Hello,

Stargate is one of Gottlieb/Premier's machines. It has three flippers, two on the right and one on the left. When I press the right flipper button, the bottom flipper flips normally but the top flipper button just twitches. It moves in sync with the button presses but just moves a small amount.

My knowledge of pin repair is 0/10 although I did a complete playfield swap on this machine.

Does this sound like a end of stroke switch issue?

Cheers,
Cake

Not familiar with the flipper set up on that game, but I would check the EOS switch as well as the coil sleeve. If you move the flipper manually by hand, does it move freely or is there some friction or binding?

Another thing to check are the coil lugs for cracks or breaks, broken wires, or broken diodes.

With the power off, the working flippers have a springy resistance to them when moving them. The top flipper does not, it will move freely without resistance and it won't move back to starting position when moved. This is also true with the power on.

It sounds like at a minimum you may be missing a spring. Can you post a picture of the flipper assembly from under the playfield?

This assembly looks the same as the other two flippers. There is a linkage which appears to have a return spring. I think that linkage attaches to the flipper. I am suspecting that the problem is how the flipper attaches to the linkage.

Is there a flipper bushing? Small piece of plastic that the flipper shaft goes through. Is it intact?

First, rule out mechanical issues. Carefully inspect the working flippers vs the one having problems. Take the flipper out if needed. Look for anything binding, or any missing or cracked parts. Examine the coil sleeves and plungers.

Quoted from Nokoro:

I have located the issue. There is a screw called "Unbrako", whatever that is, that holds the flipper to the plunger. This screw was loose. I am guessing that at the time I did the playfield rebuild I did not have the Allen wrench necessary to tighten it sufficiently.

The flipper works now. It's not aligned to the proper rest position, but I'm working on that.

Thanks for everyone's help.

(EDIT) I was kind of wondering if there was a recommended method for lining up the flippers in the rest position.
