I don't have the manual, and am reasonably savvy with working on Sterns of this era, but I've checked all the obvious stuff like fuses and connections. Can anyone recommend a procedure for starting? Test firing does nothing, and I don't mind all the repairs that a working shaker might cause.

Quoted from ForceFlow:

Has it ever worked? If not, it's possible that it was intentionally disabled.

Not as long as I've owned it, no. Definitely saw this come up in a few places. It was at least partially disconnected and un-fused but that's been addressed and it's not blowing fuses now, so I was hoping for a theory of "check this, if it's ok, check next thing", etc.

Quoted from flynnibus:

Start with voltage at the motor... work backwards. I bet the diagnostics even have the transistors listed.

What's an expected value (obviously "not 0"...)?

Quoted from gutz:

Couple things to keep in mind; the coil power will be cut off with the front door open, and the shaker doesn't activate during gameplay - it activates after x number of games in attract mode to clear the coins stuck on the playfield.

Bypassing the door is simple enough, but are you suggesting it doesn't work in the normal test mode?
