I recently uploaded the new 1.21 code into my Munsters Pro and the game randomly stops playing. I suspect the flash drive is the problem so I downloaded onto a new flash drive, but the machine does not see “new” code when it starts up. I tried incorrectly uploading Premium code, but it doesn’t see that code either. Other than getting a SD card writer, how can I reload the 1.21 code into the game?

It should go into code update mode when you boot with a thumb drive, no matter the version of code on the drive. I'd try the other port first and then try wiggling the drive a bit in the port to see if you get a better connection. Had an issue recently where the port wasn't recognizing the wifi adapter, but playing with the positioning fixed it.

New thumb drive with freshly downloaded code. Totally baffled. Tried both ports and wiggled it.

The fact that you get that screen is good. It is seeing the drive. Did you unzip/extract it so the .spk file is on there? Not the .zip?

So, I was finally able to find a Zip drive that worked and I was able to upload the code.

Thanks to all for your help!

But, while playing, the game is still randomly stopping. This machine never had any problems until loading this code update.

I’ve sent a couple message to Stern, but is there anything else I could do until they respond?

Can't tell from the posts, did you replace the SD card with a new one or just get a new USB thumb drive? There are many reports on the forums about people having weird issues being resolved by replacing the SD card.

If you haven't, get a new SD card. You will have to then download the SD card image from Stern, and use an SD writer to update it.

This is different than just updating the code. If the SD card itself is bad no amount of updating will change anything. Luckily it is relatively cheap thing to try while waiting to hear from Stern.

Yes, I was using a USB. Working on replacing the SD. Did not expect this to result in an unplayable pin, but appreciate the comments and advice!

Wouldn’t have been anything specific about the update or update process itself, sometimes SD cards (or any type of storage) start having errors. That being said I think Stern might’ve gotten a batch of counterfeit SD cards at some point as they do seem to fail more often than they should.

    Thanks for all the responses!

Working on getting a new SD card, and will post results.

So by now what was the result?

Sorry for the long delay, but I finally got a SD card with the 1.21 code today. Plugged it in and the game played great. Walked away for 10 minutes and it won’t load a game again like before. Really lost and regretting loading this new code. Never had an issue with this machine until this. Very disappointed in Stern not replying to any of my emails, and not sure what to do next.

load the prior code onto the SD card and see if the problems stays. Maybe the node board firmware glitched when it was sent out.

Unfortunately, I don’t have the prior code

I’m so disgusted with this situation and no support from Stern, that I’ve found other things to do—I’ll eventually circle back and try to fix or maybe sell.
