I think it has been said several times throughout the years that the Who are one of those bands most rock enthusiasts like but is rarely their favorite band.
I know I enjoy when I hear their songs on occasion, but I don’t seem to hear them pop up very often in daily life like some other retired bands.

Especially on shows that normally don't have live musical entertainment.
But no excuses for SNL, they have a 40 year history of bands actually performing live. The show's audio producers do a great job with the mix.
Here is KISS from the Mike Duglas show in 1974, playing live, like real rock bands used to do:
