Slick unit. Any photos of the back? Curious what it looks like and how things are connected.

Great mod well done Compy I think one of the best yet

Quoted from TheRudyB:

I think you meant "Eew" if not "Eeeeeew" ... especially if taking about porn. (Even more )

Well, ewe is a sheep so I could just be into really kinky porn.

Good morning all,
I've spent the last few hours responding to emails, PMs and answering questions and I promise I'll get to all of you. The count right now is actually not even just one batch, but three batches in the first 24 hours so I'll tell you what I'm going to do:

I'm going to ship the first 20 in the next 2.5-3 weeks when parts arrive and assembly begins. Those who have expressed interest and received confirmation will be contacted and we'll arrange the details.
I'm going to go ahead NOW and order parts for another couple batches so that they get here in pretty close proximity to the other batch going out
I'm going to get the first 20 into the hands of customers. I need to make sure everything arrives and installs with relatively low friction so that everyone feels like a rockstar through this experience. Once everyone feels good, we'll proceed to the remaining batches and general availability.

This morning I'm working on getting the rest of the responses to interested parties out, and then getting our final controller PCB design fabbed and ready for you.
Now, regarding the demand for Creech. Lots of people have asked for the window mod. I know MikeD did it back in the day, then a few others have attempted so far. I'm getting a better idea of where the snags were, and I offer the following:

After the TZ run is well underway, I'm happy to either work with the creators of that mod to get it into the marketplace utilizing our control system with no delays or problems.
If that can't or won't work, I'm happy to make something utilizing artwork that does not cause issue with Universal Pictures or Planetary Pinball. I've worked on teams that have licensed content through PPS, so there are avenues to make that happen.

As with all of our products, there will be the ability to customize the content to your liking. I know there are some animators and videographers out there with some chops. Obviously if you want to contribute, feel free to reach out and we can make it mutually beneficial a-la ColorDMD. Just understand my plan for that is out several weeks at least so I can get everyone what they ordered.
Happy to have everyone on board, and I'm even happier to make some cool stuff with you all! This and the future game list is exciting!
-- Jimmy

This is an incredibly well thought out response, coming from someone who has clearly been in software for quite a while. lol!

How are you determing the game state?

In post 20 he stated "Plug the controller card we ship with the unit into the sound board in the backbox" so I assume he's monitoring the address lines of the sound calls.

#106 3 years ago

SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!

Seriously where do I sign.

#107 3 years ago

If this uses sound callouts does it also work with Pinsound boards?

great question

Just found this thread...staggering!!! I'm in..

Perfect game for this...pm sent...

Quoted from underlord:

We’re thinking yes - the pinsound board uses the same cable from the MPU, so this is just another connection

#111 3 years ago

Very cool! I would like to get in on the... sounds like 3rd or 4th batch at this point!

Really nice to see the classic games not be neglected for things like this. Your efforts are greatly appreciated!

#112 3 years ago

I can imagine WMS IJ with this. Wow.

#113 3 years ago

Looks amazing, I don't have TZ or any of the games being worked on
This would be awesome in a T2, lots of great stuff that could be added to that. There is also plenty of open space back there.

#114 3 years ago

Amazing, I'm already thinking of the followup - oled side-blade displays ? Imagine the whole sides being lit up like that...............

Yep I was thinking the same, the T2 has a huge following, a very visible backboard and this would really spice it up

Not a bad idea, but I would be shocked if he could make the displays thin enough so that the Playfield wouldn’t scratch them. It was nearly impossible to put mirror blades in my STTNG without scratching them, so I don’t think I screen could work.

Great idea in theory, but in practice I think the cost associated with an LCD panel of that form factor combined with the fact that you'd have to recess it into the cabinet pretty much makes that one a no-go at this point in time. However displays are getting better and better, and I know our friends at PinGraffix and others are doing some really interesting things with EL paper and such. They might have something for you in their pipeline.

Boom, it's on the list. I actually have a special idea for this game... I think it'll blow you away. I'll put out a poll with the rest of the games and see if we can determine a priority based on demand.

Love the talk and ideas!

At some point it isn't unreasonable to start thinking about extruded aluminum as a potential material for making cabinets. It's WAY lighter than wood (could be a pro or a con depending on if you're in the middle of moving a game or playing it...), and can easily be recessed. Not practical for retrofitting an existing game obviously, but I wonder why Stern hasn't done this

IMHO, it wouldn't feel like a pin. A pin needs to feel substantial and have a presence when you play it, nudge it, lean on it..

Demand for T2 is about to go up. Buy one before the price gets even further out of reach.

#121 3 years ago

Can we see some photos of the hardware? I love seeing the techy parts of these mods is it a raspberry pi or some other embedded pc? Or maybe some totally custom pcb?

How does it detect the modes? Some one mentioned using the audio data bus?

Also that monitor looks like a DMD ratio? Never seen that before, surprised colorDMD don’t use something similar?

#122 3 years ago

It looks killer and I would love one for my TZ. Please add me to the list.

I recall seeing Homepin prototype several years ago using EL paper for a lightning strike that was cool, that got me thinking ... MM would be great with your controller with EL blades and backboard doing lightning strikes!!!

