports and how else are you suppose to market stuff in a niche hobby. Dan and his daughter started a kitchen table business and happy to see them taking it to the next level.

The only thing I really do not like is the perpendicular mounting of the top board hanging off the CPU board at the top, and that smaller board hanging off the bottom. I would have enclosed them, at least on the bottom of each board, and mounted them against the backbox using any of the available posts nearby used for wire routing, then had a jumper cable to the CPU board for a much cleaner install. Seems very sketchy the way it's done.

(I have no interest in selling amplifer kits, so this is just an opinion, not some competitive jab)

Thanks for the input! We decided early on that hard docking the power board was a better idea because we want the power solution in an always known state. It's also very simple for anyone to add something as tricky as power this way. Leaving it up to the customer to secure screws and everything else is not only more difficult, but it also increases the risk of somebody dropping a screw behind the MPU board for example. We don't disagree there are multiple ways to do it! We just think this way will have the most benefit.

For Spike and SAM the expander boards are hard docked for simplicity and risk reduction similar to the power board, whereas all other platforms cable over like you suggested.

My only complaint would be with that board that sits on the spike board as well.
Not because of enclosurement, but it puts the connector under stress by it‘s weight.

Edit: Meant „concern“, not „complaint“.

You can see in this photo from our website that we recommend feeding the wires up through the above wire looms to provide some more support. We also supply a bundle of extra wire ties. We'll double check our instructions to make sure this is clear to everyone!

If you have the pinovators board already on you spike cpu with the 3.5mm jack, can you just use that?

Quoted from chuckwurt:

Hey chuckwurt - the short answer is no; our system requires the PinWoofer Expander Board. However, there is a 3.5mm TRS line out jack on the GT amp so you can run an external from there. Hope that helps!

Quoted from PinTweeter:

What does this mean? If you're using patch cables, they're connected or they're not. If the cables are plugged in, the state is known. I think most users can understand the concept of plugged/unplugged.

Plugging in a patch cable and plugging in a board are essentially the same operation.

And if dropping screws behing the MPU is the concern (as it should be - anything above the MPU is a bad idea) that's no problem. I was thinking the two posts below the MPU were the best mounting location. Were I installing this, I would make a tray for the two boards and a single patch cable with multiple connectors to clean up the install. The tray would connect to the two posts on the backbox below the MPU, and both boards and the tray would be parallel to the MPU. It would really clean up the install and reduce the chance for problems. Something like this...

Just wanted to make sure you knew what I was talking about. You may have been visualizing something else from what I said.

Lol the internet is an awful place. As a new entrant into the hobby, I think it's great to see the different options I have for modifying my game. These install videos, even on products that may not be my cup of tea, really lower the "intimidation factor" of opening up my game and making it my own. Just my 2¢: Keep up the good work. Hopefully I'm watching your videos long enough to get jaded too!

Quoted from Hollywoodbone:

I literally have product that’s sitting in my basement that I have been asked to try out and it’s still sitting there because neither Zach nor I could stand behind it. If we don’t like it we don’t record it and it’s pulled from our pins.
I guess I can’t wrap my mind around why a few people want us to show a product or a pin and just shit all over it. That’s not my nature. I’m not taking a product that some one believes in and devoted tons of time and money in creating and shit all over them publicly. If that’s what your looking for turn on an episode of Shark Tank

I have no issue with your videos and I quite enjoy them. But, I think the backlash is a result of your review philosophy. The perception is that you are only showcasing products that are great, with a recommendation to buy, however there are no videos showing people what to avoid. If you treated product reviews like your pinball machine reviews (you don't only review machines that you fully enjoy), the perception would be much more even.

That's my take on the matter at least.

He just did say or write something about it.

As long as you get the stuff for free to review it (wich is not REALLY for free) it‘s fair that you at least tell the sender that your review wouldn‘t be in his interrest and stop it right there.

Doing it this way you don‘t lie to people and you'll be still on good terms with the sender.

If you buy that stuff yourself:
Doesn‘t matter!

Zach never talks about BKSoR, so I „assume“ he doesn‘t like it but there‘s no need to talk smack about it.

Bring on the Hot Wheels and R&M reviews!! Need some more Zach and Greg in my life!

