    Maybe someone like the Neon Shop could make one?

    Hi Backyardace (and anyone else interested),

    I just showed your post to Josh Goodacre (The Neon Shop) and he said to let you know that anything is possible.

    In related news, I just finished designing lenticular business cards for The Neon Shop...sooo...I'll just leave this right here:

    There are no markings or stickers on it.
    This was what I found after searching online.
    I forgot about the tag but remember it after seeing the pic.
    Bought mine in the late 1990’s from a pool table/game room store that also sold ....pinball machines.
    I think it was $100 which I thought was expensive for the size but I’m glad I bought it.[quoted image][quoted image]

    I really think somebody made that. You can get the Godzilla figure on Ebay by it's self. I'm going to make one .

    Here’s a newer option... 12” tall. If you guys look into this hit me up, I’d likely be interested https://www.amazon.com/DIS56557-55-Giant-Eyeball-Mask/dp/B01KG44V8Q/ref=sxbs_sxwds-stvp

    Flex RGB LED NEON in the stairwell, makes all the posters and art look funky

    Not necessarily a sign, but folks are making signs with this method and they look pretty good

    The Yuengling sign I bought after a tour of the old brewery in Pottsville pa in the mid 1990’s. Dick Yuengling carried it out to my truck which was pretty cool.
    I also picked up Godzilla and the fosters neons in the late 90’s.[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

    LOVE that Godzilla neon! Would love yo find one some day. Ever sell, PLEASE LMK

    Here's a couple that my wife had made for me. Obviously, one is in the pinball area, the other in my pool room. The pinball sign is animated by computer. The Pinball Palace part has about 8 different modes, and if you plug the sign into a music source, it well keep beat to the music.

    Someone previously used this sign as a table to spray paint stuff on. It cleaned up nice. Love the 70s vibe. Enjoy

    I have a couple neon beer signs in my garage/game room. I usually leave them on 24/7, as I enjoy the lighting and ambiance they provide.

    Question: should I be concerned with any overheating or fire hazard issue by leaving them on 24/7?

    Good question! I just started researching neon signs and I'm getting mixed information. One manufacturer claimed that always leaving them on insured that the transformer would last longer. The constant turning them on and off was hard on the transformer. Plus they said heat was not an issue when being constantly on.
    I'm not sure if either of these statements are true,so I'm curious to see what neon sign owners have to say.

    #862 3 years ago

    I would be concerned about it. I had a big NY yankees neon sign that somehow got a tiny crack where the wire entered the tube and it arched and cought the plywood on fire that it was hanging on. I was there when it happened so no damage except for the sign. If I was not there it could have been much worse.

    Let me ask you this, would you leave your car running 24/7?

    Quoted from Dayhuff:

    Let me ask you this, would you leave your car running 24/7?

    No, that is not even the same comparison.

    I see many neon signs thru out the city, that are on 24/7. Not to mention, what about the 10,000's of neon sign / clocks that have been running 24/7 for decades?

    #865 3 years ago

    To put neon signs in perspective, my son works in Nevada at a large casino-resort. Building is 20+ years old with lots of internal and external neon connected to enclosed, commercial transformers.

    When the closing order came down, building engineering kept all neon lit until they could analyze the age of the transformers. All of the original, 20+ year old transformers are remaining powered while the ones that are ten years old or newer have been powered down. Their experience is that once cooled down, the older ones have a tendency to fail when powered back up. Sometimes in a spectacular fashion.

    To be fair, these are large neon tubes with long runs. Mainly 100-500' each. Different than the self contained signs we have in our game rooms.

    Why not? Ok, then do you leave your pinball machines on 24/7? Just because some one jumps off a bridge are you going to jump too?

    This is completely accurate. Turning neon signs on and off is actually worse then leaving them on all the time. Neon signs are a gas so every time you turn it on the power supply needs to energize the electrons in the tube to get them flowing again. To do this the ppower supply needs to generate a lot of power/electricity. This is wear on the power supply.

    Heat is not an issue as there's no filament in the sign tube like that of a light bulb.

    OK... I think I've answered my own question and wanted to share it you neon pinheads. In the past 4-5 hours, I sent a generic email to over a dozen neon beer sign companies as follows:

    Hello... I'm interested in your neon sign.

    I have a beautiful "man cave" game room / garage with (20) pinball's, (5) video games, Harley Davidson and Music! I'm looking to place several nice neon signs on the walls.

    Question: Is it safe for me to leave the neon sign on 24/7? I love the light & ambiance, but don't want to switch them off every night.

