Hey guys and gals. I just recently finished my complete restore of my Twilight Zone. It looks and plays fantastic. I just have a couple of questions. I put on new cabinet decals and noticed a couple of things. First of all I was super careful putting them on and everything went well. However after I was done and waited a full 24 hours to install the legs (with leg protectors) I when I went later to change out my legs that there was some minor wrinkling in the decals under the protectors. Nothing that can be seen with the protectors on but none the less I was surprised and disappointed and curious is this a known issue with new Gen 2 cabinet decals from Planetary Pinball? Also should I put some mylar cabinet button protectors on to prevent wear there or do these decals not need that? Also one last question, my TZ slot switch is hammered all the way back and I know this is VERY common even though it only has 30 or 40 games on it! Anyway my question is , is it o.k to put one of those enhanced TZ slot switches from PBR ? Or will it pull on the screws under the playfield? Or is there any other solution to this issue? Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance for any assistance.

chances are that you didn't make sure that the legs with in the up-most position (butted up as far as they could go) when installing and tightening them down initially. when you finally let the legs handle the weight of the cabinet, they shifted up (as the cabinet settled), causing the wrinkling.

since you've gone to the trouble of doing the decal restoration, I would look into picking up a set of the metal cabinet protectors that stern installs on all of their new machines (since ac/dc) and scoring the decals just outside of them to prevent any wrinkling.

pinball life sells the cabinet protectors, which can be found here:

more information on them (and how they avoid the wrinkling) can be found here:

Thanks for the tip. Yes I checked into that thread on decals wrinkling. I'm lucky my wrinkling was fairly minor and the protectors do cover it up, but it still sucks. If I have to do decals again I'll make sure I use either felt or try out that metal protector that Terry @ pinballlife sells.

You could try installing a new Kerry Stair scoop (Mantis Amusements). It's rock solid and comes complete with a metal switch reinforcement pre welded to it. Check it out here:

Good luck,

Fresh cab decals are fragile, I would use the felt leg protectors and install the legs correctly with them being all the way "up" before setting the machine weight on them. Also watch for any legs that the 90 degree angle is not matching your cabinet corner. If a leg is >90 on the opening it will push your decal while tightening down.

Thanks. I've ordered felt protectors now and I'm looking into modifying my scoop with the same kinda thing that the Mantis one has. If that doesn't work then I will buy the Mantis scoop.
