Greetings! During my last restoration I decided to (finally) stop, and put together my own pinball subwoofer amplifier. I had several criteria. First, I'm sort of a purist so I didn't want to create something that modified the wiring or cabinet. Second, I wanted to create something that was easy to install with minimal effort (hand tools only, and no soldering). Finally, I wanted it to be universal and to work with any pin, and to be able to offer it to others. I think I'm there!

The end result far exceed my own expectations, and after showing it to a few guys and seeing their reactions, I decided to move forward with my own enterprise and to produce these things. After three busy months of getting things dialed in, I've got a number of units I can offer for sale. I've done my best to produce a high quality and reliable product and I sincerely hope you feel the same way!

Please allow me to share my web site:

    https://pinwoofer.com/

    Thank you for your interest!

I was a beta tester in my Williams IJ. I have a pinsound and a fantastic mix. When I added the Pinwoofer 8” it was a game changer! The machine gun sound effect on the standups is amazing now. Everything is theater quality. Original sounds are way better too! Really adds to the immersion. Highest recommendation. The price is surprisingly low considering how much this “mod” adds to the game. For the same price you could get an action figure with led eyes or this!! I liked it so much I ordered another 8” to put in my Stern Star Wars. I’ll report back when I get it done next week.

I should add that installation was super easy. Instructions were clear and basically foolproof. Took about 30 min? Probably could have been quicker but i took my time. Next one will be 20 min.

Following, where is the amp getting power from?

    #5 5 years ago

Looks ok but that giant MADE IN CHINA printed on the woofer would annoy me.
    No American made woofers?

100% American made, good luck. May be a couple out there but your talking $$$$$$$.

For WPC (and others), tap into the 12V line running to the coin door interface board, located in the cabinet harness. This line originates from J116 on the driver board via BR5, F116 up to the transformer secondary. BR5 is running cool. Temperature reading image.

We intentionally source as much as possible from the US for all of the right reasons, but even so, it is very difficult to get away from China as the country of manufacture. We assemble in the USA and plan to continue to do so indefinitely.

I’m going to imagine people with mods and some even without are going to have issues (blowing fuse) when tying into F116. A dedicated power supply would be a much better solution, at least I’d know that’s what I’d do and not tie into F116.

I don't expect there to be any issues unless the line is sharing with something that's not in good working order; leaking / drawing current badly. Here's a temp reading of the AMP after running 60 minutes continuously during testing (talk about getting tired of listening to Fish Tales). Nice and cool.

If F116 is being drawn upon so badly it's blowing, it's due to a different issue.

We've had no trouble with the supply so far with many, many hours of testing. The advantage of the coin door interface line is that the units powers on and off with the pin. By all means keep the good ideas coming!

I tied mine in as directed. I also have a colorDMD, pinsound and a couple led strips. All else is original. Runs like a champ.

True. Always my first choice though.

I live close to PinWoofer and also beta tested. I got a 8 inch kit and installed it in AFM original. Then installed a 6 inch kit in a system 11 transporter the rescue.
Defiantly kicks ass. The 8 inch kit was first and I’d say took 1/2 hour to install.
The directions are good and I took my time. The second kit was 15-20 minute install.
I pulled power from the wires going to the coin door interface harness. The system 11
I also pulled power from the harness going to the coin door. There is only 1 12v wire and 1 ground there. Pretty easy. Real nice stuff and price is right for what you get.
I’m defiantly getting 6 more kits for starters.

System 11 install with the 6 inch
Not sure if all system 11 harness is the same colors but the 12 v was grey with yellow stripe and ground was black with yellow stripe in the harness on left side.

    #16 5 years ago

So this will work with most pins? I’m thinking of getting one for my F14 to really take the pounding bass tones to another level.
And the 8inch is an all in one kit?

    #17 5 years ago

So, i've got to ask. What's your special sauce here? What would i get from you over buying a speaker to line level converter, a Class D 50W amplifier and this speaker from amazon? Or is it the fact that you're offering it in kit form with the wires for easy installation?

I would be very interested to get your feedback on F14. The 8" kit includes everything you'll need to be fully amplified with an 8" speaker. Feel free to PM me if you have questions or concerns about your specific install, or post here. I'd be happy to work with you.

Isn't a powered external subwoofer for 70-90 bucks the best way to go? Its really hard to beat for the price , easy installation and the amount of bass it provides. Also you can hook multiple pins up to one sub? I suppose this is more for folks who don't like stuff under their pins?

I really like your questions. You can take the Amazon route but it won't be the same. Absolutely - ease of getting all of the bits and pieces and easy installation. You'll not find the CNC parts on Amazon (believe me, it would have been a lot easier that way). It's like any great kit; you put a little in to save a little and enjoy the experience. I sincerely hope you'll give us a chance.

I have a couple pins with subwoofers under them and for me it’s not a problem...I don’t like all the extra plugs external subs need. That’s annoying to me. Also I don’t like the idea of using said sub for more than one pin.
If this really pumps out the base I’d consider it a win.

