Quoted from BSavage:

"Can I ask for a particular game number?"
You can request a game number through your Distro or us if you purchased from us. We will do our best if it is available.

Brian,

Would this game number be a plaque like the one on the decked out version from expo? Or would this just be a documented number somewhere in email or paperwork? I'd really love if I could get a numbered plaque!

Will never understand the fascination with numbers and/or plaques. Isn't the game enough? The whole machine is my plaque.

Quoted from Sorokyl:

May sell IMDN to make room.

I was rooting for you and really liked your style until you said this Blasphemy. Don't do it man. Maiden is awesome and it's your avatar. By the way I had to make a deposit on Labyrinth. I got FOMO big time hahahaha.

The game is enough, its just a question to their CBO who mentioned that numbers were available.

Had a chance to talk and play with David Van Es at Expo. I posted this in the owners thread also, but did not want the "hype" to end there.

Quoted from Haymaker:

I can deal with a theme I don't like, but at least make the games good, the art good, and have some sort of appeal. Thats the problem with original themes, they only appeal to small audiences. Its actually an extremely easy concept to understand, so I have no idea why some people need to cope so hard about it. Labyrinth is a theme I don't give a flying crap about. I've never seen the movie, I don't think I even heard of the movie until I was like in my 20s and Youtube finally came around. Yet, here I am loving this game. So sorry, try again.

One can also view it as a known theme is a story that works and a story that works, is a story suitable for pinball.

You might call medieval madness an unknown theme, but is it really?
You fight an evil lord, raize his castle, saves the damsel in distress, smashes the ogres.
Unknown theme? Not so much.....

Same with labyrinth, you may have not seen it, but you know it, its been told a thousand times.
A vulnerable protagonist on a dangourus and noble journey, pick up help along an adventourus travel and comes out a grown up hero in the end.
It really doesnt matter if the name is sarah, dorothy, bilbo or luke skywalker.

And it works, for pinball too....

Have we heard if the rules will be expanded and or if more mode choreography will be added? Currently it's the software that is holding me back from buying this game. Will the static image of the labyrinth remain on screen most of the time or will it be updated to something more interesting such as an interactive map? For nearly $11k the animations need to be of higher quality and more of them. The main music is a bit slow as well.

When I think of Labyrinth as a pinball machine I imagine all of these unique story based modes with objectives, stages, things to collect, etc. I'm just not feeling that with what has been shown so far.

Have to agree. Hate for the plingey elevator music here, it would probably drive me crazy in a home setting.

The good thing is, thats all fixable.

Watch that video from HopBeard just above. He mentioned more to come and effects where that playfield LCD is working in pair with the main LCD. More to come for sure.

David van Es said the code is really early.

Nice ... owners thread already...

Game looks well built !

#2312 10 months ago

Yes but that dedication to stuff like stinking forever because you touched the Bog of eternal stench and farting sounds on each switches after and your score being in dirty green. That's another level of respect for the theme.

Also, for beginers, if you did not start anything on your last ball you get to have a mode anyway. That's brilliant for casual and kids players.

Hello SuperNoid and I love your Pic. Yes it will be like the one on the decked out version.

The first thing I want to say is THANK YOU, because you gave us a chance by coming out and playing our game at Expo. We were thrilled to be there and able to show you what the team has been working on tirelessly over the past 2.5 years. We know we have a long way to go, as I have said previously, we have made it to base camp and the real climb is in front of us.

As Brian stated above, we have procedures in place to keep us moving forward in the correct way, but quality is #1 making sure we deliver a game you deserve.

The one thing I came away with from the show that made me so happy was the families that were lining up to play Labyrinth, not just one time, but multiple times over 4 days. Seeing groups of teenagers, girls and guys laughing when the ball drained. How many times do you see someone happy when the ball drains?

Regarding software, if you are familiar with Eric aka epthegeek and the rest of the team, we do have more in store for this game and yes more animations and choreography are to be added. Will we please everyone? We will do our best to integrate more of this amazing world created by Jim Henson.

