Hi guys, still trying to get the right sling to work. It fires in test, but not in play. I think I got a switch problem. On the switch test they all show open. When I physically close the switches on that matrix row they remain open in the switch test. All the switches test fine with the ohm meter. I then tested the wires back to their respected plugs and pins and saw no issues. Not sure where to go from here.

Was this game working and suddenly stopped working?...or has it always been this way?

In switch test momentarily jump CJ4-6 to CJ4-12, does the MPU register right sling?, if you move one end of jumper and jump CJ4-6 to CJ4-13 do you get Rocket "e"?

Thank you wayout440 for your response. I really am not sure if it ever worked right. I do remember it had a little action at one point but almost like a stray voltage kickback. I thought it was a coil problem so I changed the coil. When that didn't do anything I switched out the CPU board to the old one I had. Anyway, did the jumpers and jumped CJ4-6 to cj4-12 and it registered both right and left sling. Then I did Cj4-6 to cj4-13 and it said rocket.

Yep. I would jump that row to another pin and see if the column of switches will trigger the "other" column. That will tell you if it is in the playfield or the board.

Ok, at least it is not a main board problem. Your problem is either the connector pin not making contact for the row/columns that are out, or a wire break at the first switch in that row or column. Look at the wire color codes on your switch matrix diagram to determine which wire colors you need to examine

Thanks again, I take it that I was supposed to get both left and right slings switches to show closed when I jumped the pins. I already ohmed out the wires so I guess its the plug. Your help is greatly appreciated!

How did you make out with the wires... Were the colors correct from your previous thread? From the sounds of it I would check your plug and the pins in it to make sure it's making contact properly. Let us know how you make out and good luck!!

Well, I now have fresh coils, some extra chips, and some lessons well learned on my first ever pinball game. LOL, but I finally got everything working. It was the connectors, not the board. Thanks to everyone for your very valuable input.
I guess the next step in the learning curve is changing the connectors. I went on a couple of pinball parts stores looking for them but they don't seem to have the sizes mine requires. They are listed as .025 sq. pins and .045 sq. pins. Any ideas where to get the female connectors?
Thanks again!

One of the best places. They will have most of what you need when working on the electronics of a pinball machine.