I've seen some great options for what you're describing and I'm sure the results are excellent. As far as "best" way to go, I suppose it's subjective (like your example). Advantages and disadvantages on both sides. I appreciate your comments!

Nice looking product and website !!
Will happily be in with the complete kit for my Munsters Pro machine as soon as you get new Stern machines sorted out.

Like.....I put external switching p/s's in all my games for extra horsepower to drive the mods, so no worries for me there. I also like everything contained in the cab....heading to your site now....

Wow, thanks! This project was a lot of work (and expense) so the recognition is welcome. I really wanted to create something special. I think you'll have something to celebrate in the near future for your Munsters Pro.

@paynemic and @pin-pimp were awesome during this process and provided some valuable (critical) feedback for improvements, which we have incorporated. I.e. installation notes, the extra stop nuts and washer placements, the "goodie bag" of spare connectors, PSND wire gauges, interposer flat, and so on. You guys have been really great and I sincerely appreciate your help and expertise! Looking for the guy up north to chime in tomorrow and maybe the "dark horse". Thank you

As soon as more of the product gets out there I really think there will be a lot of positive feedback.
This thing can bump as loud or soft as one would wants. Can even get it to bump like a shaker motor. Don’t be shy, he is a good seller, collector and restore expert. I know him very well and he has a shop stacked With product ready to go. No waiting or pre order here! Take my money!

    #30 5 years ago

Wanted to address PM's and if you have not messaged me already, please let me know if you want to have a quick call to answer questions, etc., and to work out your options directly. I actually prefer to talk one on one and want to ensure things work out well. If there is a compatibility concern let's chat about that too.

Would it help to add selling to the PinSide site?

Thanks for the overwhelming support! (I'm totally encouraged by how cool everyone is here.)

Id like to hear a pin with your best system in it to compare... but polk psw10 sounds amazing .. i have them on every pin.

    #32 5 years ago

Looking forward to adding this to a location game or two, thinking Party Zone and maybe Hook!

    #33 5 years ago

Also a polk 10 user thus far and really love them, but the idea of having the upgraded sound within the game is appealing as well. Do you give discounts for a bulk buy? I may try one of these first before dropping serious cash to outfit all my games. Loved reading your website and the videos

    #34 5 years ago

If it is close to the external sub/amp in terms of quality and volume, it’s a home run. I think at the price point you may have a bit of a challenge competing with the Flipper Fidelity upgrade (although there are clear advantages to this approach, and I don’t doubt its a superior upgrade. My un-professional recommendation would be to get some Hi-Q audio out there and maybe even some signal and frequencies analyses for comparison’s sake. This is the sort of thing that people will need to hear and feel in person to understand

    #35 5 years ago

Keep in mind that we offer the amplifier only kit. If you have an existing aftermarket (passive) subwoofer speaker, add our amp and you'll be into a whole new experience. I've done this on a few of my pins and the improvement in bass output is dramatic. For best results, we still recommend that you use our dual voice coil speaker which has excellent tonal qualities and utilizes both amplifier channels. (The aftermarket speakers I've seen are single voice coil speakers.) Thanks

    #36 5 years ago

All you have to do is make a decal with your name or logo to cover up the top of the speaker so you don't see made in China. Like pinball pro does.

    #37 5 years ago

Hello Pinsiders! I also had the opportunity to be a beta tester. I received an 8 inch kit and installed it into an original Williams Medieval Madness. Installation did take some time, but the instructions are very clear what to do along with pictures, which I feel is very helpful. Due to the troll(s) under cabinet brackets I had to modify how to install the sub woofer speaker as the original speaker location is under the troll(s) brackets and the distance is within about 1 to 2 inches between the top of the speaker and the troll brackets. I had to remove the original wood speaker bracket, which came out not too difficulty with a strong putty knife and hammer. I had to do this because of the new sub woofer height.
Again I had to deviate from the installation instructions as I was unable to use the included wood bracket that was included in the kit due again to height restrictions. I did however use the wood bracket as a template for drilling the needed hole(s) locations. I temporally mounted it to the cabinet and drilled the needed holes.
I then mounted the screws and speaker to the cabinet. Finishing with mounting the AMP and connection wires per the instructions.
As you can see from the pictures I have posted the distance between the troll(s) bracket(s) and the new sub woofer is very close, less than an inch.
After some volume adjustments, the new speaker has three different types of controls for volume. The two on the AMP (small pots you adjust with a screw driver), the volume control on the AMP and the one on the coin door itself.
Inclusion after fine tuning to your likings this speaker ROCKS! I can defiantly say once you get it for one machine, you will want to purchase more for your others as it REALLY gives you a pinball experience a new level of playing!

Great feedback @mikespinball! I'll consider having my shop cut some lower profile rings out of thinner stock. That would account for the variance term (for clearance), but still require removal of the stock stud plate (which I would rather avoid).
