It's time for Pinside to will this into existence. This and Back to the Future are my grail themes that haven't been done lately.

    My thoughts/wishlist:

    1. Don't try to do too much. Make it based on either Sean Connery's bond movies, or Daniel Craig's, but not the entire series of movies and actors.

    2. Keith, Brian Eddy, or Eric M. on design

    3. You need the assets. Music, art, actors, film scenes, etc...I'd be disappointed with a generic story without assets.

    4. Give me a castle in MM level feature (probably won't happen, but it's my wishlist)

    My top 2 would be
    Roger Moore
    Sean Connery

I’m not a fan of the one actor idea.

At a minimum it needs to be a combo of the slot machine titles that came out recently and I believe Kapow was involved with that so there is a chance.

    Slots were
    Gold finger
    Live and Let Die
    Tomorrow Never Dies
    Casino Royale
    Thunder ball
    Diamonds are for Ever.

Package these 6 into one pinball machine and I’m in!

Although I’d like Moonraker and View to a Kill in there as well.

I think it would be pretty complicated to license more than one actor / movie into this game. Licensing for this could be a tangled, expensive, and time consuming web.

I have an old Lp “the best of bond” with every theme song up to octopussy. The album jacket has a ton of photos of Bind girls and stuntmen shots from the flicks and zero actual clear photos of bond actors. The hand drawn bond is a generic Connery type. I’m sure there a reason for that. And the album is from 1984, a far less litigious time.

Anything is possible I’m just not sure it’s feasible. You’d be dealing with numerous estates / actors, not to mention the music, every different film etc. sounds like a nightmare when there are hundreds of much “easier” licenses to pull off unless we could settle for a “one movie” game like goldeneye.

I’m not sure pinside could handle the other option, a Jurassic park-style generic bond pin. It would be a dark night for stern.

    #5 3 years ago

If it’s just one movie it isn’t worth doing.

Those slot machines have a shit ton of assets from music, Bond, girls, villains etc...

I think it could be done and as much as I hate to say it, it’s right up Kapow’s alley.

Could be one actor and several movies or 1 movie from each Bond etc...many many options.

I saw this in a Las Vegas casino amongst many other digital slot machines that obviously share intellectual property with modern pinball machines (Wonka, JP, etc.). I think there is at least a chance this is featuring media created by/with a pinball manufacturer.

    Just my theory.

I don’t see any of the actors there, does the slot feature actual actors’ faces?

It does go without saying I think that the slots also probably have a much bigger budget for IP than we do. They are printing money !!!

    #8 3 years ago

Sean Connery or don't even bother. Unless they want to make a pin based solely on what is my favorite Bond film.

I believe I saw Sean's face in some video. That was Thunderball which I see was mentioned already.

I've recently been going back and watching all the movies. The Roger Moore era was horrendous. Timothy Dalton is underrated. Connery wins the prize by a long shot.

I'd be down for another Bond pin. It's a timeless theme that would easily sell.

The new movie is probably going to suck. It is what it is.

I tend to agree. The Roger Moore movies to me are mindless/campy fun, but he is my least favorite bond.

My order is Connery, Craig, Dalton, Brosnan, Lazenby, Moore.

The actors are in all of them and there are videos on YouTube showing it.

Like I said, pretty sure Joe K was involved in that licensing deal and wouldn’t surprise me if this was what’s used in a pin.

The remake of Casino Royale was the best Bond film of all-time. Craig.

I like it, but I think Skyfall is Craig's best movie, and maybe the best Bond movie.

    #15 3 years ago

Overall, I'd like one based on Connery's six films. If you couldn't get the license to all those...get the movies you could.

    - Dr. no
    - From Russia with Love
    - Thunderball
    - You Only Live Twice
    - Goldfinger
    - Diamonds are Forever

    #16 3 years ago

If your going to make a bond theme , There needs to be a mode where James Bond is in bed all ready to go before the lady shows up and then says “I thought u were going to take care of me personally “

I think roger Moore will be better at this mode

    #17 3 years ago

Would have include the theme music and song tracks

    #18 3 years ago

1 of my dream themes. I liked all the different era's of Bond. I think a Bond would do very well for Stern. Elwin or Gomez would be sweet.

    #19 3 years ago

A pin based on all the Bond films would be great, with 3 or 4 modes for each based on the action scenes.
    (LOL, that'd be 100 modes)

This 2012 blu-ray commercial shows the potential...

No Time to Die is the 25th Bond film. That would be 70-100 modes.

In my opinion, that would be crazy hard to bring in that much material. I think it would lead to a watered down experience.

I rather see it focused on an era.

    #21 3 years ago

Slightly off topic, but after Craig is done, I would like to see the franchise go back to the 50's, where Ian Fleming novels originally took place. (Casino Royale was published in 1953)

I have read most of the novels, and some like Moonraker are really great and nothing at all like the movie.

They need a hard reset after Craig. His movies told one story and it would be hard to replace him I think like they have in the past. They could even set the movie in WWII and tell the beginning of Bond's espionage career.

100 modes or chapters sounds like a JJP machine to me.

I'm tired of all this over serious bullshit. The last Bond movie was fucking awful.

Time to reset - again. This time go back to the goofy Moore years and have a few laughs. Why the hell not?

Craig isn't even the first "serious reboot." Dalton did it 30 years ago.

Variety is the spice of life. The last Bond movie was no fucking fun at all.

As an aside, I hope the next Bond is black, preferably gay. Variety baby!

I'm not ready for him to be a woman though. I heard rumors in the early 90s they were thinking of making Sharon Stone Bond, or having Tarantino direct and make it a 60s period piece. Interesting ideas!

