I have a 1973 Williams Gulfstream. It looks like it has the wrong lockdown bar installed. It is a 22" wide cabinet and the width of the bar looks fine. But it sticks out from the front of the cabinet, about 1/4" on one side and 3/8" on the other side. I was going to just cut and re-weld the tabs underneath but the lockdown bar is pitted and I'd rather replace it with a better one that fits correctly. I see some on ebay but they are light on the details like dimensions. How do I make sure I get one that fits?

Ento, you may want to keep your questions in the EM Hangout. As you already know, we respond more quickly there. Most of the EM guys do not look at other sub-forums, including myself. So repost your question there.

No need. Thread moved to the EM forum

Get a picture of lockbar receiver. Let's make sure that is right. If that looks good then I can get a picture and dimensions of a bar from that era and see if it would work

Here are a few images of the lockbar receiver. Also, if you look at the closeup above the lockdown bar you can see what looks like wear on the side rails above where he lockdown bar rests suggesting a different bar was installed?

It's a little hard to tell from the perspective of the picture, where does your tab fall? Mine is 1 1/4 inches from the front. I think it needs to be closer to 7/8 or 1 inch.

My experience has been that it is common for the lock bars on the Williams games to position away from the body like yours does. The wear marks you see on the side rails are just from the lock bar shifting on the game from being nudged.

Not sure there is anything you can really do.

I take that back. A WPC generation lock bar, used on most of the 90's WMS/Bally games, will fit much better, without having to change the receiver, than the generation you have. Maybe borrow one and try it on for size and see.

If I move the ruler to the inside of the bar it measures 1 1/32 inch to center of the mount

Bend the tabs to bring the bar forward. EZ fix!

#12 7 years ago

Agreed mate. Bend tabs forward and you'll be grand.

Bend tabs back, brings bar forward. Done it many times.

That's what me meant. Thanks a million.

Pure rocket science.

I thought the same thing since the tabs did look bent but if I do that the bar that the tabs are welded to hits the glass and the lockdown bar will not seat. Maybe someone swapped the glass out and it is a little too long so they bent the tabs to make the lockdown bar fit? Anyway, I ordered another lockdown bar off of ebay. We'll see if that fits. Mine is pitted anyway.

You sure the glass is all the way pushed forward? Maybe there is an obstruction. Otherwise good luck!

I can tell from your pictures that you don't have the right bar. The stainless steel skin is not shaped like a Williams one is. Perhaps it is a Recel

Good luck with your purchase. The one pictured is for sale if you wanted that one

It sure looks like mine. What do you see different?

The way the contour doesn't quite curve around to meet the side rails. It is quite possible there is damage on the top that's making it look wrong

Ironically the mounting piece looks right but that appears where he is having issues

New bar arrived. How does this look? Front edge is much better but it sits a little high. Any way to adjust that with the lock mechanism or is this normal with a new beer seal?

That appears to be a WPC style lock bar that I recommended earlier. If it is latching properly that is probably the best it is going to sit.

I tightened the screws on the lockbar receiver and that helped squeeze it down a bit. It looks much better now. I'm satisfied.
