Im prepping to do a Mirco TOM...any tips?

#7 8 days ago

I'm curious to hear feedback from anyone who has swapped an original pf for a Mirco.

Do you find the game feels/plays different?

The ceramic clear definitely feels different to the touch, so wondering how you guys think it compares when playing.

#8 8 days ago

I will know sooon sure is pretty

#9 8 days ago

Lots of pics then more pics zoomed in and out clear ones too strip top keep separate mark and label all screw holes on old playfield with arrows pointing to them it will be your road map.power ,switches ,gi harness in order then all the hardware goodies gets switched over directly and cleaned then reverse and for god sakes relax don’t look forward to far focus on one section at a time.oh and clear lots of room there will be crap everywhere organizing is key

Night and day difference! Sometimes I think it's too fast!

Did you wax before playing or good to go?

#21 8 days ago

The playfield not your goods

#22 8 days ago

Doing the same swap with the same playfield on the same game at the moment. Agreed, Mirco playfields are really very well done. I'm impressed.

Quoted from Snowyetti:

I always put on 2 coats of wax before install.

#24 8 days ago

Beautiful. I just completed mine a few months back.

I did not bother to wax (mine will just not get THAT much play) but I was pretty liberal with the low-tac mylar in the pops, outside the scoop and the drop under the steps ramp.

The tricky parts for me:

The routed rectangle where the steps ramp starts, I had to route it down more for my repro ramp to sit flush.

The holes for the wire guides in the lanes, I had to open them up which scared the crap out of me, haha (but ultimately went fine)

There were a few missing holes (or ones I had to open up) but overall those were minor for me.

In the end, its just jaw dropping. It's like playing a brand new game (and I guess it really is at this point)

I think I prefer factory original playfields. The Mirco ones look great with all that shiny goodness, but I'm not convinced I like how they play.

I'm also concerned about the quality of them. If anyone has seen a Dialed In that did not have Cliffys on it, chances are the pf is getting beat up pretty back. I've probably played 5 Dialed Ins, and 3 of them were not protected. All 3 of those games had very noticeable wear.

They just don't make them like they used to

#26 8 days ago

well i definitely didn't like how the og playfield in this dirty sucker played;] and Ive had an original that was in good shape before it played ok but this is a freaking masterpiece of shiny I said good day sir

its not getting routed lol

Mirco offers different grades of playfields. I don't know for sure, but I don't think Dialed In had the ceramic clear. JJP did not buy their "best" level AFAIK. Dialed In had terrible durability in the impact areas.

How small is a micro playfield?

I’m actually just getting to this and, likewise, a little nervous. Remember what bit you used and any pointers for a clean opening up?

You def need a dremel and this kit: amazon.com link »

I don't recall which bit (and even if I did, I wouldnt go off that) just size a bit that is just a little bit smaller than the gauge of the wire (since it is a press fit)

I used a thin cone shaped bit on my dremel to clear off the "clear" I was about to drill through (to minimize the chances of cracking/separation). Just be careful to not clear away too much. I would do a little at a time, and then hold the wire up to it to see how much more I needed to do. Then I drilled the hole wider (vacuumed out any debris) and carefully pressed them in.

Yes, buy Ron Kruzman’s installation kit. He packs all the bits needed to router out the clearcoat where needed. Makes installing much easier.

If it’s reasonable, I’d buy it. A friend of mine always wanted a funhouse. I’d tell him I got him one for Xmas and hand him that lol. He’d still love it. But couldn’t be into it for too much.

This comment is not correct. There were very few out of one run which had a material issue. I did replace all of them for free if somebody informed me. With several production runs total there could always happen something once. To say they were all bad does not point you into a good light as that is something you cannot know or even guess.

All which I have available today use same materials we use for thousands of playfields a year and are approved and work well.

If there was a problem in the past and I was informed I did always take care of it.

You should keep useless comments like this for yourself.

Mirco
