Quoted from Aurich:

If I had one outright negative thing to say about the game it would be that the (totally optional) shooter rod looks uncomfortable and out of place.
His scepter/crop is an obvious choice, if you want the literally from the movie kind of design that might be vaguely nice on the hand. I find most alternate shooter rods questionable in that last department.
[quoted image]

That's exactly why I'm looking at making other options. The nipper is funny and well made but terrible for a shooter. The only problem with the scepter is it's 2 distinct materials that probably wouldn't survive on a pin without proper engineering. Cosplay or a decorative prop yes, but putting that orb on a pin would be precarious without something fusing it in place. Securing it properly would take some effort or something that would ruin the look. I don't like making something I think will easily break if someone bumped up against it. Shooter rods stick out pretty far.

Quoted from Roostking:

This is a blueprint on how to do it. See AP, Turner, DR, Zizzle, Kulek, HW, etc etc on how not to do it.

Why on Earth are you listing AP with crooks and Zizzle? Your post just lost all credibility.

Does this machine come with a written manual. This seems to me should be mandatory in my book. Gives us that can fix things a little independence instead of having to call someone. What would this industry do without LTG. What happens if he does not live forever. A written manual is going to be my requirement for any new machine. Alien and TBL snuck in but I am working on it. I even have one for Godfather.

Quoted from luckymoey:

I’m sure it sounds fine but there’s no way a 15 watt amp can get anywhere near the potential of a 800 watt rated, higher end (at least in pinball terms) sub. And what I meant by aggressive is limiting the signal to the cabinet speaker to a sub vs. woofer frequency range. Personally, I prefer a fuller range in the cabinet, which a 15W amp could better drive, with an external sub. But in the scheme of things it’s immaterial to an otherwise excellent designed pin.

It's a pinball machine not a car stereo or home theater. 800W is what you use to power a whole 5.1 system. Most only do 100 watts per channel. Full bookshelf speakers take about 100W. Pinball machines don't need subs or shakers or giant speakers or the endless extra light shows. I know music is part of the experience but it's not a jukebox at a disco. 15W is plenty and you can make changes if you really need to.

I play pinball for pinball, I don't know what yall are doing with these machines anymore. It's like you're trying to shove a whole EDM festival into a machine. Can't wait for the added flamethrower mods.

Quoted from Jagrmaister:

I get it. It needs to be different. Doesn't need to be a thrill ride or a Stern, and it certainly draws you deep when you start a mode and the music shifts dramatically, but even being in the minority that chime for me is just something else.
That's still pretty good if that's all I have to complain about the game.

Totally fair assessment on your part too. We don't have to love everything out there and I will agree that its pretty mild issue.

I think this is a great idea, even if its just in PDF format we can download.

Quoted from superNoid:

Same. I love the dreamy chimes and the score. It really pulls the whimsical vibe from the art and sculps into the sounds to complete the experience. I do not want Labyrinth to be like an energy ride Stern or something. No shade on Sterns, I have them and enjoy them but games should be unique experiences otherwise... whats the point?

The music is great and fits the theme and atmosphere perfectly. The variations build nicely and offer a great contrast to the mode music. I hope they don't change this given all of the criticism here.

He didn't say AP were crooks he was just giving examples of companies who can't launch products properly or can't come up with products that people are excited for and become successful. Turner is not a crook either (at least hasn't proven to be yet) but the way he is going about his game launch is very bad. Zizzle was not a crook either, it was just a bad attempt by JPOP (before he turned into a crook). I'd also add Pinball Adventures to this list. Not crooks per say but just going about things in a very bad manner. BOF on the other hand has put on a masterclass on how to launch a company and make a great game that everyone is buzzing about.

I'm a senior technical writer with 25 years of experience. My side gig is writing pinball manuals (6Point5 Degrees Documentation Services).
I happened to email Barrels of Fun yesterday to see if they'd want to collaborate on a service manual.
Shout out to ripit for championing this.

Never suggested that you need anything close to 800W or that 15W wasn’t plenty for a pinball machine. That was a strawman argument created by Haymaker. Simply asked how the beefy, car stereo JBL sub sounded when paired with the 15W Fast pinball amp. And expressed some surprise that the Fast pinball amp has a low frequency cutoff when so many pinball machines use a mid-range cabinet speaker.

