Oddly enough, I don’t think I’ve ever tried them.

Well get on with it man, it's an American tradition.

    Now I’m curious.
I’ll look for some next time I’m at the store.
    I’ll report back.

My wife and I both love them. Bought a bunch when I heard they were closing up. We have about 10 rolls left. We are rationing them out now.

Is it true they are being rereleased? Is it the New England Candy Co again, or a different company?

Yay, another chance to be pedantic!

    It's "Yea or Nay."

Necco wafers are nothing to get excited about, but any candy beats no candy.

    That’s a little harsh

    I was actually serious.

I really think Tums and Necco are the same thing. Tums taste more like chalky candy than medicine and I suspect Necco works like an antacid too.

If you try it, you'll know what I mean.

Not in this thread, buster. OP sets the tune and we all dance to it. While enjoying some delicious NECCO wafers, of course.

    Yay!

My favorite American candy - big yea! I buy ‘em every visit so I have a good supply.

I used to get them in MREs.

don't remember ever getting those, but I'd rather eat a pile of those nasty candy hearts than another MRE.

    Never had them myself..

Nay on the wafers , yay on Skybar and skybar tropical

I'd rather have me some Mary Jane's or Squirrel Nut Zippers...................... Were made by NECCO as well.

I played a NECCO making pharmacist on an episode of a tv show titled "Underground", I was also the prop master for the show for it's two seasons.

NECCO was amazing with their support and sent me their recipe as well as ingredients to make several authentic batches. I can tell you it's not Tums.

My role was cut down on the edit, but I am still the first 45 seconds.

NECCO is a cool American company in my opinion, and yes they do make the candy hearts. A lot of memories for a lot of folks with just those two products.

Fucking awesome! This is the kind of thing I'd love to have included in my obituary. Guess I'd better get cracking.

They WERE a cool Company, however put out of business because of peoples changing habit of eating sugared candies today.......

Their Revere factory now set to be Amazons newest and largest fulfillment center outside of Boston.

    Crap, that sucks.

I was just up there in Boston/Marblehead area shooting last nov-march. I heard about the new amazon going in....I had no idea. There's another Amazon just north of Boston 30 mins. I heard the other was much closer, is this the same?

Thanks for the info. It's interesting the correlation between pharmacists and necco. Thanks for clarifying it's not the same formula.

I assumed it started out as a product toting health benefits, like Coca Cola using Cocaine.

They are definitely very similar and I wouldn't be surprised if Necco still provided the same benefit as an antacid.

Have you tried Tums to see the similarity? They are extremely similar in taste and texture. Tums is just thicker.

    #69 3 years ago

Haha, yeah I've been out of work for four months due to C19 shutting down my field of work, so I've had a few Tums for sure.

I was looking through my research just now.

NECCO started with Peerless, then Hub, then NECCO

    Peerless Wafers 1850’s - 1910?
    Hub Wafers 1890’s ? – 1930’s
    Necco Wafers 1902 – Present

Would be interesting to know what changes where made to the formula through those periods.
