Perhaps he is doing a Star Trek + cash trade for a Hobbit LE spot? (just kidding)

Good or bad, one thing is for sure - like WOZ, it certainly isn't anything like a Stern game (and yes I like Stern games too).

Now that Smaug seems to be for the most part complete (minus a few touch ups, and perhaps diverter sculpt) - my attention is on the LCD. Do you guys like the idea, or wanted something different? And in what ways can the LCD concept be improved?

How come JJP gets a pass when it photoshops its playfeild but not stern?

TRON is photoshoped too and I think it looks fantastic.

Matt said the frame is not final.

Good point though Rarehero, care needs to be taken to avoid that inset feel to the frame.

Here is a thought - now that Smaug doesn't turn all the way around from behind a mountain wouldn't it make more sense if he ISN'T tethered to the gold pile at all? I think the motion would look a lot more fluid and aesthetically awesome. You wouldn't have to add more the head sculpt, just have Smaug move side to side above the treasure. I feel sure it would look much better, and he won't look pined to the gold pile.

EDIT: This would also allow you to make the gold pile look a bit nicer since you wont have to have it ramp up to Smaugs head.

Quoted from RealityCheck:

While this is a very good idea to separate the gold pile from his head, is this really what his head will do in the final code? Just turn sideways? If he can rotate 180 degrees then why not just fix the backside and make it look more like a realistic mountain? Possibly even with small Hobbit figures climbing it? Because just turning to show his profile now seems silly and a waste. Why turn at all ... just turn off the spotlights on him and put him in the dark. Because as it is, its like he is just really bad at hide and seek.

All I am saying is that now that the full rotation from behind a mountain side is gone, just decouple it from the gold pile so you don't see all that motion in the treasure pile - it is not needed. The head will still do what it does today, and should look better without the gold bib attached to him. The way the mech is working now is basically the remnants of an idea that was scraped. This change would get it more in line with the current mech design.

Another plus is that the gold Smaug especially would look better decoupled as well. It blends in too much now as it is - decupling it from the pile would help it stand out more.

I wonder if Smaug is going to spit out the ball in the next release. That would be great!

Unless WB and Jackson had a change of heart this isn't going to happen
