I think i remember reading this that stern got super lazy and i guess the hole drilling guy went on strike and since tournament mode was not used on dale jr games, they wired the start button to the lock down bar button.

No they aren't drilled for a start button. Start button is in the lockdown bar.
I don't have a picture of it..

Learned something new today. I guess no one else at the factory knew how to adjust the chuck on a drill. I would have thought the hole was automatically CNC'd out of the front panel. I'm curious to know if it was and then backfilled with a plug. Moving it to the lockdown bar is just dumb and lazy. If I had a Dale I would definitely do what Spiderpin did, or probably even drill out the cabinet and put it where it should be.
Are you sure that's brown/blue? It looks dirty white/blue in the photo.
The manual for this pin is fantastic. It should help you narrow down what goes where. It can be grabbed right off the Stern website.
Yeah it is brown blue. You can see it in the first pic. The second is with a flash so it makes it whiter. I downloaded the manual and am looking through the 255 pages. Hahaha. I just hoped someone had a pic of theirs or had gone through this before to offer insight.

I am seeing that. Looks like that orange/white wire that isn’t connected on the other end is in it’s slot on the connector. I’m thinking someone just stuck a random color wire in there and connected them on the other end?
Quoted from Spiderpin:That's what I see in your picture.
Thanks guys. Will connect them and see
Update…. So I joined the orange wire to the brown/blue and nothing happened. Then I unhooked them and I hooked the orange/white wire to the coil and presto, it worked. Then as I stood there going over “why” I figured a previous owner probably had an issue with this brown/blue wire at some point and just bypassed it. The orange/white wire must have come off the coil and that is what started the whole process. It is fixed now and working perfectly….thanks for everyone’s help and hopefully this will help someone in the future.
Having a problem I can’t figure out on Grand Prix, I added a Flipper Fidelity speaker kit today and that should have nothing to do with the issues it now has. I’m getting three different error codes but all three of them work fine, however the up post in the top center of the playfield that acts as a diverter to the pop bumpers no longer activates in test mode or in game play. I seem to have checked everything I can think of but I’m stumped.

Anybody else have the one over the bottom left magnets? thanks
I have questions! Help me out guys, appreciate it.
1)What are these metal brackets in the lower cab, one on each side?
2) I have a bunch of connectors not connected..are they supposed to be?
- First one is lower left side in backbox - blk/org and blk/yel
- next is red/blk and red/white ...I think its for dmd panel speakers...mine aren't wired yet
- next upper left backbox, 2 connectors with blk and red wires
- next middle left backbox blk and red wires
- last under PF left-side by diverter orange and blk/purple wires
3 Need help wiring in bash car. Can you just confirm this is correct?
Looks like grey/green wire (marked 1 in pic) goes from main large coil to wire harness?
Looks like yellow/purple (marked 2 in pic)daisy chains from far right coil to middle main large coil then to harness?
Looks like brown/green wire (marked 3 in pic) coming from circled connector goes to far right side coil?
Quoted from JustJared:Any updates on if anyone made a pinsound package for this?
I’m not sure, but I put a Flipper Fidelity speaker kit in mine.

What did you think about Flipper Fidelity and the sound change? Does flipper fidelity have an amp with it or is it a speaker replacement?

It came with an amp, it’s a little better now, but not mind blowing. I’d only recommend it for games that can utilize it more, or if it’s one of your favorite games. I’m addicted to Grand Prix so I’m going all out on it, making it the best I can.

I think you should take a look at the manual for this one. I am not at my game but if someone can take the glass off and shoot some pics im sure it would help to compare.

Got the car sorted, assuming the connectors in the head are not utilized as everything seems to be working. And I'm thinking the brackets in the lower cab on each side has something to do with playfield spacing, read a note about something like that. Thanks
nice nice, good to hear you made progress.
I got a few extra 2nds translites that I am offering to the group here for a substantial discount. They have minor printing defects but they would basically be moot from playing position.
send me a PM/DM for more details and pricing!!
Hi, wanted thoughts on the following. I have a broken wire on a switch for the garage. It's pretty straight forward, see photo. However I haven't soldered anything for 30 years. Can I just heat the existing solder and attach the broken wire without issue? I'm hoping I could just heat it up and stick the wire in it. Thoughts?
You can try to just heat up the Solder and see if you can attach the wire I have done this in the past.
Quoted from KrazyIvan14:Can I just heat the existing solder and attach the broken wire without issue?
Yes you probably can. It looks like it has already been resoldered before with a big glump of solder. Don't be afraid to get in there and resolder if needed. Get the solder gun nice and hot first, also may have a solder sucking tool and some new solder that has flux already added. You would get the solder hot or liquid-suck it up and then resolder. If you do not do very many repairs the cheaper ones from Pinball Life will do the job.

how come you changed out all the star posts, which ones did you use to replace?

Hoping someone can help. My NASCAR sound is acting up. Sometimes its perfect, other times it doesn't work at all and most of the time the sound is scrambled / sped up / distorted. I replaced all sound ROMs with no luck. I'm thinking there might be a cold solder joint on the board. I thought I'd ask the group.
Another sound issue:
Anybody here running a generation 1 Pinsound board with the original sound package download (only one available I could find)?
Just got mine going today and the sound cuts out, changes volume at times, has lag like I hit a jackpot and it doesn't announce it for a second or 5. All this is not consistent and varies as well. I read somebody saying that most pinsound original sound files have issues and are not the best.
Volume overall seems quiet as well like I have to almost max out game volume at coin door and turn the volume pots on the pinsound board to like 3/4 turn to get a decent volume.
Anyways just seeing if anybody else experienced this or if I have something else going on?
---side question, is there any way to have it not play drive 55 during multiball and just another random background music???
I'm talking factory sound package option and existing adjustment, not creating my own. thanks
My sound went out and U8 might be the problem. I tried to repair it, but no luck. Anyway, I'm buying my first Pinsound board hoping it'll fix the problem. Does anyone have any cool music downloads to go with NASCAR?

I've seen no post about updated sound files for Nascar. My plan is to purchase a pinsound board at some point and make my own sounds.

Someone please make a Talladega Nights audio

I'm would asked on the pinsound forum. I have been working on mine doing a topside tear down. I'm sure someone would make the sound file.