I cannot put into words how much this means to our family at Barrels of Fun. It could be because I am still tired from the show, but I wanted to come here finally and say thank you for your support. We do read Pinside, and we do take feedback good and bad. It’s the only way we can learn and help make us better as a company.

We look forward to seeing you all again in person soon. We will be at the Houston Arcade Expo Nov 10th through to the 12th.

I need more coffee. Thank you.

Tune in TOMORROW night (October 25th) at 10/9 Central and watch us stream Labyrinth! I was lucky enough to bring home a game from Expo and can't wait to stream it. We stream late so take a nap and come chat it up with us as we dive in and try not to get lost in the Labyrinth. I'm pretty sure some of the employees at Barrels of Fun will be in chat as well. See you all there!

Thanks for the detailed response David, very much appreciated. As a consumer just wanted to add that the transparency and foresight your young company has shown so far is super refreshing. Not a dog on anyone or any business out there, but clearly the BOF team sees gaps in the market or go-to-market and strategized before your launch.

Take your time, craft your product. We'll be here waiting patiently for delivery. (I have a Labyrinth on order!)

Surprised nobody's lost their minds yet with the power switch location. I see they went with the Stern approach. In the backbox.

Hats off the BOF on doing just about everything right for a young company. I wasn’t looking for a new machine or even interested in Labyrinth before expo, but after playing few games, it plays like a huge winner. If this is early code, then it’s an easy buy. All of us who buy for a home environment know that a game has to be immersive and entertaining to be worthy of a purchase. This game nails it. And I didn’t see or experience any technical issues all day Friday. Ordered the next day. Never done that after going to 10 expos.

Oh, and they seem like good dudes too.

Agreed! Went to expo and had the same experience but, I'll raise you buying a game based on gameplay at expo with the wifey actually making the call on this one! So cool to get the misses involved in the hobby with a theme she loves. She's never said, "we're getting that" and then we ordered literally in the waiting line to play again and again and again....

Side note for those concerned about the code...it's deep enough for me as is. If you're an expert player and want to find all the orbs and do all the things etc there's plenty already there to make an informed purchase imo.

Pinballfantexas Was just wondering if there will be any type of colorblind settings? I tend to really struggle with yellows and greens and other colors, so adjustments in the settings would be nice but not a deal breaker. I put in an order the day after the announcement and I'm so glad I did. Everything I've seen from the Chicago show just solidifies my decision. I am very impressed with your company and their work on this machine. This was definitely a dream theme for me. Thank you for making this pin happen and I look forward to getting mine!

This was my experience too. My wife is amazing, we don't ask each other for permission to buy things really at all. We share money but also have our own accounts. Big purchases we usually discuss, pets, vacations or vehicles. None of my pins got any ire from her at all, because she knows and supports my varying passions. So I'm grateful to have married a normal human being like this.

That said, when the Labyrinth sizzle reveal came out on Friday I was besides myself. I called her over and showed her and 1/4 of the way through the video she interrupted and said, "I want this one, buy it now." She knew we were holding out for MMr lol. Regardless I slept on it for 1 night and put an order in the next day, before Bowens gameplay vids or expo. Big roll of the dice but I had wife buy in in a way she doesn't do.

BOF figured out a way to package magic in a bottle with the theme and pin that reached beyond my pinhead self.

In a similar situation with my wife. It's always been a dream theme for her. When the hints were pointing towards Labyrinth I told her and she was so incredulous that she even stated she'd eat her own face if ANY company ever released Labyrinth. This was Oct 9th or 10th. Bwahahaha

Sooooo fast forward to the 11th when they announced it. She nearly fainted lol. No I didn't make her eat her face. But on the 13th our game was ordered within seconds of the shop being open. I've never seen her so excited about a game, although Weird Al was a big moment for her too. The one year wait on that one was horrible. This way is much better. Ships next week or thereabouts. WOOT!

