Does anyone have experience installing the aftermarket neon transformer used in the SWE I light saber or CV neon ramp?
I have Cirqus Voltaire (CV) and the neon stopped working. I read about the normal causes, ran the flasher test with no luck and also have 10V under test at the connector to the transformer. I have tried unregulated 12V and external battery to the neon transformer without illumination. I even tried a NOS driver board to rule out a bad U3 chip etc and no luck. I have found the appropriate aftermarket transformer, my question is since it is not a direct plug and play installation are there any concerns or wrong way to cut the wires, insulate the connections etc since the output from that transformer to the neon tube is 1500volts.
    Any advice is appreciated:.)

Transformer should fix the neon. I replaced mine in my Cirqus Voltaire a few years back. Sorry I can't be too specific in what was involved as I don't remember all what was involved, but it was very easy. You have to drill out the rivets to disassemble the ramp to get to the transformer and wiring, then simply cut wiring, add new transformer just by splicing the wires into the neon and connector wiring and use heat shrink tubing to cover the connections. I believe that's all I did and it's still working fine but it's been years ago. May want to use 3 or 4 layers of heat shrink on the high voltage wires if you feel the need for more security in a good insulated connection. Note how the wiring is more or less pressed in under the neon tube so you don't see it and do the same before riveting the ramp back together.

sounds like you have tried pretty much everything

I did this if you buy the one recommended here it has one wire in the harness marked so that you can match it up but you will have to cut, splice, solder the existing connector from your game

    Guys thanks for the replies,
The aftermarket transformer that is listed as a replacement is made by ventextech model VT1510-12. I haven’t gotten the part just yet it is on it’s way to my local distributor just wanted to have an idea about the install.

Just in case someone else has this problem, the aftermarket transformer works perfectly. I used a dremel tool to remove the two back rivets on the clear ramp case. This allowed easy access to get to the old transformer and remove it. The red insulated wires to the neon have no polarity and no concern for orientation. Due to the high voltage, I used 3 pieces of 600v heat shrink overlapping to cover the soldered/spliced wires. There are two wings on the transformer that need to be cut off to allow it to sit in the case. The 12V wiring that runs to the transformer has a adapter that needs to be removed. Polarity does matter here. The insulated small black wire that has grey and dashes is the ground, the solid black is the (+) connection. I cut and spliced the connector with the red and black 12v connector to these wires and made sure it worked using an external 12 volt supply. Last step was using two size 8 screws and nuts to secure the housing where rivets were removed.

You sure the tube is good? If I missed it apologies but the neon tube might have leaked the gas out of it.

Anyone that has neon signs or neon in their machines a good cheap tool to have is a neon tester ....

    ebay.com link: itm

Simply touch the antenna to the neon tube, press the button and if the tube lights up then the tube is good.
