Nice video. Thanks for sharing that here.

I'm on your LE list, Joe. I. Can't. Wait. The hype for this is equal to what I was feeling for Ghostbusters, which was an all-time high for me.

Damn. Between this and the video they did for The Hobbit JJP easily has the best, and most professional, trailers in pinball.

#4 6 years ago

They should have had this trailer ready for the announcement at expo last year. Might have reduced some of the negative feedback they originally received.

Quoted from DeeGor:

That would have been nice. The reveal needed far more showmanship. Should have shown a trailer like this and then the lights come on just a little and Jack could have said "ladies and gentlemen I'm proud to introduce the designer of Dialed In Pat Lawlor!". Crowd goes nuts.

Better late then never, trailer is amazing.

#6 6 years ago

You have to hand it to them. These videos are absolutely amazing and makes the other companies PR efforts look like 1st grade projects. Mind you these days doesnt' take much to still sell out.

#7 6 years ago

I can't wait til the next pinball is announced just so I can see the trailer.

#8 6 years ago

Damn, that video is pretty awesome!!! very professional, it does destroy other companies promo videos!

#9 6 years ago

Very cool.....

#10 6 years ago

Ha, that video is super corny, but like in a great 80s way, I love it. Deep voiceover, bad dialed in reference, the guy playing turning into the cell phone guy at the end, it's the right kind of cheesy. Great production value too, if you're going to go all out tongue in cheek it helps to have it polished.

Good to see promotion of original pinball themes again!

#11 6 years ago

It's great to see a professional trailer for a pin! Well done JJP

#12 6 years ago

Well it certainly is cheesy, but glad to see the effort being put into these. Hopefully it draws more buyers!

#13 6 years ago

I'm wondering if the guy playing likes pinball or is just some actor who looks like the cell phone guy ? I didn't catch he was dressed like the guy in the artwork until he morphed into him... Neat extra stuff to do that in addition to showing the game...

#14 6 years ago
Quoted from PinballSTAR:

Ha...I don;t know how you missed his giant red "straight off the rack" shirt man.

#15 6 years ago

I love the epic cheese. Great promo vid.

#16 6 years ago

Should have started with "In a world..."

But, apart from that, awesome!

#17 6 years ago

Cheesy, but pretty cool. I would love a DI some day.

#18 6 years ago

This promo is awesome! Definitely a great way to get people hyped up, even non-hobbyists. I chuckled at how bragadocious JJP is on their Facebook page...

"Introducing the BEST pinball promo, ever made."

#19 6 years ago

Cheesy as hell, just like the theme....but you can't argue with the production value and cuts. WAY WAY WAY more professional than anything Stern has put out videowise to promo a new game...

Not to mention games that are actually playtested before mass production and shipment. It's nice to know I won't be a beta tester on this one.

Also, complete code on shipment! Jack met a promise he made years ago with this game. Doesn't mean the code is finished, it will still be refined, but he is shipping a game with actual complete code. Very nice!

#21 6 years ago

It plays smooth as a cue ball! Easily in Pat Lawlor's top five games!

The whole game is like that. Whatever you think of the theme, it's really polished looking.

The new building looks better now too. I always have faith in David Thiel's work.

It's all about the price for me. I might spend that on a pin, maybe, but only if it's just what I want. No theme that's okay, or fine, it has to be amazing for that kind of cash.

If it connects with you, or you just don't care about the cost, I think people are going to enjoy it a lot.

#23 6 years ago

Very cool video, this is the game to get , no doubt (depending on price that is..). Alot to like here.
What was the purpose of that SD card? How does it work?
Also, Is Keith the programmer on this?

Rule Spoiler Alert***

The SIM card is a reward for beating a mode.

Each SIM card gives you a mode score multiplier. It also unlocks more contacts to call for modes. As well as a letter in spelling dialed in.

I think Ted Estes is the lead programmer.

#25 6 years ago

Thanks Pd.

#26 6 years ago

Ted and Pat have done alot of working together in the past, nice to see them back together again.

#27 6 years ago
Quoted from limelime20:

Maybe Keith Johnson should receive alot less credit on these machines...??

Keith is the lead programmer on WOZ and TH, Ted is the lead programmer on DI.

#28 6 years ago

Ok, I'll admit, that video was pretty badass.

Remember 5 years ago when we said "$8000???? Hell no, I'll get out before that. That is insane!!" Now the lowest priced version of this game is $8000, and here we go, getting in line just waiting for it. What a difference.

