Hi All,
I inherited this pure mechanical Ballyhoo recently, it’s in need of some restoration. What’s interesting is that while it says Ballyhoo on the playfield, it isn’t the Ballyhoo that Bally made in the 30’s. It’s something else, possibly a home made machine from that time period. They key differences are the nail positions, and the playfield was never painted. Does anyone know what this might be?

Is it possible this is it? No pictures to compare to but maybe you can find a Rock-Ola stamp somewhere.

Copyright infringement be damned back in the 30s.

Can you share a pic of the front, shooter knob, any coin op or metal?

I had the same thought!

Will share more pics soon. There is a shooter rod and ball return in the front. No coin mech.

Id say a Home Use Ballyhoo copy. 1934-1935, as my guess.

If there is any additional info inside. its possible, but rare, that this came before the commercial release.

Baffle Ball, as an example, had several home games made from 1933-1936, that lingered in stores at the end of production.

But because of your cabinet, its a bit more perplexing, as it would have been very expensive as a "toy".

I looked closely for additional markings but didn’t find anything.
There’s no access to the interior of the game, other than the ball return hole.

It seems strange that the score holes are blocked, so I’m wondering if the front knob was designed to turn and lift up/drop down a wood board inside. You would shoot 3-5 balls, and then when you were done you turn the knob and all the balls drop down and return to you.
For now, it seems as though all the holes are blocked from underneath (except for the 200 hole) and turning the knob doesn’t move anything. The ball return must be there for a reason though.

Below are more pics in no particular order: front of game, front of game with ball return removed, top of game with apron removed, and 200 hole which is not blocked for some reason.
