I call this genre of super late sequels "geezers with guns"
Harrison Ford, Linda Hamilton, Jamie Lee Curtis... Just looks like a retirement home cosplay contest.

2016 remake > Ghostbusters 2.
The story was solid, the explanation of the tech was cool and the action scenes at the end were pretty good.
But it wasn't funny. And there was a lot of really obvious improv that went on forever (god knows how much else was cut!)
Nope. I don't care if the scene has a jerry-rigged Nintendo Advantage in it because the scene is STUPID. They just wanted a way to get a "giant thing on screen" like Stay Puft in Part 1.
The entire climax of that movie is the GB's laying on the floor. So lame.
Also Bill Murray clearly didn't want to be involved and instead made a romantic comedy with Sigorney Weaver that they just kind of edited into the plot.

Yes you are right, and it's a formula we will continue to see until more of these movies flop Terminator 6 style. For now it still seems like a fairly safe bet for the rebootquel formula.

THIS. This is why the first movie worked. Not only is he a famous and talented comedian, he takes the subject of ghosts seriously.
His vodka isn't that amazing though
