    Quoted from KenLayton:

What paperwork came with this game? Any schematics? What does the paperwork say about servicing the machine?

I would say not a chance. This is being marketed to the home environment. I am going to take a wild stab and say the instructions that come with it show you how to attach the head, tighten the wing nuts that secure it, how to connect the two or three cables and what the power cord looks like.

They are hideous in my opinion. I think these things are marketed to some of the very folks like on here that think their kids will enjoy playing these outside of the first day or two "new toy" novelty. Same for the 1up cabs. There is a sh!t ton of people trying to dump those 1up cabs around here already.

If Vpin is your thing, i'd say just build or buy a real Vpin. I think that makes more sense then buying this junk. just my opinion though, I don't mean to rain on anyone's parade who may be excited about these.

Dude, it's a 400 dollar toy. For what you get, this is a super deal!

Agreed. And I can already foresee these will be hacked to be able to play the entire Pinball Arcade collection on one machine. I don’t like virtual pinball enough to spend a couple grand on a game. However I wouldn’t mind having something like this to play games I don’t own.

I have the Android version of these tables on pinball arcade and the video looked horrible in comparison. The ball was way more floaty and the flipper action looked way worse. I wonder if its a really under clocked Android processor or something. Didn't look right at all. I already have a mini vpin so not the market for this but wow did it look bad in the video.

The cpu board makes it look like a super old android :/ so probably a dual or quad arm but 2gb or ram... pretty cheap and slim on specs. But with only 1 app having to run, probably just enough to handle the game

    #207 8 days ago

This thing needed a bigger playfield screen

    #208 8 days ago

Pretty cool and neat my favorite 3 tables Black hole,Big shot, and Haunted house.Only thing I don’t like is the backbox translight pic doesn’t change to other games being played.Black hole back box spinning disk would be missing.I’ll wait till they show some gameplay vids with the sounds, bells and whistles then decide if worth purchasing.

    #209 8 days ago

It's good idea but for the price it don't seem worth it. If have bigger screen (way less ugly bezel) and back box screen it would be nice deal.

not that lamer that can’t pronounce “Gottlieb”:

Haha!! He loves pinball but Can’t pronounce the name Gottlieb that tells me he’s not a true pinhead.Heck,Black hole was way ahead of its time lower and upper playfield getting multi ball is a blast with balls playing on upper and lower playfields at the same time is truly a blast with a hard ass challenge.First .50 cent game breaking records,This dude in the vid needs to play these pins first and realize Gottlieb was KING back in those days.

Well, he also doesn't realize that there are some classic tables on this device... Blackhole, HH sure... But, Centigrade and TX Sector are very popular. Could the selection be better... Sure... They could have a Genie(within their rights to use, and I bet will have a Genie model, if it proves popular).
And watching the one review posted. I think the gameplay will be more than fine. He mentioned that the ball in the video was worse than in person. So I think I'll enjoy my model when it comes in.

I know its not this threads topic. But, I think one of the reasons why Gottlieb went under. They just couldn't get the right themes licensed or unlicensed and I think their DMD guys just weren't as good as the Bally/Williams guys.Look at the themes Gottlieb did from the late 80s to when they stopped making pins... Just seem to be mostly a tier or two under what was being done. Their model did well enough for a long time... Now, that's not the only reason. But, I think it factors into play. Because, people may hate the raven theme, but it plays pretty good(and stacks up to what/where the other pins where at that time).

I like the idea of these and think the price is ok but I just can't see past that HUGE bezel Daaaaaamnn that is thick. If you could install a much larger screen it would be far more appealing.

    #213 8 days ago

A review was just posted to youtube:

    #214 8 days ago
    Quoted from Hayfarmer:

I'd paint or powder coat the frame green to match rest of game, assuming its metal.

I was thinking the same: paint or powder coat... my choice would be black. It would make the game look soooo much more attractive, by down sizing the gray/silver playfield frame.

Edit: I didn't watch the video review above my post, until after I posted it. He too thought the playfield bezel would look better with a different color than silver.

    #215 8 days ago

if someone on here gets one that can flip well please give feedback. he was dual flipping a lot and not really trying to play.
Give it a real play test please.

ball also appears to move in slow motion not quite the full speed it does in the usual app? maybe the cpu is just slightly under powered for this.

Toy Shock is the only one building a $400 pin and surely many compromises were made. They are not trying to appeal to a Pinball collector who wants upgrades. Screen size was probably the first thing they figured out. This undoubtedly requires material to be purchased in bulk and for the end result to be one simple product ie all the same. They probably did some market research to pick $400 as the point that people are willing to spend money on entertainment. To that end, if they were to increase screen size and offer upgrades, they wouldn’t be able to hit the target numbers. Keep in mind, the large bezel may be required to provide structural integrity.

Working backwards and considering hypothetical unit costs ...$400 price - $75 profit - $25 design, marketing and customer service - $25 license - $25 transportation = $250 cost of goods. Not easy to manufacture the entire kits for that bill of material when a full size wood cabinet costs $1k.

Yeah i understand this is not marketed at us but would of been cool if had more a pinball shape to it. Id probably of just gone with a smaller cabinet maybe if that was the screen they wanted. This way the back box could extend over the smaller cabinet like a real machine.