In the end they went with Remmington's Steele's warmed over Connery act. Was a good move for the time and Goldeneye was a fun movie. The rest of his sucked.

I like the tone of Craig's movies. I liked Spectre.

Overall I prefer the more serious Bonds...Connery, Dalton, and Craig vs Moore and Brosnan.

I think the reset we'll see will be to set Bond in the 50s or 60s, which I think would be great.

    Re:
    The Man from U.N.C.L.E.
2015 American spy film directed by Guy Ritchie set in 1963
    Decent film.
It was a box-office bomb, grossing $107 million worldwide on a $75 million budget.

Your next Bond film is going to look more like a Fast & Furious movie and be directed by Edgar Wright (Baby Driver), it's always a British Director.

    #26 3 years ago

Few will agree, but Timothy Dalton was the best Bond.

You need to get the license for the Aston Martin.....the ball can go in a scoop, you flip the shooter rod top and hit the eject button to shoot at a stand up on the pf. And of course the shooter rod will have to be an L shaped shift lever for maximum effect. It also needs a jump ramp like No Fear. Hmmm, also you need a laser, the laser will be pointing to a surgical table with the Bond figure strapped to it...you have to hit certain shots to stop the laser from cutting Bond in half....lol. this could be great...but you know we'll just end up with a Dr. No bash toy instead.

    Haha, I like your ideas.

The shooter rod idea is great. That would would be perfect theme integration.

a general James Bond pinball would be awesome with maybe the approach of 1 x ramp being planes / air travel, another ramp being motorbikes / cars, a subway being under water, a shot to a building for weapon selection, another shot to a hotel for a meetup / hookup with a contact and then the pinball having 30 missions.

Each mission is effectively a mode which is a summary of that particular movie with the mission name being the same or similar to a bond movie.
Each mission / mode being different with a car trip, a plane trip, get weapons, hookup with a contact, introduce proximity mines (so if a shot is red and you go down it, that mission is over) and bobby traps etc and each one in a different order.

    OR

how about like the movie Kingsman where you go through 6-8 modes of "00" Training (weapons, hand combat, driving, battles (online against other players) etc) then you are sent out for your first mission (Grand Wizard Mode) to become the next "007" if you succeed and if you do, you put put your name up on the "007" board which can list all the actors in order of the movies and then you get to list your name behind them and the game gives you a fake movie name and the next time you get there a different movie fake movie name is put up - this would be good to be up on the internet where Stern can have 100 fake movies and the highest score for that fake movie gets your name up. This could get around some of the licensing possibly.

    #30 3 years ago

I have a Goldeneye and it really integrates well into the movie from the tank multiball, Xenia Onatopp ball squeeze to the second chance eject and of course the satellite shot. So if a new Bond pin (Stern?) is tied well to the next Bond film, No Time to Die, that would be ok with me. Since Daniel Craig's Bond films all follow the same arc with Spectre, elements from all four of his previous Bond outings could be brought in easily.

If Stern does have the license I expect we will be finding out soon enough ...

    #31 3 years ago

I really liked his two movies. I wish he had made more.

    #32 3 years ago

I'd be OK with JAWS vs JAWS

    JAWSVSJAWS (resized).jpegJAWSVSJAWS (resized).jpeg
    #33 3 years ago

Elements a Bond game needs: This assumes a pin would be based on multiple movies and not one in particular.

    - Most movies include a massive structure getting blown to hell in the final act.

    1. The pin needs a MM level type toy that is multi staged and gets "destroyed". This could represent a major villain.

    - Gambling of some sort.

    2. Could be in the modes, represented in the artwork, or with playfield toys, but gambling needs to be the game.

    - Major villain

    3. Need assets and callouts and scenes of the beat lines from whatever villains are in the game.

    - Alcohol

You need this in the game. A martini like DP did with the white russian would be cool.

    - Bond Girls

The game needs callouts from the major Bond girls, and artwork, etc...

    - Ashton Martin or fast cars in general

Could be used as a ball lock/cannon, or like one previous poster mentioned an eject button in the shooter rod that ejects or shoots a ball.

    - Exotic locations

Artwork/plastics/screen could reflect different locations where Bond is traveling.

    - Music

You have to have the Bond soundtrack and title songs from the movies represented.

    - Walther PPK

Bond's gun could be used in a variety of ways. It could be the action button that fired something...a gun instead of a shooter knob, etc...

    - Gadgets

Seems like a good use of magnets or "lasers". Lots of creative options here.

How bout another Ward Bond pinball theme?

I know they already did Wagon Train, but this time it could include video scenes from the show and that epic theme song.

Or they could go with John Wayne and Ward Bond. Lots of movies there to choose from.

    #36 3 years ago

Interesting fact is Gottlieb released Wagon Train in April 0f 1960 with Ward Bond's likeness on the playfield, 7 months before he died of a massive heart attack. His good friend John Wayne did the eulogy. They found a replacement, but the magic was gone and the show was never the same again.

Would love to see it with a Dr. Who/Game of thrones/TMNT style play.... where you get to pick your "Bond" at start up. And the modes will change in conjunction with that particular Bond.

    Sounds like Bond is happening.

I hope it's based off either Sean Connery's movies or Daniel Craig's. Has anyone heard anything other than Gomez on the design?

    #47 1 year ago

Hope the game is S.P.E.C.T.R.E and you the player is James Bond and you have to defeat 8 villains (1 for each tentacle) and then head of the organisation.

Even though characters like Jaws may not have fallen under an organisation it could be a cool way to link all the best villains in one game and then have a generic bond - all the faces morphed together

A hype thread for a theme with 48 comments gets a game, no new BTTF?

If Stern do it right, you'll have the sexiest and coolest pinball machine ever made. There's nothing nerdy or geeky about Bond.
