Sorry- here it is in a nutshell. I bought a used pinball machine. There was apparent lightning damage to the original PS and I had bought it with 3 lamp lights out and a missing diagnostic switches that puts it into service mode.
I fixed the 3 lamps- loose wire on the CN connector.
Worked fine for a few months until the entire lamp matrix went dead- All GI lights still worked.
Been trying to fix that stupid lamp matrix problem and was using the forum as a guide of waht to look at. One earlier post with a similar issue had mentioned he had a bad PS.
I had checked all the fuses. I pulled the lamp wiring harness off and hooked up alligator clips with a 555 bulb and a diode checking for any working lamp on any row/column thinking it might possibly be a bad ground wire somewhere under the playing field. I did not get any lights so thinking it possibly was PS related I pulled the old PS and inspected it. It was obvious someone had worked on the board- there was a burnt area and someone had replaced some resistors and soldered traces on the back of the board.
AHA- thinking I found the problem I ordered an XPIN PS from K's Arcade and hooked it up- nothing different- matrix lamps still dead. Mind you all harnesses lined up from old PS to new PS , however when I tried to actually put the machine into play, I started getting solenoids firing off left and right. The knocker fires 7 times and a few of the kickers like it is missing a ball. The pinball will not eject into the pinshoot area. It seems that I have several switches not working- left coin worked- not working now. With the glass off, if i depress the right outlane as if the ball is in play, it fires off kickers at the top of the machine, the slingshots are not working- almost if I have a row or column of switches dead or it is just a bad cpu. I dont know if the new PS caused the problem or if I have a machine spiraling into a deathspin.
I had a pinball repair guy out looking at it a few weeks ago when it was only a bad lamp matrix. He couldnt get the machine into diagnostic mode and he also checked the fuses and wires and didnt see any apparent quick fixes without bring the machine back to the shop.
Even though I had the new PS in the machine for only a few minutes, K's Arcade refuses to take back the PS and I have the new issues with both the old and new PS.