It's really a brilliant play by BOF. Read the room. So many great pins in the last few years. Lot of new guys in the hobby buying up a bunch of pins. A lot of agitated wives. and who can blame them?

Marvel. Godzilla. Elvira. Dad Rock. Pulp Fiction.

Oh your wife loves the Avengers? Good for you pal but for most of us it's really hard adding 1 more machine with these less-than-female-friendly themes. GTF? More like GTFO.

Crowded pinball landscape. Softening economy and pinball market. How do you come out with a game as a brand new company that people will buy over all others?

You target the wives.

Don't try to convince me you BOF guys just really love the Labyrinth. I know you saw the future and were playing 4D chess the whole time.

After ordering Labyrinth I asked my wife about potential BTTF pin. Hard no. "But what about 80s Nostalgia?" She said 'maybe Goonies'.

Help me help you BOF.

(ps. not just wives. on TPS, Meny mentioned that he has had more women order Labyrinth than any other game combined. a lot of first time ordering from women who have gotten into pinball but haven't yet seen a pin that they wanted enough to buy. Very cool. again... great job)

#2336 10 months ago

Same here with my wife and kids.

People who know me know that I don't like to gamble in life. I like to bet on sure things. Hell no wonder I always loose at poker when I'm waiting to get 4 aces before going all in hahahaha.

I tried to rationalise all this in a short lapse of time and really had FOMO. I even watched Labyrinth just to test my sanity.

You guys at Barrels of fun can congrats yourself for messing with my mind big time.

I had to put a deposit with a distro and bought all the accessories for it directly from Barrels of Fun site.

Speaking of which I would like to know if David can work on some sort of extensions for the toppers so it can rest next to the game. Usualy people don't have any problems putting them on top of the pin. But for this awesome topper I think many of us will have a hard time because it is so tall.

Take care guys

Looks like this is a repeating theme with the wives. My wife actually showed me the table about a week or so ago. I was weary about a new company making pinball tables and somewhat quickly dismissed it. We were looking to buy our first real pinball table (we currently have a virtual cab) and have been trying to decide which to get. We had decided on MMR and put ourselves on the "free" waiting list. Fast forward just the next day, I watched multiple videos on youtube (shout out to CoolToy's vid) praising the game and thus was quickly rethinking my stance on the game. Once I brought it up with the wife, I soon realized how excited she was for this game and how much she loves the movie in general. Happy to say, we have this baby preordered!!

Actually there's so much going on right now it's an overload. We're actually getting married in 11 days even though I call her my wife already

Then in 18 days it's the honeymoon in Disney - yes we like Disney stuff.

And somewhere in all that I get Labyrinth shipped as well. Hopefully all sorted with the shipping and brokerage before I leave for Florida. Ideally arrives the Monday after our trip

Regarding the playfield backboard display specifically, In addition to what's already there I was told they are going to add the Bog of Eternal Stench, the labyrinth at eye level with the hedgerows (like where the wise man is), the fiery's area in the forest, and maybe more tbd.

There are a lot more callout lines from the movie planned. Topper speech and integration is really early right now. I have to imagine this game will be really polished by the middle of the production run. It's already impressive.

Labyrinth is a theme I don't give a flying crap about. I've never seen the movie, I don't think I even heard of the movie until I was like in my 20s and Youtube finally came around. Yet, here I am loving this game.

I just found these adjacent points amusing.

Being “original” is the same as having “a license”, in the sense that just being in one of those states doesn’t mean much.

It’s easier to sell a license. But a bad license and a mediocre original game are both going to feel flat.

If this was an original theme with this level of art and assets and integration people would be paying attention.

Still be harder to sell though.

A couple of technical questions if David or anyone can answer; firstly I'm curious which rubbers are used here - Superbands? Nice that there's another aspect that doesn't require modding from the get-go! Also, could you tell us the power output of the integrated amplifier, both to the cabinet woofer and the backbox speakers? Just in case I get the itch to change something down the track, would be great to know what power is available. Thanks!

Quoted from superNoid:

That’s basically how it was (and is) with my husband and I.
