Quoted from Wamprat:

I heard a rumor that JPOP is working on this game

Will the game have Jpop bumpers that take your money?

Ok, that was lame

#1102 4 years ago
Quoted from KenLayton:

Jersey Jack, Heighway, Spooky, etc did not feel the need to manufacture everything in China. They used domestically available parts and labor to build their machines.
Why did HomePin decide to move all operations and production to China? He's depriving local Australian workers of jobs within Australia of building the machines.

Making games in Australia,
He would still need to import parts
It would cost more to hire people to build the game

Seems obvious to me. He's trying a different business model that will ultimately allow the games to be built much more cheaply with a lower overhead. Not just when it comes to labour but also the overall supply chain. A heck of a lot more work and bigger setup costs but ultimately it could pay off hugely in the long run.

Homepin might start supplying Stern with parts

Who all demand $80/hr to get out of bed in the afternoon.

yep its more like $79. anyone who has actually hired Australian workers know exactly why he went to china.

What rubbish. By that logic, there would be no businesses in Australia as they would all be in China.

you missed the a couple words but you are correct ... "there would be no (manufacturing) businesses (left) in Australia as they would all be in China.

As someone who works in a USA office of an Australian (HQ in Melbourne) company, I am getting a kick out of these replies.

Just filtered this thread by Homepin - jeez it's funny reading his dummy spits from 2 years ago. One gem below, many many more if you do the search. I wonder if his attitude to the Yanks will soften once he realises the market outside the US is two-fifths of f-all given what the FX rates have done.

Quoted from Homepin:

I have almost decided that I will not make this machine available to the USA market. I may not even include an option for 110V.
The USA was never an intended market. There are 200 other countries..............
Have fun in the USA living in your sheltered world.
I'm busy now - taking the "post to the USA" option off my website for boards I make because I don't think I will sell them to anyone in the US anymore - ByeBye.
Yes, I am taking my bat and ball and going home (if any of you actually understand that).

What would you have to pay a skilled factory worker in Sydney now?

One of my mates used to import furniture into Sydney (ironically from Shanghai) ... The Samoan dudes unloading the containers were on $27 AUD an hour (and that was about 5 years ago...) That's more than I've ever made and I used to employ 30 people lol!!

might of gone up a little but the $80 hr is a rate of very upper management in the manufacturing industry.

$30-45 per hour + super (9.5%) is the going rate for a skilled & educated specialist in manufacturing unskilled labourer is $22.50 to $30 per hr. but then businesses look at the costs of insurances (workers comp and all business running costs and determine an average hourly rate of $65 per hr on average to cover the cost of the business but not the pay going to the worker)

- but to call in a plumber / builder to build a extension at your house for example etc the going rate is $80-90 per hour but not the manufacturing field.

Australia is like the inverse of Canada as far as personalities go. Homepin guy may not have to deal with the outside world much and think he can act like that and people will still buy, or really is that short sited about markets. It's too bad.

That's quite a generalisation! Did you know that we all eat vegemite, say "Giday Mate" and subscribe to the motto of "No Worries"?

As far as Homepin guy goes, he's silly enough to feed the trolls and fire up, but I still hope he brings cheaper pinballs to the market and would have no problems with buying a pinball from him. I would like to see more competition.

You forgot all those "shrimp on the barbies" you eat every day too.

#1124 4 years ago

I've got myself a Thunderbirds slot machine. I'd love a Thunderbirds pinball machine to complement it!

#1125 4 years ago

I've worked for a Aussie company for the last 2 years, I have spent 2 months of those two in Australia, I Skype and have to have teleconferences every single day with Australians in Australia. Granted, I'm only dealing with Melbourne.. So maybe other parts are different.

So yes, its a generalization and yes there are plenty that are nice, that will give you the shirt off their back.. Some of the nicest people as well.

I guess what I was saying is those statements do not feel personally as out of place coming from an Australian than it would a Canadian He would fit in fine here in New Jersey or NYC as well, just different accent.

Anyone else I forgot to offend?

Quoted from Nelly:

lol, yes people think that, but I think I have only done that once or twice ever, snags & steaks is the most popular thing on the barbie, lol

as for personalities there is a growing trend of people becoming more arrogant due to over confidence in their field. Being an aussie I get embarrassed for the majority of aussies that are good all round people and are so different to the out spoken ones. Mike made some comments that were not nice and not smart considering the US is most probably the biggest pinball market in the world.

