If you're going to develop something to interface to the GI I would go with an opto-isolator rather than a relay.

The downside is if the game uses GI dimming the led's will flicker when dimmed and for those who are sensitive to flickering they will actually always be flickering once GI is used as the control circuit. It would take additional circuitry to solve those issues (something like herg's GI OCD)
For those of us who aren't into colored GI can you post some before and after photos without the RGB led's being used.
