My daughter has this condition and is challenging for her to manage without medication. By the end of the day she looks like she's fighting with every bit of energy left to stay conscious. At about 3 am she talks in her sleep and its incoherent gibberish. It used to wake me up in the middle of the night because it was so loud. It went undiagnosed for over a year because the doctors couldn't figure it out. It started when she was 11 years old which I guess is very common among sufferers. She also has cataplexy which typically accompanies this condition. When she is most tired or going through an episode of her brain trying to shutdown she displays facial mannerisms. Once we knew what it was it's obvious that it appears she is really struggling to stay awake. A very serious condition especially if you get behind the wheel. On car rides she falls asleep almost instantly. She is managing it ok with medication and is currently enrolled at UCONN and doing very well. She also just earned an internship at Electric Boat(building submarines) as a freshmen which is rare. Usually don't get in until your second year.
