It's interesting as last I heard they weren't going to announce their next game until like August or something
They show a quick snippet of all their previous playfields then a question mark... would seem to imply a new game but it could just be a feature addition I guess
Normally wouldn't be super interested in GnR but if it's Eric's design, that would definitely change things for me.
Quoted from chet218:Anyone know the time frame of this announcement?
I would guess soon-ish, like the next week or so? It’s not like there are any shows to wait for and I don’t think they would drop this teaser and then stay quite for a month or 2
Quoted from DylanFan71:About time to announce a 2021 game.
That's a fair point (criticism). I wonder if Stern is going to push them to announce earlier than they wanted to. I think they wanted to wait until games were already rolling off the line to announce their next game. Would they fall into the trap of announcing a game 3-4 months before they can build it?
Quoted from Crile1:I have to think that 90% of people could care less about these things. I know I have no interest in online leaderboards or head to head play with someone I don't know. I play the machine. Now, with something like Cosmic Cart Racing, I can understand why you would want to play head to head. It would be like online racing or online shooter games. But Cosmic Cart was designed with this in mind and until recently was horrible to play alone. The only benefit I would get from online connectivity is wifi updating. But, honestly, I would not waste the money on buying a dongle for my 4 JJP games just for that. USB still works.
I agree, WiFi updating is nice and all but it seems like something that should already be there and not a feature you would tout as a huge innovation. Most people might update code on a machine 2-3 times max? I don't even remember when the last code update for POTC came out but it has to have been over a year ago. After the first year a games been out and you might not even update the code on the machine ever again.
Really could care less about wifi, bluetooth, playing with your phone, playing online, taking your picture or any other of that stuff. How about just a packed, un-neutered game with tons of new and interesting "mechanical" features. Things that actually "interact" with the pinball, not a bunch of shit that doesn't. If anyone at JJP can deliver that it's Eric. Super interested to see what he delivers.
Quoted from Wolfmarsh:What do you mean? I thought he said the reason it wasn't included in the game was because they couldn't solve the engineering issues?
Supposedly Pat Lawlor nuked the spinning discs not Eric... Speculation is that Eric could have gotten the mech to work fine but Pat was jealous? of how packed POTC was. Take it with a grain of salt
Quoted from Tranquilize:Without real evidence, you really shouldn't continue to spread a rumour that attacks Pat Lawlor's credibility. He's one of the gods of pinball design and would have no reason to be jealous of anyone. He created TZ and TAF ffs.
Seriously? What does the fact that he made TZ and TAF have anything to do with if he experiences the human emotion of jealously? I have no idea if the rumor is true and never stated it as fact. I'm apparently not nearly as in love with him enough though to believe that being a "pinball god" (whatever that even means) makes him impervious to basic human emotions.
Quoted from delt31:I don’t get caught up in the kaneda pinball drama of people and how they’re being treated. Who knows what’s true and honestly who the F cares. This is a pinball forum, not a day time soap.
I judge lawlor on what I know and that’s the pinballs my hands actually play not the drama I’m being told about 4th hand. Do you know why? B/c I know that to be the truth b/c I’m the judge - not a 4th handed story.
Based on that alone, Lawlor absolutely kills it for my taste and I’ve classified him as a pinball god. ES, WW, TAF, TZ, DI - list goes on and on. Eric has one really really good game. I like him a lot too but just b/c the newest thing in the market is doing well doesn’t mean I classify him as the best.
It’s that type of mentality that had Kaneda on his ass after blowing out Wonka. Keep it real.
Hey that's cool, we all have our own tastes. Having owned both of Lawlor's JJP pins, for myself, I'd take Eric's game or any of Keith Elwin's games any day of the week but that's just me.
Quoted from metallik:Ehh, not so much anymore. Wonka brought nothing new to the table. Their in-game camera was innovative when it came out and Keith has cranked out some really cool rules and software, but look at the last couple games: Pirates got cost-reduced into mediocrity and Wonka is also pretty vanilla (but it does shoot well).
Also, innovation is good but Elwin's JP proves you can put together a great playing game without flashy new toys or technology.
Looking forward to whatever JJP comes out with.. competition is always good.
Ummm, the T-Rex mech on the JP Premium and LE is probably the coolest, "flashiest" toy on a Stern in a long time and POTC is the most packed game in a long time even with the things they removed.