#5266 3 years ago
Quoted from Yelobird:

“I know Zach thinks I’m here to rag on him but I’m not! Now let me shit on what he did lol. Seriously, is nobody ever happy with just appreciating someone/anyone simply showing a product that they think is worthy of interest? Is the content only of value if they shit on it publicly to show how tough they are? Lol. I love half the games they hate and hate half the games they love I simply Appreciate them taking time/effort to show us what it is. I am my own judge (second to my wife) and give to Craps! If they Love or Hate anything. Why would you? How many hours (minutes) do you sacrifice from your time and your families time to return contribute Back to this hobby??? Bitching doesn’t count! I would also bet you any amount they got paid NOTHING to show this product. Such a tough crowd I Honestly have no idea why Zach/Greg or Any of the content providers bother???

Haven't revisited this thread in awhile and while you have the typical throw away replies from folks like chooch (which his own name speaks for itself, talk about embarrassing) or others that will drink the kool aid at all costs, I'll use the one above to clarify something.

I would NEVER take their word and blindly buy something based on a video alone so Yelobird - I'm not expecting their videos to move me one way or the other. I'm still here in this thread b/c I want to feel that old SDTM magic and at times, the new videos really do bring me back. Same reason I'll try to listen to the pinball podcast, which Dennis balances well - but ultimately I appreciate Zach and Gregs effort and time which is reflected in my podcast download or youtube view (which is VERY important to Zach). That being said, this notion that every comment regarding their content should be positive b/c they spend time doing this is complete bullshit. Good will come the bad if deserved. I don't sugar coat anything - in fact you can say you're always going to get SDTM from as well. Simple as that. At the same time, that's why you also know it's genuine.

On a side note, I've never left a negative comment on youtube or review on their podcast b/c I know how important those platforms are to them and how easy it is to hurt their ultimate cause. I don't go to many pinball shows but I've said before that if I did and Zach and/or Greg were there I would intentionally look out for them and buy drinks. The good very much outweighs my criticism and I know they're good guys and talented.

Cheers

Haha. I was actually thinking this same thing right after we taped it. I think I'm going to add either another keylight or an additional background light.

Incredible NEW Video By SDTM’s Cary Hardy

We wanted to take a second to thank Cary for this type of work. As if installing and repairing machines isn’t time-consuming enough, this Pinball Ambassador is substantially adding to that time and cost to exceptionally capture the process for us in this hobby to learn from and to enjoy for years to come. This is a prime example of why this community is so great and why someone such as Cary is moving it forward. Excellent work Cary and from everyone, Thank You! Take a sec today and reach out to Cary.

Curious why the shooter lane work wasn't mentioned in the video? It is a different process than the rest of the PF prep.

This shooter lane was in pretty good shape to begin with. There are many methods in repairing/restoring a shooter lane, but for this playfield I only needed to do a little sanding and cleaning out the dirt. A typical method is to wrap sand paper around a cylindric object (empty toilet paper roll) and run it up and down the shooter lane cavity.

Sure. I have completed a hardtop install on my HS. Most common method for the shooter lane is to clean, sand and then Urethane to protect and to bring color back to the bare wood. Your video was well done and thorough. It stood out to me that this unique step wasn't mentioned.

Huh?? You told me You did all the filming and editing Mr Bone? You said Zach simply sat there and ate his Chicago hot dogs with ketchup while you worked the keyboard.

#5292 3 years ago

Well done fellas. I literally said holy shit when the music dropped and the light show exploded. Take my money jjp.

Hopefully b roll gameplay footage is next.

Great job on the video!

Awesome video Zach & Greg.....the Live and Let Die light show was a definite WOW! moment!

This is the great SDTM stuff that has been scarce lately.......and thank God JJP didn't let that goat into the factory!!!

#5295 3 years ago

I think my favorite moment was when it showed off how the lights lined up with the spinning record while Eric talked about how excited he was about it, really making next level use of the leds in this one! Great video, keep up the amazing content!

Other manufacturers should take note. THIS is how you announce a new machine. I like GnR as much as the next guy, but not a super fan. But, this looks so good I'm considering robbing a local bank to get one.

I completely agree. It was a fantastic role out!

#5298 3 years ago

Thanks for the kind words everyone. Greg and I really enjoy that type of work and that’s our vision of a pinball reveal. It kinda helps a ton when you have that game to work with, coordination and planning from Ken Cromwell, and an excited Eric, Keith, and Joe. Excited to get one, crank it up, and dig deep into the code.

#5299 3 years ago

As everybody else's said , great job on the reveal , you guys are getting really good at this .
I think Keith would make a good co-host when Greg is unavailable .

#5300 3 years ago

Hey all I just wanted to chime in and let you know how much I enjoyed your GNR video. It was really done well and I enjoyed it so much I think I watched it about 3 times. The passion that went into the build put a smile on my face, and was very intriguing to watch. Keep up the great work!
