Quoted from smassa:Agree with everything you said. I just wonder that the reaction would be if someone were to hold a male only pinball tourney. Yes I heard her response on the podcast was "just like every other tourney". But would she totally be happy without having the option to participate??? Can't imagine a major stink wouldn't be made if that were to happen.
The problem with this argument is that excluding a minority isn't the same thing as setting up a safe place for a minority. The purpose is different between the two. Why would you hold a men's only tournament? What's the point?
Kids like Escher have proven that age really doesn't matter, but no one is upset about kids tournaments. That's because it is understood that we want to make a place that is friendly to those who are new to the scene.
I'll go out on a limb and say that the long term goal of women's only tournaments is to get more women into pinball and to have them join the main tournaments. No one is trying to create a segregated society, they are just trying to bring more people into the tent. One way to do that is to make events that are specifically aimed at that demographic. We should all support anyone who is trying to grow the hobby.