#29 6 years ago

intentional or not, reminds me of the cheesy "Now your playing with POWER" Nintendo commercials from the 80s.
Fits perfectly, can't wait to play one.
Nice job JJP!

#30 6 years ago

Cool Video, I then watched another video with some gameplay... sorry for now I am not impressed. I will need to get some good play time on one in order to form my own opinion and see the potential.

So the more SIM cards you get the more modes you can see and access? Any idea how many different modes or wizard modes there are?

You picked a shaky 3-month old video with early code. Here try this one, it's 1.0 code from last Thursday:

That video is much better, Buffalo Pinball produces great videos(probably because they know how to play). It does look like a deep complex game. Great for a seasoned player and ideal for in home use. I can't see non pinheads playing this game on location and getting anywhere towards any progression or goals. I imagine players without skills will get eaten up on this title and get discouraged and walk away.

Nor did I. That was a fun touch JJP put on the video.

Stern did a really good promo video for both Metallica and XMen...not sure if they've done any professional ones other than those two.

I'm still at that point. I like Dialed In. It'd be fun to have. I can't talk myself into spending that much on a pin. Oh well.

I hope it works out for them. I want more original themes...I just can't deal with this one. The cellphone thing really irritates me. I have a cell phone in front of my face 90% of the day as it is. The 5 or 10% I get to relax is not time I want a slightly different one, or mine, being used to play pinball with lol.

Quoted from musketd:

Currently there's 12-15 main modes, 3 bobs modes and one wizard mode.
There's also a few other modes that are in but not finished.
Like captive ball drone mode
Drop target mode
Scratch and win mb

Feels like a 90s toy commercial but for adults with a slightly slicker feel. Good times!

I've heard variations on that same theme from a lot of people, you're not alone. Personally I think the phone thing was a mistake, keep the whole theme, make it a more futuristic pocket computer instead with a slightly different form factor, and suddenly no one would care. Bonus, no Dialed In name.

Phones just aren't sexy or aspirational, we all have them, we're all glued to them. If the game is good it won't really matter, but the launch would have been smoother with a different take. I was in the room when they unveiled it, and man the phone thing just didn't go over well. Quantum Chaos City or whatever would have probably had a much different reaction.

Whatever, I still want a chance to play it more.

#40 6 years ago

Thanks Aurich for voicing my exact thoughts - cellphones are not cool since they are as common as forks. Don't even comment on the man-holding-cellphone theme any more (which by the way they doubled down on in the video) because I seem to be one of very few left that refuse to drink the theme cool aid. I think DI will go down as the best playing, fun, most solidly designed and built pin with a theme that I can only describe as spectacular in a very special way and confused way. I really believe that if they would have wrapped this with a more focused theme, any focused theme at all, they would sell double. Love JJP, hope they sell 10,000, but just can't wrap my head around this.

#41 6 years ago

Well it's PL and it turned out to be a disaster theme like we all thought so...yeah; I'll see if I like it when it gets here.

The thing people don't get about the game is that the phone makes the gameplay more intuitive. The phone is how the various characters communicate with you. The phone rings, you answer it, and someone gives you some information - it's very natural and instantly understandable. If you swapped it for a "futuristic pocket computer" (which is basically the definition of a cell phone anyway) you would then have to explain what that was before people could understand how to use it.

Maybe the phone isn't sexy (tell that to all the people lining up to buy the newest cell phone) but neither is a coffee cup and no one complains about that in Diner.

It's a done deal, so I don't want to rehash it all too much, but nothing you're describing is actually a difficult gameplay decision to solve. They went with a phone, and that's fine, but the reaction they got for it is the reaction they got, and we could have all told them it would happen ahead of time. So to me it was a miscalculation.

I wish the game the best, I honestly don't care about any of it with any real passion aside from the price stuff. That's where I actually draw the line. I hate seeing the hobby just getting more expensive every year, when the $10k by Xmas jokes fall flat because we've already got games selling NIB for more than that it's sad.

Nope. Disaster porn.

Earthquakes, tornados, alien invasion, etc. you're destroying the city as you play.

It's not ABOUT a phone, it just has a phone in it.

The game really needs to be played. I was thinking I would like it but end up not buying it. In a short time this will be a top 10 game. I could even see the code deepening.

Totally, but I'd love to see maybe a night mode or the day moving to night depending on hour of day being played. It's great as it is but adding to it would never hurt.
