I’m on the fence. I don’t mind video pins, but there’s lots of room for improvement. My last full size virtual pin just didn’t do it for me. The screen should be bigger then it is to reduce those bezels. I wonder the processing power and how good it will run. Will it be hackable to add more games? (Probably not).
If these started to come out with different manufacturers would people collect them like they do with arcade1up? I doubt it.
Quoted from PinRob:Whatever, some parents allowable screen time for kids is ridiculous. There are much better ways to teach reading, math, science, shapes, and colors early. Screens are NOT the answer for advancing young brains, in fact brain scans showed that kids with lots of screen time had a premature thinning of the cortex. Take it to PM if you’d like.
My child gets less screen time then I did as a child, and I’m well adjusted for the most part, and Constructive learning can be done in many different ways.
This dose have a pretty good selection of games. But I doubt you’ll be able to add a lot of games to it, but you never know. The arcade1up machines are easier to gut and install a raspberry pi then hack the system on a chip they’re running. If these mini pinball machines run unique code on a fast enough chip then they could fix the lag issues you’d get from a slower processor. Virtual pinball physics is not the same as 8 bit video game emulation and will need something special to run well.
Unless this is just a large android tablet running farsight software, but I doubt that.
Quoted from Wolfmarsh:I might pick one of these up just to see what's inside.
I’m sure it will be dissected on YouTube.
Quoted from Yelobird:Best to just go to Walmart.com and find out as it’s a shipped item only not in store as I understand. If the site ships to your area your set.
Your American is showing. I’ve never found that Walmart.com will ship any product to Canada that walmart.ca doesn’t already sell.
One example is arcade1up machines. They don’t ship here from the states, even if your willing to pay import fees and shipping. Not just Walmart; ebay, Amazon, Best Buy, Home Depot, ect. A lot of American retailers don’t ship out of the country.
Hopefully these are distributed world wide, because if you’re lucky enough to to find an American eBay reseller willing to ship internationally, then you’ll be paying through the nose.
Again using Arcade1up as an example. Mortal Kombat was just released in Canada. Last week was the 1st time I saw any retailer advertise then, they’re $549 cdn. Two months ago when they were released in USA the only place I was able to find one that shipped here was on eBay for over $1000 cdn once you factor in dollar exchange and shipping. Really not an option.
Quoted from Yelobird:Might be American but I don’t work at Walmart so it was a simple suggestion. Seems like going to the site would only take 1 minute to answer his question. No clue on arcade1up as I have no interest nor did he ask about them?
Dont take it personally. I didnt mean to poke a finger at you directly. But quite often on pinside Americans dont understand the difficulties in international shipping. A lot of the time products are un available or shipping is more expensive then the product. I've been told umpteen number of times to just get it shipped by people who dont understand.
I went to Walmart.com. you need to put in a zip code and select local pickup in the store. So, no. Stuieb84; you wont be getting it shipped from Walmart.com to Australia, sorry. I wont be getting it here in canada either.
Quoted from LynnInDenver:I stopped following a custom pinball maker specifically because they were complaining about having to pay import taxes... and outright saying that the seller needed to break tax laws by declaring it as something else at a much lower import tax rate so that they could earn their business.
I wish I could pay import tax. These aren’t even available or shippable out side the USA.
Quoted from spfxted:Looks like there may be a few of them coming.....[quoted image][quoted image]
That teed off won’t play well with no dmd. I wonder how they will get around that?
Quoted from northvibe:So if you want a arcade 1up, could find someone to buy in the US then ship up. Mine are all full price near me :/
The arcade1up’s are slowly making their way into Canada. I did buy golden tee from a guy that brought it up from the USA. I paid $625 cdn to get it. The mortal Kombat cabinet will be the next I buy, they go for $550 new in retail here. I haven’t seen any sales on these in Canada yet. Pac-Man is still $429 at every Walmart I’ve checked.
Here’s what we deal with, with eBay sales 3AB48109-42B0-43C5-8E0C-289EEB1B3C11 (resized).pngC832699B-608E-42B0-90D6-56A2ADFA36C6 (resized).png
Quoted from northvibe:Jeez that is insane. With those prices im surprised there isn’t some underground shipping from all those $75 cabs up to Canada :-p
Yah, exactly my thought.
My guess is that it will be a grand to get one of these 3/4 size pins. Not even close to “worth it” for me.
This was my 1st pinball machine.

I got back into pinball through video pinball. I bought a rough F14 to gut for a virtual pin. Loved it too much to take apart.

So I built a virtual pin.

Had a handful of games over the years, but sold them all when I bought a house..... but then I bought NIB

Looking back, I’ve always enjoyed pinball even though I had very little exposure from ~7 to ~30 years old. Now I’m hooked for life, and it’s all from that cheap toy pinball.
Quoted from tech25:Do it properly, real cab, real leaf switches, real dmd, ( color ). everything real, except the actually pinball game itself. hahaha, oh well... hey I enjoy it, would love to compare mine to these ones.[quoted image][quoted image]
Been there, done that,. Built one from scratch 9 years ago. Sold it. But I like the idea of these mini pinball games to fit in with the arcade 1 up’s I already have.
Here’s my build VP thread
https://hyperspin-fe.com/forums/topic/2340-mortal-pinball-kombat-a-build-thread/
Quoted from Trepidus:Yeah I preordered mine played it a few times, and that was it. Sort of just a big paper weight at this time, the lag issues were too much to try and work with for me, so I hope they push out some sort of update or fix. I still haven’t herd anything about it.
I don’t know that I’m inclined to even get another one be it from a different manufacturer or not.
What I found out with building mine is that the lag can be reduced to almost nothing. You have to muck with your graphics card settings, I think the solution was reducing the number of pre rendered frames to 0. I doubt the hardware/software configuration in these will be optimized for pinball. Also The tv is a big component in lag. I researched for a quick tv and found a nice sony, but I’d assume the cheap panels that they put into these toys are slow.
So with a good machine it is possible to have close to accurate game play. If you’re just playing video pinball your brain will compensate with time and you’ll get better. But if you’re jumping back and forth between real pinball and virtual pinball, then it will never feel right.
