The Art Deco era, MGM movie/music industry theme and scarcity of this item push this past a $400 figure. I agree with ROLLINOVERS assessment regarding auction value. Never seen another sign like this before. I paid $295 for this 1950’s NOS Dickies sign and felt like I got a bargain. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Additional photos, including original box the Dickies clothing sign was packed and sent in. Doesn’t get much better than that.

Here is another lighted sign I have from Art Deco era. This was taken from a movie theatre in NY state.

A couple more pics. A NOS Brunswick Max Pin in the original shipping box and a Blue Bell Ice Cream neon. The Blue Bell Ice Cream neon signs were only awarded to large retail sellers by Blue Bell Creameries and not available via public sale.

    CyberNinja24,
I just received an estimated valuation on the MGM records from a renowned expert, Lloyd Thoburn, from Coinopwarehouse. See below facebook message conversation:

My request: "Lloyd, would you lend your expertise and give an estimated retail value of this NOS 1948 Dickies sign with original shipping box and the MGM Records sign lighting. Thanks in advance for your reply.

Lloyd's response: "MGM personally, I think about a grand and Dickies around $500 to $700. I’d love to get the MGM. I know where another one is. Guys dad had a record shop and he got it out of the attic in the box.

    John,
Your valuation is obviously flawed and nowhere near accurate on these items.

"I guess so, because I think you got robbed spending $300 on a $100 at best sign".

    Cheers,

    Chuck

    Jimmy (CiberNinja24),

If this MGM Records lighted sign was listed on Lloyd’s Coinopwarehouse Facebook page, he would have no problem selling this within the hour for $1K. He has a huge following audience across the US and overseas in the Coinop and anything vintage/antique scene from his warehouse locations in Hagerstown, MD. If this was taken to auction, the seller would have to pay a commissions fee. A fair valuation between the two of you, would be between $700 - $850. I hope you are able to purchase this relic. My wife and I collect vintage movie theatre items and this would definitely have a place in our home. I would have no reservations dropping $1k for this RARE Art Deco masterpiece.

    meSez,

I have had the privilege to conduct business with Lloyd on several transactions as well. His prices move product, be it in the US or overseas. The antique/vintage market in Texas is WAYYYYY overpriced. I normally have to venture out of state to find good/fair deals.

I met my wife while I was stationed at Ft. Meade, MD while working at NSA. She has family in the area and we visit often. He is very fair on most of his offerings. There are times as you have noted, that his price is met by high end clientele. He finds unusual or highly sought after relics on a weekly basis because of his business acumen, longevity, and client list. Now his son, Ben, has branched out and established his own business, Coinop Amusements. His entire family is very amicable and an asset to the Coinop and collectibles market.

Check out this Texas Bucket List item hemihideout.com if you enjoy Muscle cars and neon. I had the pleasure of visiting this palatial destination with my sister and brother-in-law during a Corvette group meet and greet. John Hovas is a down to earth and approachable owner. His building is second to none. Enjoy
