    Quoted from blondetall:

Moderators are not allowed to sleep. You must be here 24/7.

I can think of a few members here who would qualify if that were the only qualification.

    #54 9 years ago
    Quoted from Pinfidel:

    Couldn't agree more.
You'll get a thousand head cases who'd love having the "Mod Power". But the best people for moderators will be found amongst what you and your existing mods already know and have seen from fellow members.
Some words to live by, when at all possible...Go by what people DO, not by what they SAY.
A persons actions speak far louder than his words ever will. So go by what you know and have seen of members already, not by what they will say about themselves in an e-mail. Good luck.

Well put too. As mentioned above by someone - it is a thankless job. I'm an OP on a minecraft server and you really get a lot people whinning and wanting to be OPs lol. It is the equivilant to a MOD on a forum essentially.

    Quoted from Flavours:

Some tips on looking for a new mod!
Make sure they are not a Boomer!
Make sure they are not from a small town somewhere in the midwest!
Make sure they do not attend church!
Make sure they are not part of the Political correctness brigade!
Make sure they attend pinball events!
Follow those tips and your new mod will be cool!
You really do not want a mod who is Lock and Ban happy and Censors and enforces rules based on there own conservative morals!!
Usually new mods get carried away with there new powers and go a little bit crazy.lol

And no duplicate ID checking! Our poor Flavours doesn't like anyone duplicate ID checking

BTW75 has forum moderation experience..... just sayin'

I'd be a fucking perfect moderator.

    #58 9 years ago

    I once moderated a forum

    The death threats were fun

Would put my hand up but I hate working on my phone

    #59 9 years ago

New as in "replacements" or "additional"?

    #60 9 years ago
    Quoted from PopBumperPete:

ban votes didn't cut it eh?

Edit: That was meant to read as you making the death threats instead of giving ban votes, humour....wish I had some

    #61 9 years ago
    Quoted from Sly_Old_Devil:

ban votes didn't cut it eh?

No, but I did learn that itwas simpler to lock a thread that had gone feral rather than try to moderate it back into line

Keyboard ccommandos have no interest in being reasonable

    #62 9 years ago

Thanks for all the crazy and funny comments. And for posting concerns too. I fully realize that it might not be a good idea to have an open solicitation round for this. But I figured I could give it a try.

You see, in the past finding moderators was a tedious task, involving many late nights slaving away at the computer, browsing the forums, investigating, taking notes, lots of coffee... Not anymore! I can now simply add about 30 new moderators and lean back and enjoy a perfectly running site. Right? Riiiiight.

I wish running a forum was that simple, but at least I have a starting point. I will read all applications, browse their posting history a bit and choose (hopefully) the right Pinsiders for the job. I'm also trying to find people who will be a good addition to the existing team.

So thanks again for all applications, still gonna be a lot of work

    #63 9 years ago

I would apply, but I'm afraid my "moderator congrats party" thread would eclipse blondetall's..........

    #64 9 years ago
    Quoted from robin:

Have you been a Pinside member for at least a year? Do you have a clean track record for being a nice, calm, levelheaded guy or girl with common sense? Are you honest, fair, precise and do you always try to treat everyone respectfully? Are you considerate, knowledgeable, handy with your web browser? Do you have good grammar, spelling and syntax skills? Do you have the right personality? Can you take some verbal abuse? Are you even tempered, likeable, and fair minded? Do you have the time to commit to being a moderator? DO YOU LOVE PINBALL?
    .

    Quoted from Flavours:

Make sure they are not from a small town somewhere in the midwest!
Make sure they do not attend church!
Make sure they are not part of the Political correctness brigade!

Man, I am sooo close on this

    #65 9 years ago

Just sayin: New mod should be someone very knowledgeable who is outside peak North American timezone. When I get in one of those moods to work on pinballs at 3am and am also in a sleep lacking walking coma, I tend to break things. I need someone to slap me around a bit and tell me what I screwed up!

    #66 9 years ago

Lol, I saw and thought well my job has enough free time for this. Then I thought about all my posts and realized I would probably ban myself faster than other mods have. Self fired before day one : (

    #67 9 years ago

I have a feeling your applicants are going to look something like the ones on "Shark Tank."

Hey now. There is no thread equal to my mod party thread. We had to close it down to protect the server from crashing and to keeping this forum alive.

i think that the job of "moderator" around here is to keep people in line, not to serve as 24/7 tech support specialists... not that it would hurt to have tech skills (and most of the mods do), but the tech support (free, no less!) is up to the forum members...

look at it this way, you wouldn't have to suffer with the job for long...

I would like to nominate Neo as moderator for a sale threads. If he does no like the price then he will take care of it.

The results will be very entertaining.

Fair point. Gigilos are typically busier in the summer months.

I'd end up barricading myself in a tower with a high power rifle.

    #74 9 years ago

I just need to be a mod for like 5 or 10 minutes to fix a few things

    #75 9 years ago

well, heck, we gotta have teekee too....

    can mods ban each other?

    #78 9 years ago

On a serious note, moderating is a thankless job.

Thanks all you mods for moderating the madness.

(see what I did there? )

If we don't already have candidates in mind for the the Ars forums, including asking the existing mod team if they have preferences, then our system is to open it up for nominations. You cannot nominate yourself. We have more luck with asking the community to put forth names to consider.

Not anymore. We fixed that shortly after I was retired that one fun day.

I was wondering why he wasn't around last weekend.

I nominate Aurich for Moderator... He is often a voice of reason here and an asset to this small community IMHO

Thanks but Robin and I decided a while ago that it was probably too much of a conflict of interest to have me mod while also selling things in the forum, and I'm having too much fun with my translite projects to give them up.

    #84 9 years ago

No modhood for Aurich til he makes a BSD translite!

    ah yes... your little buddy...

    #86 9 years ago

    Future moderator applicants take note.

    Quoted from robin:

Please don't post your application/candidacy in this forum topic. Only via PM please.

    #87 9 years ago

Give all moderators a two year term there will always be new blood good or bad.

    #88 9 years ago
    Quoted from tamoore:

    First rule of online forums:
If you really want to be a forum moderator, you probably shouldn't be allowed to be a forum moderator.

So true!! It's kind of true for most political positions as well.

I heard a rumour about that day! You nearly had a full mental breakdown at the thought of your account being permanently gone!
You begged for answers! Funny how pathetic people get when they lose there power! Only to get cocky again when it was restored!
    Isnt that right Blondetall!?

    #90 9 years ago

I am into self moderation and I don't have enough time for that.

    #91 9 years ago

Moderators. Please feel free to nuke SimpleJack.

    Quoted from Mr68:

    Kim

They will. But it appears that he will keep showing up with a different account.

    #93 9 years ago
    Quoted from jayhawkai:

    I nominate rotordave!

Thanks for the nomination! I am humbled.

Unfortunately I don't think I can do the job ... My Pinside participation is dependant on whatever job I'm doing at the time. Sometimes I log on quite a lot ... Sometimes only once a day. All depends.

So I'm not on here long enough to be a mod.

But I'm happy to keep making inappropriate jokes and comments wherever required.

Quoted for posterity. All people interested in being a mod please take note that you get to deal with fun people like this.

Yes dear, I am sure you heard rumors because you started them. Only since you didnt know me at the time you made a fool out of yourself calling me a man. I already tracked your other account and was just waiting for this one to show up too. Despite telling Robin you would stay away, you just keep showing up, and we just keep sending proof to the authorities. You're like a serial killer who just cant shut up and has to out himself and brag about it.

    #95 9 years ago

Also, that pic isnt even of me, but good to know you are stalking all my posts. I will be sure to add that information to the reports.
