For the loading multiple ball issue, try disconnecting and reconnecting the wires leading to the trough opto boards. Those connectors are notorious for getting dirty and having intermittent issues. If this solves it for a few games, you should consider replacing the connectors. It could also be the solder joints on the opto boards. You can try reflowing the solder on the opto boards to see if that fixes it too...

On the inconsistent loading issue, pull the apron off and look at the welds on the upper part of the trough exit. Those welds have been known to break which can lead to problems loading the ball into the shooter lane.

No need to replace the board, just the header pins on the old board and the connector (the part with wires) that plugs into the board.

Sure, Great Plains Electronics has everything you would need.

Love the arcadeupkeep backbox light too. I especially like to ability to turn the backbox light off when in a game. No backbox glare in the playfield glass!

Just joined the club yesterday. Picked one up that hasn’t seen a lot of plays. The subway is almost spotless! Going to be great next to Mustang, Indy 500 and Grand Prix (EM)

Any recommendations for protectors (plastics, scoops, ramps, etc)

What do you recommend for GI LEDs? Warm vs cold?

Quoted from Guydudebreaux:

Just finished restoring a NASCAR, because I always like the game.

Looking GREAT! Where did you get the apron cards? Love the "hold my beer" card.

Quoted from mbelofsky:

I will make sure gap is bigger though thanks. I used a metal file and cleaned up the nibs on the leaf switches and widened the gap. I just ran another burn in and it worked. It looked like they were far enough away but now they are a bit further away.
Thanks. Hopefully this solves what my main problem was.

NEVER use a metal file on modern, low voltage switches. You just ruined that switch by filing off the switch contact plating. It will oxidize and stop working over time.

Quoted from mbelofsky:

Maybe I should also ask this on a generic SAM Stern post.

Good idea, the whole repair conversation should be in its own thread so you don't clutter up the club thread

The manual calls for 7 yellow #44 bulbs in the GI of the game: 4 are on the right side of the backboard, one on the caution sign on the left rear. Anyone know where the other 2 are supposed to go?

#1341 2 years ago

My very low play game which I believe has original rubbers has black rubbers everywhere. The manual calls for white. Which color is original?

#1349 2 years ago

Thanks. Turns out they were Pinball Life rubbers so definitely not stock.

Best mod ever for pre-Spike modern Stern games - automatic dimming LED backbox light board! It dims when you start a game to eliminate glare in the playfield glass. It evenly lights the trans light. It comes with everything you need, installs using existing mounting locations and is 100% removable without a trace if desired.