But who cares long as they sell!

I just watched the vid, and then opened going nuts in pinball arcade on my galaxy tab.
It is defenitly mutch better on my tablet!
The ball seems floaty and lacking speed or gravity in that video.

Yeah I have always believed the magic number was $500, but I won’t be buying one either. It needs a bigger screen to capture and keep my attention and it sounds like the CPU might be maxed out. Their low cost, Volkswagen Beetle approach will be a great one to watch. These are not sold on Amazon yet, but should they appear in the future for $400 with free shipping, they’d reach another audience.

    #221 8 days ago

The only good thing about it is it’s pretty cool just to have it for the love of the pin hobby in your game room. When it comes to pinball physics is a huge factor and a screen is not the same feel.

Hopefully I'll get mine on the 6th... Some orders were pushed back... We'll see. But, once I get mine I'll write a review here. No video, as I only have a crappy tablet. But, I'll post a nice review. You all know I talk/type too much, so it'll be thorough.

    #223 8 days ago

Allot of people are commenting about the ball looking floaty in the review video. It does look floaty in the video but Pdubs stated in the video that his camera was less than 60fps. And the camera was makong the ball appear floaty when in person it did not look that way. So im willing to bet it looks and plays similar to the Pinball Arcade app which the ball moves somewhat realistic.

    #224 8 days ago

Yeah, overall everything so far is verifying what I figured was going to be the case; I'm outside the target market, but then, I am one of the VPin nuts who's built her own cabinet, and that does make this look so much more like a toy.

Technically, we're in the same boat (mostly) with Arcade1Up, as I build a MAME cabinet for four players, and the only reason we even have one Arcade1Up in our house is that it's Star Wars.

Best to just go to Walmart.com and find out as it’s a shipped item only not in store as I understand. If the site ships to your area your set.

Your American is showing. I’ve never found that Walmart.com will ship any product to Canada that walmart.ca doesn’t already sell.

One example is arcade1up machines. They don’t ship here from the states, even if your willing to pay import fees and shipping. Not just Walmart; ebay, Amazon, Best Buy, Home Depot, ect. A lot of American retailers don’t ship out of the country.

Hopefully these are distributed world wide, because if you’re lucky enough to to find an American eBay reseller willing to ship internationally, then you’ll be paying through the nose.

Again using Arcade1up as an example. Mortal Kombat was just released in Canada. Last week was the 1st time I saw any retailer advertise then, they’re $549 cdn. Two months ago when they were released in USA the only place I was able to find one that shipped here was on eBay for over $1000 cdn once you factor in dollar exchange and shipping. Really not an option.

Might be American but I don’t work at Walmart so it was a simple suggestion. Seems like going to the site would only take 1 minute to answer his question. No clue on arcade1up as I have no interest nor did he ask about them?

Dont take it personally. I didnt mean to poke a finger at you directly. But quite often on pinside Americans dont understand the difficulties in international shipping. A lot of the time products are un available or shipping is more expensive then the product. I've been told umpteen number of times to just get it shipped by people who dont understand.

I went to Walmart.com. you need to put in a zip code and select local pickup in the store. So, no. Stuieb84; you wont be getting it shipped from Walmart.com to Australia, sorry. I wont be getting it here in canada either.

Not bad for less than the cost of a topper

    #231 7 days ago

Jeff it's probably far less than $250 COG. Good rule of thumb is "retail divided by 3“. (something to keep in mind when looking at a $50 bargain drill at Harbor Freight)

They probably had a minimum device size in mind and chose the closest mass-market (aka cheap) LCD to fit, hence the giant bezel.

    #232 7 days ago

I was told here was about 650 units made and Walmart plans to drop ship only. Regardless of what walmart. com says, they are all pre-sold.

Not sure where you got this, but I would dispute it.

Walmart's gross margin is under 25%
& most retailers I know use a keystone markup which is a 50% margin

Distributor + retailer + manufacture need to all make a profit. 1/3 the cost is a good rule of thumb. Been there done that with bb and Walmart and they love cutting in you margins

Correct Walmart sells on slim margins and expect the same from their vendors

All about dat money! The stuff at big box shops is getting to cheap and crappy for me, I’d started buying old or quality parts so I don’t have to replace them. Now some things i still go cheap if it’s a one time use or breakable but meh. I’d rather buy once and fix

Yes, because American's never order anything international..give me a break..WTF?

    #238 6 days ago

The main reason I have issues with shipping internationally are the other countries taxing. When I ship to Canada, fedex and ups allow tax so the buyer gets upset, shipping usps gets most things through without issue. But when shipping to Asia or UK same issues, taxes and importing fees. There is a reason many people dislike shipping to those places, the people in those countries either need to understand and pay the extra or they get upset...why deal with it?

The 30 minute review video earlier in the thread gives some detail for those interested and another one was just released that shows what they do with alphanumeric or DMD displays (since they can't display them on the backbox) - they show a HUD at the top of the playfield glass. Not on youtube only on facebook but here it his if you want to see it.

I stopped following a custom pinball maker specifically because they were complaining about having to pay import taxes... and outright saying that the seller needed to break tax laws by declaring it as something else at a much lower import tax rate so that they could earn their business.

I wish I could pay import tax. These aren’t even available or shippable out side the USA.