    Let me know.
    Thank You!
    Kerry

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    I've rec'vd many responses like;
    Yes very safe
    Most bars & restaurants leave them on 24/7
    Safe, no problem
    Better for transformer not to be turned on/off daily
    One guy said: he didn't know
    Yes, better for the transformer and switch, to leave it on
    Definitely fine to leave on however, may shorten the light of neon sign tho, from 10-15 years, down to 5ish
    So there you go, the decision is yours. Great info and thanks for sharing.
    This might have been discussed already in this thread, but almost at 1k posts..... prob not going to read them all.
    Where/how can you learn neon sign making?
    A few years back I picked all the neon signs off the wall at an arcade in southern Illinois that closed. I think it was in a town called Marion if I remember right....
    And then I came across a few closed arcade signs at one of those old Super Auctions.......
    And got a couple of the storefront signs from an operator I purchased quite a few games from, American Amusements.
    The failure of any electronic component can be measured in heat vs. time.
    Neon signs use an arc - at startup, the current draw is much larger to form the arc, then tapers off quickly. It's the startup that puts the "miles" on the ballast.
    Other devices are not subject to that great of a startup surge. Power supplies have to charge large capacitors (which are technically shorted until they charge) but overall, not as much of a concern.
    Leaving neon signs on full time definitely puts less stress on the supply but that doesn't mean you should leave your machines on full time. If you do, you're back to the heat vs. time scenario.
    Hi I'm interested in these two Signs.The first sign he's asking 175.00 obo.
    Are the lights on this sign okay,they seem a little dim to me.
    I really.like the second sign because the colors are more vibrant to me,the seller has accepted 80.00 for the sign.
    Does this seem to be a fair price?
    Thanks in advance
    175$ is for both signs? If so that's not a bad price.
    Hard to tell, picture isn't clear, but appears that there's no burn on the tubes and the gas has just settled. Willing to bet if you did a "mercury roll" on that sign the colors would brighten back up.
    (Note: go back to post 739 on this topic as it's listed there on how to perform a mercury roll, easy to do).
    I don't think that second sign is Neon. It is plastic molded to look like neon. Justdo't want you to be disappointed if you were looking for a "real" neon sign.
    Well I bounced back after the disappointment of missing out on the fake Moosehead neon sign. I had mixed emotions about buying a neon sign that advertised cigarettes,but I'm glad I bought it. It's been a long time since I quit smoking,and when I smoked, Marlboro was my brand.
    I had 6 or so of those Marlboro signs, more of the ones that were completely encapsulated in a plastic housing. The were really nice neon signs. Bought them for 25$ each. Few years later they sold for $40 and it took me over a year to sell them.
    Maybe I found my nich. If cigarettes signs are the red headed step child of neon collectors,I'll grab as many as I can. Now I gotta find a Camel Joe for sale.
    Anyone know what it costs to have a sign made? I would love to get her something Jaws related like maybe a shark eating a pin or something or the eating the word arcade but the shark needs to look decent of course.     It was odd with cig neon signs....they used to be sought after and once the govt made it illegal for tobacco companies to advertise the prices dropped dramatically. I have accounts with neon manufacturers and they aren't even allowed to sell replacement parts that are related to tobacco.
    Buy all you can now and who knows maybe some day they'll be in demand!
    Several variables to this as it depends on the number of bends tubes have, how many colors you want, how big of a sign and do you want a local neon place to make it or you going to use one of those China makers?
    Hi Guys:
    Just wanted to show off my neon!
    I managed to find this neon sign NIB and, originally, the bottom line read 'Ft. Lauderdale', in white.
    Fortunately for me, the bottom line was a separate piece of neon, so it was easy to disconnect and remove.
    I then contacted the company that made these for Heineken. They are a big company, so I was very surprised when they agreed to make me a custom bottom line reading 'Roger's Arcade', at a very reasonable price.
    Of course, a picture can never show the true beauty of a neon sign and the colors are particularly weak on this picture. The left-hand sail is a beautiful shade of pink and the 'Roger's Arcade' line is a gorgeous turquoise. All the shading you see on various lines are not seen when looking at the actual neon. Probably my poor quality camera!
    With the sun, palm tree, ocean and sailboat, it's a perfect neon for my game room in Florida.
    Thanks for looking.
    A lot of breweries (esp. Bud and Heineken) made a lot of "personal" neon signs. Typically the bottom of the neon was a one piece tube that allowed the local Wholesaler to have them personalized. They would put a city name, location or the name of a pub. Here are a few examples ...
    Quoted from ralphs007:
    Maybe I found my nich. If cigarettes signs are the red headed step child of neon collectors,I'll grab as many as I can. Now I gotta find a Camel Joe for sale.
    Damn, I found this " Camel Joe" but the seller is 106 miles away. I asked him if he'd meet me halfway. Not getting my hopes up,but I gave it a shot.
    Interesting.... I never knew that..
    I guess, with my neon, they would make a few hundred (or more) with a custom bottom line, for each major town/city in Florida.
    What pleased me the most was that the original manufacturer was prepared to make a single line for me. The charge was $100 which, for a one off custom line from a major sign manufacturer, struck me as very reasonable!
    Thanks for posting...
    If I were to guess you went to Neon Tech?
    Yeah basically the Wholesaler would advise as to what they wanted on the neon. In your case they went with the city so the Wholesaler would advise the neon manufacturer to make X number of neons with that city name on it. Wholesalers would also have special signs made for Pubs, Beer Dist. etc. with the name of the establishment on it. The money they throw into POS items is crazy!
    Below is an example of a personalized neon clock that a Wholesaler had made up (This was an example provided thus the clock mech is not installed and the neon is not turned on)...
    I saw this neon for sale and the seller wants $90.00. I've seen it everywhere, so I don't think it's really rare. Is this worth 90.00?
    Thanks in advance
    Ralph
