I’m working on a Black Pyramid playfield that had some wear and planking outside the mylar, and the mylar was in good shape but it was dulled and hazy. I knew removing it was probably an option with the possibility of lifting the artwork on the inserts, but I wanted to at least try to see if I could sand it and polish before dealing with trying to remove it.

I ordered the Hex polishing pads (cutting, medium and buffing), loaded up 1500 wet sandpaper on the random orbital and sanded the mylar around the pops. Then I polished it out with the three pads. To my surprise it polished out nicely.

I wanted to protect the areas outside the Mylar with Verathane, so I sanded the entire mylar surface, then carefully masked it all off. I then laid down several coats of Verathane.

I’ve removed the masking from the mylar and now I’m headed off to the lake for a week while the Verathane cures. When I return I’ll sand the entire PF smooth then polish it all out as one. Hopefully it will turn out nice and last for many plays at the arcade.

I’ll post the results here when I get it all done.