#2461 10 months ago

I will pay for a nice manual and top dollar for a great one. Make it an extra like a backglass or a topper that you can order and it will pay for itself.. TBL and Alien JJP are you listening also.

I can assure you that people who know a lot more about designing audio than you do are on the case and have it handled. Hopefully that puts all your concerns to bed and thats the last we'll have to hear about it.

At the price point these games are at is a worthy sound system to much to ask for in a game of lights and sounds ? I do not think so

Quoted from kermit24:

The only thing I didn't like was the right flipper collapsing (from ball hitting) when held up at times. Could it be a misadjusted EOS or flipper hold power setting?

This bugged me too. I had this happen on an old early SS machine but never on a modern machine. Would love for someone knowledgeable to chime in whether this is fixable.

Its worthy. Its better than pretty much any sound system on the market besides TNA. It sounds awesome.

Here I thought you'd be #1 Zizzle fan, since they are in your price range.

Not EOS or hold power.

This : I've seen this occasionally on new flipper button leaf blades. Works great in test and kind of works in game play until a ball hits it. Easy fix. Peen the contact on the leaf blade hard, or solder the contact to the leaf blade. The contact isn't making a good electrical contact with the leaf blade.

And I'm not blaming Barrels Of Fun. They source new parts and install them. A tiny problem like this would pop up later after lots of game play.

Once I can afford it, it loses its luster. You only want the things you can't have right?

Maybe I should get a zizzle though so I can be the guy who brings it to shows in order to get in for free lmao. I wouldn't even have to drive my truck, I bet it would fit in the trunk of my car!

Quoted from joelbob:I don't know exactly how I'm supposed to respond to this, and I probably should just ignore it entirely but... all we do is play the game. If you watch any of my other streams it is pretty easy to tell when we are enjoying ourselves or if we are getting frustrated/bored. We (my brother and I) had a great time last night. My brother genuinely loves the theme and if we said we love a shot or mode then that is a real opinion. I'm not one to edit myself or filter my opinion so what you saw last night was just two brothers really enjoying their first experiences with a brand new game. If you want to assume there is something else working in the background then go ahead but we are just going to keep playing and having fun.

I thought you guys did a great job. Your brother is obviously a super fan of the movie lol. He gets excited just talking trivia.

Honestly I watched and just wish I could play and hang out with you guys, you seem to have a lot of fun hanging out together.

also nice to watch various skill lvls playing the game.

Weird I had no idea he was tied to Zizzle either. Wikipedia states he is the founder of Zizzle (which might make sense since Zidware also starts with the Zi). Wiki states what games he designed for Zizzle. If someone knows better then update the wikipedia I guess.

Am I the only one who thinks Nipper's shooter is cool ?

The goblins use that creepy thing at the top of their spears. It's stupid, ugly and part of what makes that movie funny…..I like it.

Can you clarify? You are saying specifically when the ball hits the flipper, you have seen it it's cause the cabinet flipper switch to open circuit?

Quoted from Darth_Chris:

I like it, we'll see how it feels to plunge the ball with it as to whether I keep it on the game or not as I do think it looks large, but they nailed the design. It's supposed to be ugly and it's a great conversation piece and ties right in with the attract mode where they are bouncing up and down above the maze hedges.

Quoted from dpadam450:

I'm not sure the real reason why. I've just run into it. And maybe it's me. I don't dwell on the why with a problem. I fix it and move on.

The flipper switch stays closed. The contacts on the leaf blade aren't making good contact with the leaf blade. Maybe tarnish, dirt, grease, who knows what. So the contact isn't making a good electrical contact with the leaf blade it's pounded into.

I first ran into this years ago with Addams. Maybe who ever made the leaf blades for Williams was stretched thin when an order for 40,000 leaf blade switches came in. And things weren't as clean as they should have been ?

Or maybe it's the material of the contact, or the material of the leaf blade ?

For this try a known working leaf blade switch or try a new one from a different batch or source.

That is how I figured it out.

Not a common issue, it does pop up from time to time.

