New code update for Iron Man. Didn’t see that one coming. Maybe Wheel of Fortune is just around the corner...

V 01.85 - 11-March-2020
=======================

- Added a new skill shot rule:
- Activate by holding in the left flipper button and plunging the ball
to the top lanes.
- The left orbit up-post will remain DOWN and the normal skill shot will
be disabled.
- Either lane will award 1M + 250K for each additional skill shot made
(old or new).
- Whiplash multiball autofire time increased from 5 seconds to 10 seconds.
- Added additional information to the background display effect for WHIPLASH
multiball.
- Whiplash multiball jackpots increased from 250K to 350K + an additional
12.5K per shot made, up to a maximum of 500K.
- Added new effects for WHIPLASH multiball 1/2-way jackpot (the first award
that is collected at the WHIPLASH targets). Formerly, this required two
shots for 500K and 1M. Now, this requires one shot for 2.5M.
- Added new effects for WHIPLASH multiball super jackpot (the second award
that is collected at the WHIPLASH targets). The score has been increased
from 3M to 5M.
- Fixed an issue with the speech for HIGH SCORE TO DATE that would cause
some of the phrases to be repeated back to back.
- Added speech for the flipper buttons in ATTRACT MODE.
- Added speech at game start.
- Added a setting that allows the IRON MAN mode (FAST SCORING, 2X SCORING,
HURRY-UP) to be started when READY during MULTIBALL. The current default
is OFF (i.e. to not allow the mode to start; this is the same behavior as
before).
- Fixed an issue where the background lamp effect for the IRON MAN mode
start ready (the pulsing lights on the IRON MAN targets) would run when
the mode had been qualified but could not be started (during multiball).
- USA default game pricing changed to USA 11 (1/$1 3/$2).
- Added an EXTRA BALL for completing the IRON MAN standup targets. The
current default (adjustable) is 2 completions.
- Fixed errors in text and limit values of adjustments.
- Added a half-way bonus for the MARK SUITS. The bonus is lit after the
third MARK SUIT and awarded at the SPINNER.
- Reduced the number of WHIPLASH TARGETS needed for subsequent WHIPLASH
MULTIBALLS from +5 hits to +1 hit, as an adjustment.
- Added a maximum number of hits for WHIPLASH, as an adjustment.
- SHIELD lanes now light S.H.I.E.L.D. (MYSTERY) after the lanes during
JERICHO MISSILE MAYHEM have been completed.
- Added high score tables for BOGEY, IRON MAN, WAR MACHINE, IRON MONGER,
WHIPLASH, DRONES, and DO OR DIE MULTIBALL.
- Game over effects are terminated when entering test mode.
- Synced the knocker to run with replay/special effects.
- Renamed music and speech volume adjustments (attenuation).
- Fixed a bug that was causing the Magnet device driver to ignore the
"disabled" adjustment.
- Fixed switches from showing up in the tech alert when they are not
broken. These include:

CENTER COIN
RIGHT COIN
FOURTH COIN
FIFTH COIN
DEDICATED #15 (NOT USED)
TILT PENDULUM
SLAM TILT (OPTIONAL)

- Updated to new versioning scheme.

No reduction in drones needed for do or die. I was hoping that would be an option. Still, a fabulous update for a ten year old game. Thanks Lyman!

Not really...it still ignores the one thing the game REALLY needs...make DoD multiball obtainable. Oh well. Everything else is nice at least.

If you have already updated, is there any chance you can test drone hits? I know it’s not in the read me but with Ironman targets and whiplash being adjusted I’m surprised the drones have been left.

Fantastic update though, extra speech and lighting along with the high score tables are amazing additions!

Test the drone hits how? I've already played the game and hit the drone targets to light War Machine and all the way through to Do or Die. I didn't notice any differences as far as code progression or DMD video.

If we do, I'll fix it. Assuming I can get it in without making the file much bigger. I just barely managed to get it to squeeze under the memory limit the first time by jumping through hoops with manually optimizing a bunch of stuff. But maybe Randy's got better compression on stuff now.

Edit: Based on what's in the readme, I would expect the whiplash display changes and super skill shot would be broken at a minimum - but I haven't checked it out yet.

Game up loaded fine. Actually had a good score for me. One shot away from DOD and DRAINO!!!

For the one asked about why replace the music. There was an up date that had a couple of real cool additions at the end of the game and one of the multi balls . Was a real nice touch

Damn, I guess I have to find a new update Rom. Mine is toast, and I want this update!

The main excitement for me is the addition of an earnable extra ball. It's the only thing this game lacked... Aside from the flawed drone requirement for DOD MB. I can live without DOD MB, but it would be nice if it was achievable.

EDIT: I've always had the top post disabled, so the skill shot won't be anything new.

Regarding color. Just updated and did some testing.

- New high score bits for the various new categories are broken in attract
- 2 new video clips in whiplash multiball! (broken, of course)
- the 'idle' screen in whiplash multiball needs a little help due to there being more text on it now
- New 'arc reactor bonus' screen for the shot after mark 3
- Super skill shot if you plunge a lane with the flipper held

So much for no new display stuff.

This is my concern. Can whoever did the Shoot To Thrill and Iron Man at the end of the game customizations just add those to this new code without a lot of work?

Would like to upgrade to this new code but like that music version and additions so much better then the bland factory stuff.

I know! I have two 10 year old Sterns (Big Buck Hunter and AC/DC) and Big Buck Hunter especially needs some major bug fixes, and AC/DC needs some final bug fixes. I don't hold much hope for Big Buck Hunter, but maybe AC/DC since those are probably still sitting on shelves somewhere.

Does this mean your update *might* not work on the older (less memory) ColorDMD hardware? I remember having to buy the newer version for Spidey, back in the day, but I’m not sure which h/w type I have in Iron Man - need to check! I’m sure a good number of IM + ColorDMD owners will have a couple of displays in their possession and can shuffle them to suit each game’s memory reqs if forced.

If you’re going to do Iron Man in Colour - do it right... and ideally spell Colour right too, but we can’t have everything

If they fixed bbh, I'd buy it again! Code is the primary flaw.

Ha ha! I like Transformers too. I prefer Lyman games but Iron Man and Transformers are very Lonnie.

Transformers had waison as lead. I’m sure Lonnie worked with him too. They already did a final update to the game a while ago

Lonnie likely had nothing to do with this update, if the rumour/info is to be believed Lyman did this at home on an Ironman he had loaned to him, Lonnie is knee deep in Stranger Things code.

That’s by design, has always been that way.

You can stack:

Monger + War Machine
War Machine + Whiplash

If Monger goes up, Whiplash turns off
If Whiplash starts first, War Machine/Monger turns off

Glass off test as I forgot how to get Whiplash Super Jackpot. After the half way stage, hitting Whiplash for the new car smashing animation, then hit a few more ramps and you get ‘0 zero jackpots remain’ then ‘255 jackpots remain’

Where do we send bug report these days??

Not sure how you tripped it into that hole. When I was capturing for color updates I was mashing ramp switches and it worked normally.
