Paid a visit to the TNT crew with Mermink
    We had a great time!
I finally beat down Todd enough and bought some Neon from him!

Kate convinced me to get this one over the “1¢ Candy” signimage.jpgimage.jpg
Now I’m gonna hang this up and leave it on 24/7. Never turn off any of my other signs down here. Maybe I’m misinformed but that should be perfectly fine and not detrimental to the sign, correct?

Also scored this unusual “salesman sample” display piece. It’s handmade.

This picture is from 2020 and it was very bright and vibrant up on a shelf in the office. Now it’s very dim and the amber tube keeps going in and out. The Purple Green Pink & Blue are all one solid tube, then it daisy chains over to the amber and red tube. The red is the brightest, and the amber blinks on and off. If you put your hand near it or put the power cord near it the tube lights up. image.jpgimage.jpg
Zero knowledge on Neon. What is the issue and how can I fix it?
D9A78360-B87F-4DB9-AD6A-41EDA54E0107.jpegD9A78360-B87F-4DB9-AD6A-41EDA54E0107.jpeg it looks bright but even in 100% darkness it’s very dim. Like your phone with the brightness all the way down.

My last question is this strange bulb:image.jpgimage.jpg
It hasn’t worked for a long long time. Not sure if the tube leaked or if it’s got an internal transformer of some sort. It has a switch that says “flow/on”
Any idea what it is and where I can buy a replacement or how to fix it?

I have 3 or 4 other broken Neon signs I’ve inherited or picked up in my travels. I’d like to get them fixed later. Are there any neon repair places in Upstate New York?

    Quoted from northvibe:

Is the “Chinese”/alibaba stern pinball neon the only/best one available? Looking to throw a neon at the route location

    That’s a great idea, following!

Did DE ever make a sign? Because I mainly route those. Rock solid games!

    Quoted from BJM-Maxx:

I have a few neon signs in my game room like everybody in this thread. But I really wanted an actual neon sign. In fact I am not sure I have actually seen one in this whole thread. Most of what we call neon are actually florescent tubes with phosphors on the inside which is what creates the glow. I picked up this sign a couple of years ago, the tube is clear, the gas is actual neon, viewed up close you can see the glow is inside the glass. Now I want to find an argon sign somewhere.[quoted image][quoted image]

There have been plenty of true neon signs posted, and plenty of argon signs posted. Argon gives off a ton of ultraviolet light which reacts with the phosphor coatings to give such vibrant colors. Just because it’s no relying on the bare red color of neon without any modifiers, doesn’t mean it’s not a true neon/argon/noble gas sign.

New neon! This came out Nick’s Gas in Lyndonville, Vermont. It’s from back when Farrel the Budweiser Distro had the Monster distribution rights. It’s a really neat sign, great shape, looks beautiful!

It was in the store till 3 years ago and I just bought it from a guy who had it in his basement bar.

Really stoked, love this sign, looks great!

There was one of these in my school cafeteria, WOW. Really brings back some odd memories.

I was at PAX East over the weekend and I picked up some very cool “mini” Neon at one of the booths. It’s that super tiny gauge stuff, pretty sure it’s Chinese, kinda dim, but 100% real and I enjoyed that they made very niche designs. Here’s what I picked up!

    For the uninitiated we have:

Got some new glow this week "Do the Dew" to go with the old
Also some different noble gas glow that is cool as well

That Mountain Dew sign is sick, where’d you get it?!? Is that a modern sign or vintage?

    Quoted from ZooDude:

Responded to a craigslist ad that said, "Liquidating collection!" Listed pins, jukes, neon, fortune tellers, clocks, gas pumps.
Dude had tons and I mean tons of neon, said he was in the neon business for 40 years, unbelievable collection, but this guy did not want to sell anything, he asked top market prices and above for everything. He wants $100 K for this neon! It may be one of the coolest I've ever seen, way out of my price range for sure. Love the "web" style lettering, never seen that before.
Dude is in Martinez CA if anyone has a hole burning through to their pocket!

I’m firmly convinced that guys like this are really just looking for like-minded friends. Befriend the dude, he seems pretty cool. After some time, I bet he’d be interested in selling. I’ve met some awesome pals under similar circumstances

Bought Alien Star 2 weeks ago at an estate sale (downsizing) and on the way down to their incredible basement they had this sign hanging. I bundled it in with my new pin!

This thing is awesome. Apparently BS is the couple’s initials, but no word on if this was custom or just coincidence since they were big-time gamblers. They had a MASSIVE full-sized craps table. I woulda bought it if I had space. (If someone crazy here is interested I can give you their info) 586E5A37-A2ED-48DF-A5A4-8A7019824AEC.jpeg586E5A37-A2ED-48DF-A5A4-8A7019824AEC.jpeg7F196537-679E-4E90-82A3-BFDB91A08B5A.jpeg7F196537-679E-4E90-82A3-BFDB91A08B5A.jpeg

You simply cannot beat the beautiful glow of vintage neon. The purple and white has such a great color in person.

    Quoted from Dayhuff:

Or they could test it with a neon tube tester. I keep one in my truck for just such emergency in case I come across one at an auction or some place.
    John

Only on Pinside would you read about someone always having a neon tube tester in case of emergency purchase

    Quoted from Gotpins:

I found this one. I think it’s “melt your face off” awesome. My wife thinks it’s “dumb”. What do you guys think? This link shows one in action since I can’t post a video.
    [quoted image]

    Brain Stew! Nice choice.

Just picked up one of those nifty Neon Cicena “Rhonda” Phones. The seller stated many times that it was purple… in what world is this purple? IMG_8601.jpegIMG_8601.jpeg

It was cheap! My grandmother loves it and said she had always wanted one back in the 90s; her friend had one. Guess it’s hers now… (wish we had the shrug emoji!)
