Need Hulk or Sys1 Light Panel!! Also making a new one

Added: 2019-12-22 15:45:54 UTC • Ended: January 20th, 2020

Price

Wanted

Picked up a Gottlieb Hulk last week, light panel has some slight water damage and resulting swelling. Anybody have one for a Hulk laying around, or any other System 1 game?

Any help would be appreciated, before I’m left with stripping this one and cutting a new one from wood.

good luck. My Hulk was the same way, stripped it and cut a new one. Nice looking game, i enjoy mine very much, plays so different without the slings.

Yeah, I’m thinking I might have to cut a new one. Probably better off having a wood one anyway, not this MDF crap.

This is my fourth Hulk, last one was pretty much fully restored. Shouldn’t have sold that one. It’s a cool game, the kickouts instead of slings definitely changes play up.

Another game with awesome artwork, especially the cabinet. Just nice to stare at.

I really enjoy watching what you do with your pins, all the powder coating and such, look forward to seeing what you do with Hulk.

In addition to minor touch-up (mostly black keylines) and clear the playfield I went black theme, black rails, rubbers and post caps. I think it turned out nice. contemplated doing black powder on the rails and lockbar as well but didn't get to that.

Looks good! I like the black rubbers. I’m contemplating going with a green and yellow mix to brighten it up a little. I’ll see what I come up with, and probably create a kit on Titan’s site like I did for Superman.

Thanks...appreciate that. Should be picking up the playfield for Spidey this coming week, so I’ll be getting back to that one.

Not sure on the powdercoat for Hulk yet, but ironically I was just thinking gloss black would look awesome. I like light green to match the cab...but that might be a bit too much.

I have some serious OCD issues. Frame was banged up and a mess, so given that it was already disassembled...

What paint brand and color did you use as mine is faded and bugs the shit out of me

My cab is slightly faded, but this is what I used from Lowes. Really close to the original purple/plum color.

Always run one off with the table saw and router! Looks like a lot of work though.

#11 4 years ago

I would be in for a light panel too if anyone makes them. Mine is just as bad.

#12 4 years ago

Mine was bad too. This seems to be more of a common issue with this specific title than I thought.

#13 4 years ago
Quoted from ForceFlow:

Was it? It does seem like a few Hulks have the issue worse than other Sys 1 games. I just redid the light panel from my Spiderman, and it seems like Sys 80 games have a much more firm particleboard.

#14 4 years ago

I have a lead on a Sys 1 panel, but not specific to Hulk. Might grab that one, but looks like I’m also going to make a new one out of plywood myself.

If anybody else is interested, I can make more than one so let me know. Not even sure where to price something like this.

#15 4 years ago

Refurbed frame mounted, and already removing the light panel.

Borg, you remember what type of ply or material you used to make your new panel? Pic is not a great angle, but looks like the non-swelled area of mine is 1/2”.

For Hulk I used 1/2" MDF as I had a piece. I recently made one for Alien Star and used 1/2" baltic birch plywood. definitely prefer the baltic birch for working with, although the mdf gives a nice smooth surface.

The ones I have measured are pretty close to a true 1/2" thick like you are seeing.

#21 4 years ago

Picked up some MDF, clamped up to cut the first new panel.

Cut a second panel too. Have enough wood left to make a third.

Found a perfect green color, with two coats of white primer first to lighten it up just a hair (only appears way lighter outside with the somber gray sky today). Thought I’d try something different than going with the usual white. Curing now.

Should be able to reassemble tomorrow.

Tumbled the hardware and display standoffs. Repopulated and ready to be mounted after I finish polishing a few other metal parts.

Color match to the green in the cab is pretty damn good.

My buddy 3-D printed some new ones that I’m going to use. He had given me a small batch of them for my Spiderman restoration. An alternate design with tabs to screw them down also instead of glueing.

I used some pvc pipe coupler cut down to the right length. a little thicker than the originals but work fine. hot glued in place. I don't remember the size off the top of my head 1-1/4" I think.
