Quoted from Eric_S:

Anyone know anything about this daughter interface board on the under-playfield 6 digit display on my Stern Lightning? Specifically, will it cause any issues when installing LED displays?

Just found this...

https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/stern-lightning-bonus-display-missing-digits-need-expert

Bonus / Timer Control Interface Board. Looks like it's using solenoid Q18 as part of the input to the board to derive an alternate blanking signal. It's doing some other funky things too.. so it has a specific function to change the normal display behavior for the playfield display in that game. Skimming the manual quick, I don't see a good explanation of how the board functions. But since it's plugging into a regular 6-digit plasma display, you should be fine with the LED displays in there.

Will be kind of interesting to hear if anyone else has further explanation on what the board is doing exactly. Looks like all Stern Lightning games would have that board connected to the playfield display.

The new configurations of the LED sets with the custom digits are now available via the website!

UNO Style - https://www.pinitech.com/products/ballystern_display_uno.php

TRADITIONAL Style - https://www.pinitech.com/products/ballystern_display_traditional.php

Right now these are being offered in AMBER & WHITE digit colors.

See below for the look of the new "Custom" Digits (with comma):
digits_comma (resized).jpgdigits_comma (resized).jpg

If enough people request, I can also order in some BLUE digits for these custom digits with comma. With the WHITE digit sets you can add a blue color filter for blue digits. Or as an alternative, you can go with the old style digits (see below).

*WHILE SUPPLIES LAST* -- $20 Discount on "Old Style" Digits (AMBER / BLUE DIGITS ONLY)
I have a few boxes of the previous style digits remaining in AMBER and BLUE colors. These are the digits with decimals (as seen through most of this thread) and still look great if you're replacing the entire set. If you want to swap the new custom digits for the "Old Style" digits, I can discount each set by $20.00 off the new KIT / Assembled pricing on the website. Contact me via PM / email if you'd like to order a set with the old style digits.

See below for the look of the "Old Style" Digits (with decimal):

The 6-digit displays must have been installed by someone that enjoys the thrill of rolling scores easily

I'm going to stop posting updates to this thread since these displays are now being sold under their new configurations with custom digits.

A new thread was created here for the new set configurations:
https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/new-pinitech-led-displays-for-classic-bally-stern-plasma-contender

I'll be updating the main post in this thread to refer to the new set configurations. Still happy to answer any questions here in regard to the previous configuration of the displays, but all new updates will be posted to the link above.

Once again, I still have AMBER & BLUE colors in the "old style" digits (with decimal). I'm going to work on creating a separate link to purchase sets with that configuration, until the digits are sold-out.. but trying not to confuse things on the website any more than necessary. For now, PM or email if you're still interested in purchasing a display set with the older style digits & I'll quote a price.

As promised, here are links to easily order the display sets in their older configurations (DIY Kits):

UNO STYLE (generic digits) DIY Kit
Starting at $129.95 for a 6-digit set in AMBER
https://www.pinitech.com/products/ballystern_display_uno_generic.php

TRADITIONAL STYLE (generic digits) DIY Kit
Starting at $144.95 for a 6-digit set in AMBER
https://www.pinitech.com/products/ballystern_display_traditional_generic.php

These are available WHILE SUPPLIES LAST. Only AMBER or BLUE digits remaining, until they sell out.

*Be sure to check out the new thread showing our newest display upgrades with the custom LED digit (with comma) we designed. Pricing is a bit higher, but well worth the cost! The new digits come incredibly close to matching the look of plasma displays and look awesome in a Classic Bally/Stern machine line-up!

BUMP..

I still have one remaining assembled "GENERATION 1" BLUE 6-digit UNO Set available (as noted in the previous post).
$215 + shipping. See previous post for details.

This should be the last of the GEN1 assembled sets I'll be offering for sale, as I'm no longer assembling sets with the older style digits.

GENERATION 1 Sets - Available On The Website Again
Also wanted to mention that the **CLOSEOUT SALE** on GEN1 generic digit DIY Kits linked again on the website. With so many display options (UNO, TRADITIONAL, RETROFIT.. generic or custom digits, etc) I had to figure out a non-confusing way to offer sets with the older style digits and I think I've got that figured out now.

https://www.pinitech.com/products/cat_displays.php

The GEN1 displays won't come close to matching the look of plasma displays, but if you value saving $4-5 per individual display over the improved aesthetics of the custom digits, you have the option to order the sets with the previous style digits (while supplies last). Personally I think the minimal extra cost is worth every penny, but I also don't mind offering the older style digits at a slightly lower price point because I need to use up the remaining digits