The possibilities are boundless ...

What?? We have to wait?? Nah, we want them all and we want them now!! Haha Looking forward to seeing you ideas on T2 (and STTNG)

Thanks Jimmy - this has got my vote for the best mod of 2020

#124 3 years ago

Hey Jimmy, I’m down for a T2 also!

#125 3 years ago

I love the idea of having custom videos on a backboard display! Count me in!

One of the best features of pinsound systems is to be able to put several sound files in a single sound event-directory and software picks a random file of these available ones. That brings a lot of variety into my machines. (My HS2 pin is like our jukebox with currently more than 80 different songs in it)
So would be nice to be able to have more video-files for single sound-events.

#126 3 years ago

This looks great and will be the icing on the cake for my machine, probably the best mod I have seen.
I’m hoping it works with Pinsound installed.
Fingers crossed I’m on the list

I’ll take my chances for now. I consider my wallet warned.

T2 has a long history and I was there playing them new in arcades. Awesome back then. If ruleset can be updated, then yes, that game would skyrocket.

Gotcha covered! I'll also shoot you a PM response with some answers to your questions! Yeah, we do support multiple file entries for a given event, and the system will select randomly.

Heya! Got your message on PinballInfo as well, I've gotcha covered! Also, this does work with PinSound installed! (I'll even order a few for my games to test and video).

Quoted from DugFreez:

Bhahahah, I was really hoping someone would catch the easter egg . If you look closely, there are some other fun ones.

I'm replying to all PMs/emails with answers to questions, so if you haven't heard from me yet, expect that here shortly!

Today's agenda:
- Final rev controller board design finished, get that reviewed and out to fab.
- Squashing some software bugs... I noticed that two modes I programmed don't end when the mode actually does. It's a stupid error, it always is.
- Get the CNC cooking! Lot's of boards need to be routed, though the noise is somewhat therapeutic.
- Tonight, I'll record some more video from the player's perspective, glass on, translite in, all buttoned up. I've had the game apart the last couple days for doing work/testing.

This is fucken awesome .
Congratulations on doing such a great job , definitely got my vote for mod of the year .
I would love to see and definitely would buy one for fish tales .
The cartoony artwork would be perfect for animations .
Would it be tricky to incorporate the L.I.E and video mode icons .
PS . There are a lot of passionate fish tales owners out there .

#133 3 years ago

Will you be adding more video to this? I would love to see videos like the guy has for the creech mod

#134 3 years ago

I'll eventually get one of these, and when I do, I'm going to have to scour my TZ dvd's for video clips to play on all the modes.... I'd prefer a constant stream of TZ show footage for events in the game that match.

So much better than the little tv mod that plays video.... it'd really set the mood.

Definitely around 3rd run timeframe I'm so in.

#135 3 years ago
Quoted from zr11990:

Yeah, the videos aren't done, so good question! I'm just striking a balance between getting content in there for each mode that I like in my game and actually getting the product out so I can solve the undoubted slew of bugs that will ensue.

I'd love to license the creech videos from PinballSP, but I think he's intent on doing everything himself. I know that if I hired him for this, it'd only delay things on that project more.

Thank you for the kind words! We have to ship first and make sure everything works well before anyone can pin a badge on this thing for anything. . However that is very very motivating sentiment.

Regarding FT - It's definitely one that I'd love to have in the gameroom. It's so gnarly and fun. I just have to talk to Mark to make sure he wouldn't murder me for putting it on his game!

Yeah, it's definitely a balancing act here. Some people only want it to play at certain times (I tend to be in that camp), but I also know that people love a continuous stream of content, and of course even better that it's interactive based on what's happening in the game. The important bit is that I at least empower people to have the ability to stream as much content as they want.

Guess I have no choice.... please count me in.... Etienne

I'm interested in 1x kit

You make an IJ, DM or JD, that’ll rock. I own a TZ and this looks great, but needs polish. When done I’ll buy one too.

No worries, this is all very early. What you're seeing is only about 7 weeks into the design cycle. I've got the hardware core working, the software is doing its thing, and now I'm surveying manufacturability to get the baseline technology out there.

From there, everything else is field upgradeable, though I do want initial units to ship with as much "splash" as possible, so I'm constantly seeing about adding content that I or others create.

Thanks for the feedback!

Looks awesome!! Now to get your eddy sensor fixed so it knows when you actually have a powerball.

7 weeks into the design cycle! We've been watching PinballPT for nearly 4 years and he's not near what you've done in 7 weeks. I hope to God he is watching this thread. I don't own a TZ, but if this comes available for any of my games, I'm a customer. A dark horse candidate - Last Action Hero. With all those action clips from the movie and Arnold in full ham-it-up mode, it seems like a good pairing.

Haha, I knew SOMEONE would pick it out! I intentionally turned off the eddy in that video so that it'd trigger the powerball sequence. I got shafted by someone selling a powerball on ebay and this one is just ferrous enough to trick it so it never sees the true powerball.

Looks like PBL has them though!

EDIT: Yep I have one. I'll get your info via PM and can send it out.

I would agree it would be nice but I would think the playfield sag in the back right corner of these games would make it a nightmare to get them to fit correctly over different machines.