My problem with it is it would stick out too far and people, including myself, would constantly run into it. Space is tight in my gameroom at parties and I'm kinda a klutz, I must acknowledge these shortfalls in my purchase decisions.

Exactly, it's by design. You see how stupid, ludicrous and inconvenient when it is used as a weapon. Not the most confortable shooter but it puts you in the theme. Maybe I'm pushing it but hey if it doesnt do the job I'll gladly put it on top of my shovel this winter hahaha.

By the way, is anyone working on an extension for that beast of a topper ? I mentionned it before but I would like to put it on a shelf next to my game. I can't be the only one with height issues ?

#2486 10 months ago
Quoted from nwpinball:

Geeze, the guy pronouncing Bowie wrong! Otherwise, great stream.

I've been to a number of Texas high school band competitions this year. More than one of them has featured Bowie's music, and the announcer reciting the list of performance pieces invariably pronounces it like the knife (or, more likely, like the local school which is named after the popularizer of said knife).

Hello Darth_Chris, I think its a good idea just not something we are focusing on right now, but we will look into it.

Wouldn't it be cool to add a alarm clock to it and have them chat away every hour or so.

#2488 10 months ago
Quoted from Aurich:

I do know what royalty costs for actors in a pinball can look like. They are, uh, not high, as a general rule. Not having a character is probably never an actual cost issue in any game.

Dave Chappelle legally was (originally) getting $0 for Netflix to air his show because they own the rights to air it outright. I'd be surprised any actor as a kid is getting any royalties or requires permission for the movie clips.

Thanks for your reply. That's what I really like about you : you think outside the box. I'm sure you still have a bag full of surprises for us. In my opinion some people are on the fence on that topper because of space limitations. I don’t understand why people would buy the pin and not the topper. Like many said before when you compare it to what's on the market. Price is right in my opinion. Hey I'm not even a topper kind of guy.

Your product and company launch in my opinion is just at the right time. You came after the crazy covid wave yes but now pinside is screaming to have more for their money's worth. I think you'll fit right in. It's refreshing. Keep it up.

By the way I watched the stream last night and when I saw the Bog of eternal stench stacked with the dance magic dance multiballs. These farts sounds combined with the song…… call me a child but I was laughing out loud almost to the point of crying.

Addams gold, yes.

Regular Addams no.

I had a very early Addams, and a couple years later picked up a gold. Ran them both for some time. Eventually kept the gold. Mainly because of the flipper button opto boards. I thought the regular Addams looked better with the translucent pop bumper caps and blue book case and thing box.

Do you have any binaca? Perhaps a mint?

The conversations between them could be funny movie references.

I'm totally with you on this. Its a common problem on lots of these aftermarket or premium shooter rods. I never understood why people go ga-ga for them so much.

I played with the nipper handle a couple times and yeah, its definitely not for me either. I will say, it did feel better than I expected it to. At least it was some semblance of a normal shooter feel in your hand, like more than you would think. I have certainly felt much worse shooters in my time. Still an easy pass for me if I was in on this game, but pretty much 99% of all of them in the industry are passes for me.

And Sarah has an Escher painting hanging on the wall of her bedroom along with images of most of the scenes in the film…even the cleaners! Such a cool flick. There will never be anything like it ever again.

Quoted from Sorokyl:

Does someone have to be famous to be funny?
It's not dumb luck that they found funny people. None of it was dumb luck. They had a good team of people who brought different skill sets and that knew what was good.
We have not yet since seen such a team. Team Elwin is pretty good. Good layout, mechs, rules, code, art. But there's the stuff that is hard to point at... the soul. It's easy to hide/ make up for when you've got a great IP and licensed assets but I'm not convinced anyone can put out an unlicensed theme that would be good enough to justify not spending a little $ on a license.
BOF seems to have a lot of cool people working there. Based on the attention to detail on this pin and how much "soul" it has, seems like they've got a great team. Maybe they could make a decent unlicensed pin but after listening to the Aussie Podcast with David, seems like the themes are what got him into pinball. He loves film and he has a lot of skill and experience working with licensors and seems like he appreciates the value of using licensed IP for pinball. So I doubt we'll see anything unlicensed from them.
p.s. shoutout to TNA, the best and dare I say only good unlicensed game since the 90s.