#1128 4 years ago

I am a massive fan. often get in these UK slot machines that sell for around $300 each. hoping this machine is ready soon but we always get ripped off so badly in the UK it might be far too expensive

what kind of people are we if we cant forgive a bloke for an indiscretion? What hes doing is harder that it looks, hes made mistakes but hes learned from them and things are looking up.. banging on about it would make us as bad as the trend of smarmy detestable little know-alls that you mentioned.

What a load of bollocks. Mike is a know all arrogant SOB. He doesn't learn from his 'mistakes' as you call them. He has zero people skills and stirs the pot at almost every opportunity.

Your on AA, you know it's true.

Quoted from pauloz:

He also offers a lot of support to AA members......but I forgot you just want to bitch about his 'people skills', which we all know and it has been repeated hundreds of times already. Once your able to look past that you see a different person. Someone who is trying to start up a new pinball company, a Hugh undertaking.
It's easy to throw shit from behind a keyboard. Keep it positive you can't change personalities but you can be accepting of them.

Yes he tries to be helpful but in the process he pisses people off. See his rant where he spat the dummy about a week ago.

Don't get me wrong, I would love to see another pinball manufacture on the scene as it can only be a good thing for pinball, but please don't kid yourself, he is the one who should not be allowed behind a keyboard.

#1135 4 years ago
Quoted from pauloz:

Your on AA, you know it's true.

"you're" on aa also .. and frankly i dont believe you have any chance of influencing my opinion so best just get on with your life.

There are many detestable little tardwits who thrive on butthurt and tall poppy bashing in Australia ( and sheepshagger country too it seems) and as far as im concerened all of them belong in the "smarmy little know-alls" category.. Join whichever queue you like. Its never too late.

#1136 4 years ago
Quoted from pauloz:

see that was quick .. now we agree.

If he worked for me .. he wouldnt even be allowed to have an outside phoneline. But i would trust him to run entire engineering projects. Hes not a people person .. Hes a cranky prick like me.. But we're the ones who do the actual work when the meeting attendants have all gone home at 3pm. The world needs cranky techs. stop trying to put him in the PR dept round peg square hole and support him to do what he does best.

I doubt it very much. He is still making the bolts.

#1141 4 years ago

have either of you actually ORDERED the machine?

#1142 4 years ago
Quoted from wiredoug:

Original pre-order but got a refund due to crap customer service and a lack of faith in the pre order model in general.
I may not like mike but I like pinball and the theme so naturally I am keen to see it. I may buy it if and when it is in Aus distributor hands to sell and I have played it and liked it.

#1143 4 years ago

Mike's ability to communicate in a sensible and reasonable manner via the internet has almost nothing to do with his ability to deliver a pinball machine. That said I wouldn't put him in charge of my PR either

We'll see it when we see it. If we don't then you can pile on all you like.

#1144 4 years ago
Quoted from Wamprat:

Original pre-order but got a refund .

If you got that refund when you asked, then he did the right thing by you...
do you reckon to still keep hanging it on him is the decent thing to do? he didnt wrong you. you got your money. walk away and come back when its done.

Keep hanging on him, I don't believe I am doing any such thing. If I was hanging on him as you say I would have been banned ages ago.
But to keep this in perspective, it's a pre-order, it's release date has come and gone, there is no game released and the company is accountable. It's no different to JJP, DP, Heighway or whoever, they are all in the same boat imo. Pinball sites like Pinside aa or any other pinball site will speculate and pass opinions about it, that's what goes on.
Lets hope it's killer when it gets here but until then there will continue to be talk.

thanks pete. try the pies we're here all week

#1148 4 years ago

Reasonable opinion but we dont quite agree.. I really only think hes accountable to people with money on the table. I think hes done the right thing by you and in your case the file is closed.

This generic pinball customer sense of entitlement to be 'owed' something by vendors drives me mad.. you arent owed anything you havent put money down on. if tomorrow he says "screw it im buying a pub" and pays everyone back ...that should be the end of it.

no money on the table .. no right to bang your fist on it .. thats my view.

BS. So the only people who have the right to an opinion are those who have already bought. No regard for potential customers is a recipe for didsaster.
