    I like the Margarita sign.
Especially with the old school Jose’ Cuervo shout out. Many a hangover with JC before I knew it wasn’t real tequila!

    #1456 2 years ago
    Quoted from dirkdiggler:

Nice! I was going to bid on a blue moon neon last week but the auction company pulled the lot. Wasn't as nice as yours. Never heard of blue moon before.

You’ve never heard of blue moon beer?

It’s not as popular as it was 10+ years ago but man it was a big deal.

    #1457 2 years ago
    Quoted from TheDarkKnight68:

    [quoted image][quoted image]

For a non neon sign that BUSCH one is decent looking.

    #1458 2 years ago
    Quoted from PhilGreg:

In Canada they renamed it Belgian Moon. I guess it helps people figure out what type of beer they're getting, plus Labatt Blue was huge and has fallen out of favor, maybe they don't want people to think they're related.

What’s the background on why Labatt Blue has fallen out of favor?

    #1459 2 years ago
    Quoted from Blitzburgh99:

What’s the background on why Labatt Blue has fallen out of favor?

I can't remember the last time I even saw a case of Labatts Blue. Out west here it's their (Labatts) other brews that are popular. Budweiser, Bud Light, Rolling Rock, Alexander Keith's IPAs, Guinness. Labatts genuine draft used to be popular also but can't remember the last time I saw it either.

I have a lightup corner sign with strobing leds in the extra letters.

    [quoted image][quoted image]

Wow the Boulevard and Bud are beautiful.

    Quoted from Blitzburgh99:

What’s the background on why Labatt Blue has fallen out of favor?

No particular reason - almost all of the big industrial-type beers that were huge in the 80s-90s have lost considerable market share to craft-type beers (the beer companies aren't stupid either, they just bought a lot of the bigger and better craft breweries) and although some of them are still hanging in there (Coors Light for example still popular in Quebec, Labatt's 50 had a retro-inspired comeback, etc.), most of them are almost dead now.
Labatt's Blue was always one of the worst tasting IMO.

Back in my early 20s when we used to go out in bars the two go-to beers were Molson Export and Labatt's Blue, and you were either a Molson Ex guy or a Blue guy

All this makes me think of an interesting documentary I saw a while back about the beer industry in the US: Beer Wars (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1326194/)
The industry has changed so much in the last decade, I'm not sure how relevant it still is, but a good watch as far as I remember.

    Quoted from dirkdiggler:

Out west here it's their (Labatts) other brews that are popular. ….., Rolling Rock…
    [quoted image][quoted image]

Rolling Rock? I grew up about 30 minutes from Latrobe, PA, where the original “glass lined tanks” brewed it. That’s about all we drank in high school/college. They sold cases of 7 ounce painted bottles (yes, the bottles were painted, not wrapped in a decal) in cases of 42 bottles that were called “Super 42s”. We would get a few of those, fill up a plastic trash can with ice and water, and put those little bottles in. We would play euchre and gamble all night long crushing these 7 ounce bottles that were ice cold. Soooo good!

And then they sold to Anheuser Busch, they shut down the original plant, and moved production to New Jersey. Beer started tasting like shit. AB ruined the flavor and made it a chic yuppy beer through marketing. My friends and I, and everyone else in Western PA, have long since stopped drinking it. A few years later, I saw some reports that AB was trying to sell the Rolling Rock brand off because sales plummeted so hard. Ask anyone from Latrobe/Pittsburgh about Rolling Rock and they will tell you it’s terrible now, and probably get a “eff AB” comment along with it.

I’ve picked up a six pack here and there over the years for old times sake…I usually drink half a bottle and throw out the rest. I don’t even waste my money now. To see that it’s popular in Canada has me questioning two things: 1) as much as Canadians are known for their great taste in beer, maybe that’s not true, or 2) AB is producing the original recipe specs in glass lined tanks with good Canadian water instead of crap New Jersey water these days. I hope it’s the latter!

Anywho…I am shocked to see that Rolling Rock is popular in Canada.

I took these pictures at the Neon Museum in Las Vegas, which I highly recommend if you haven't been.
    [quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

I went for the first time to the neon sign museum back in 2005 when you had to make reservations to go to the "bone yard". None of the signs were lit at that point. I am so glad that this place exists! We will be going back to Las Vegas this April and will check out the museum once again.

I totally agree with this Blitzburgh99 I stopped buying it also after the change. They’re now brewing Iron city and others at Latrobe now which is about to change also. If you remember the old PPG plant in Crighton/ Tarentum area this will be the new Pittsburgh brewery.

I'm Molson over Labbats all day. I've never had rolling rock, just saw it on their website. Think they brew Corona as well. If you even call Corona beer. Yuk. Lots of our friends like Bud Light but i need to pound like 8 or 9 to get a buzz going. Haha

I agree that beer tastes different from the water in different Provinces or States. I find Labbats products have a metallic taste to my palette. I drink mostly Great Western brewery products brewed here in Saskatchewan these days.

Yeah the new brewery is to open this year. Good to see that Iron City will once again be brewed by Pittsburgh Brewing and not be a contracted beer anymore.

I have never seen a collection where I didn't want one sign out of the lot! OK maybe the Nebraska one would be neat.

Thanks for posting though DK as it's always nice to see what's out there!

Here are my superhero ones. As I far as I know, these were only sent to comic book stores. So I had to hunt them down 1 by 1. Most places would not sell them to me. I had to fly out to LA to get the Green Lantern one, and it broke during transit.

Bummer. I had a neon break recently in transit in a few different spots. Hopefully yours is fixable. Mine might not be cost effective.

What's the arcade neon beside it?

    #1478 2 years ago

I currently have Batman. I’ve had it a few years. I bought it after I saw it on Big Bang Theory! I ordered a Superman a week or so ago. They are both from Fanfit Gaming. I have my eye on a couple more.

What did you do with the JJP neon Lloyd? Love to have it!

I took it down upon hearing the news. I have storage space in Hopkins, I hauled it over there for now. I haven't decided what to do with it yet. It's one of the ones jack had made years ago. Probably the only thing that saved it from the dumpster.

Several people have inquired about buying it. I just put it and the box they sent me on January 7th in the back of my mind for now. Not in any hurry. Just seeing them brings up memories.

I'm more concerned with getting a CGC sign for the window to replace it.

Not exactly neon, I saw one of these signs a few weeks ago. I’d like to do something similar for a retail store of mine. Does anyone know of someone that specializes in these? I suppose I could go to a local sign company. Each row lights up from bottom to top with a second delay between each row lighting.

    Quoted from jp1985:

Not exactly neon, I saw one of these signs a few weeks ago. I’d like to do something similar for a retail store of mine. Does anyone know of someone that specializes in these? I suppose I could go to a local sign company. Each row lights up from bottom to top with a second delay between each row lighting.

Local sign company should be able to help you. You can also reach out to any of the neon sign companies as most make LED signs. Some, like everbrite, ceased making neon all together and switched over to LED.

    Quoted from LTG:

I've got a pretty good assortment now. There have been some game changes since when these pictures were taken. And the green frame around the jjp neon died, it's gone. The jjp neon has been removed too.
