Let me start by saying this is not an update with pics and secrets.. Current owners are kept up to speed by Johns online updates or visiting.. and its just not my place at all, sorry y'all.. I just wanted to share my experience briefly to anyone who is in on any of JPOPs projects or on a wait-list and has not had a chance to make it. Myself personally am in on his zombie pin. He really seems to encourage this type of visit as oppose to showing everything via internet, and he told me theres alot he is just not showing at all until the end.
Anyway thank you to John for his hospitality and accommodating me last minute by spending the afternoon with me at his workshop! I flew out to Chi-town for a quick three day business trip and really didnt confirm any plans with him until the day I got there. I just really wanted to see whats going on for myself since i havnt been following the updates anymore. Id rather be surprised from time to time and when I finally unbox the Zombie pin. The minute i walked into his studio I was was blown away by all the sketches, 3D molds/models, parts, artwork, etc oozing out of every desk and dept area! Im not a pinball expert but there was a station for engineering, design, testing, 3D printing! it was insane! I got to see alot of the updated artwork, sketches, some animations, sounds from the Zombie pin and everything but the PF for magic girl! He told me they will just keep sketches and cab art up on a prototype for several weeks to see if it holds its appeal. I thought it was a great way to operate cause something new today and get old quick after several weeks. The way he is incorporating the LCD screen is so sick and animations are well underway! AGAIN sorry for the lack of detail, my intention for posting this is to encourage others to visit with John. We chatted for a couple hours as he showed me around. I felt alot more comfortable with my investment/purchase, especially after seeing were things are at and listening to John describe the process and showing me some secrets. However at this point in all fairness I do feel there needs to be a new "official" projected end date, the payment schedule has been pushed back and as we all know no matter what your color, age, background, skill level etc building a pin is no easy take and takes a long time. So after hanging out for awhile we than grabbed a chi-town style hot dog at a local pub and he gave me a ride to the airport! What a cool down to earth guy! On the other hand he seems to always be processing.. you can just tell his gearbox is always turning thinking of new ideas, concepts, and making things come to life! Anyway I hope to make it back to visit again at Expo but not sure yet, I missed out on the Stern tour this time so hoping to fit that in as well.

PS ok heres the only secret, John has a small fridge in his office that was stocked with only water, after I left it was stocked with beer too =) he said only other person to do that was Chris with cointakers! great minds think alike!

Thanks for listening

I have only heard good things about the visits people have made! So exciting. If he can nail the code on his games, they will be legendary pins imo. Stay stoked John, stay stoked!

+1

I'm not in on MG or RAZA, but if I'm ever in the area I'd love to visit his shop. I'm a huge fan of his work.

I don't have a horse in this game, but I am really excited about the prospects here. I have a good friend who ordered one and I can't wait to get my hands on it!

Chances are that if a new projected end date it given, another one will have to be given when that date approaches as well.

This is going to be really cool, but it's also going to be a really long time.

We love our TOTAN and are delighted that John is back in the game. It's great for all of us.

You might be right.. but After seeing things first hand I can tell you it's gona be very worth the wait.. it is a very fair payment schedule also so that helps.

I think i do remember seeing a purple fat kid somewhere..

The process and getting to watch it all play out, input, etc. is worth at least 5k of the cost to me!

Doesn't matter how long, the ONLY potential issue will be the coding and gotta believe Jpop wants to make it great....

If I was forced to choose only one pin for my collection, this would be it and its a long ways out, in the meantime, I can always make my own pinball game on my wood floors and create my own ramps, course etc. using existing pinballs and a hockey stick!......

I can't wait to stop by the Zidware studio during expo. Thanks for the post-info.

Coding's easy. Fun rules are more challenging to make.

Jpops prices seemed high at the time of ordering but now they seem like a bargain, assuming the games actually get delivered.

#22 6 years ago

I wish we could lower them all....and still be all USA made...it's a struggle unless you just want a new game everytime with 2 plastic ramps and a spinner. Jpop

#23 6 years ago

How much for the next game with just 2 ramps and a spinner? I'm in.

Anyone else visited recently?

I think PDX Monkey and Fattrain were the last ones to pay JPOP a visit.

Problem is Jpop is soon taking orders for Alice in Wonderland before Magic Girl and RAZA are done. To me this is a bit silly. Finish the games and then take pre orders once the current games are finished or both near completion.

I agree. You shouldn’t be taking pre-order cash on a third title without putting out at least one of the first two. How many years have Magic Girl buyers been on the hook now? To me this move would stink of cash flow problems. I hope I'm wrong as I'm excited to see these games.

And you thought JJP was bad for taking deposits for the Hobbit. At least they had WOZ on display and being played at the Expos/shows, and started to be shipped at that time. And boy, did we give them hell for doing that.

I hope this is not true. Work on Alice, but don't take money until the others are completed.

#31 5 years ago

This isn't pinball. It's some kind of commodities futures speculation.

#32 5 years ago

JPOP announced Alice and Wonderland because it was a machine/theme that he had always wanted to build and he didn't want someone else to do it first (this is my understanding)
John has never asked for a dime towards A&W he has simply put together a list of interested parties and announced that it will be his next game after MG & RAZA.

You can pre-order now for AnW now.

You'll have to sign a NDA to find out.

#36 5 years ago

Well, there you have it. $1895 deposit for another vapor pin, 3rd one I may add.

#37 5 years ago

Wow, money for game three?
Is jpop running out of money from game one and two for the initial design? Maybe spreading initial base design funds out into game three? Probably not

#38 5 years ago

This whole thing strikes me as a guy that is too much of a perfectionist / artist to actually finish these things on any kind of reasonable timescale now that hes his own boss. Sometimes perfect is the enemy of good. If the funds run out before then, could get pretty messy. Road to hell is paved in good intentions

#39 5 years ago

That pre-order page makes me just want to edit that wallpaper so it connects properly ugh.

There is something right on about this and we'll see what ends up happening at the end of the day. I do really like the good intentions and perfectionist attitude!

Yes, did anyone ever receive "the letter" about the Alice game.
Sent a request and did hear back from Jpop but never after that.. though last email was Sunday before Xmas..
Oh well, will send a request again from the above link.. but yeah, is weird thinking about making a deposit on what so far is only vaporware..
Would be nice to see atleast Magic Girl actualy in production...

I went through some not so good times after Super storm sandy (being on the island and an insurance agent) and had to back out of the zombie pin. I sent John emails letting him know I was unable to keep up on payments and had to back out. John never replied back to me nor sent me my refund. I have sent him 3 emails and not a single reply. I did not think John would do that and I did not make a big deal about it. Not the first thing on my mind after what I went through, but after reading this I figure i would post my 2 cents. I also did visit John and had nothing but good things to say about what I saw. This feels like many years ago to me.

Give him a call. Much easier to catch him and get a response that way.

#44 5 years ago

If you are waiting for an email from JPOP it could be hours, days or months.... just call him and you will get action asap.

#45 5 years ago

I'd also say call jpop

Plus, I believe you need to sell your spot or have someone on waiting list to assume your deposit to get your refund.

#46 5 years ago

He has always replied back to me through email. I will give him a call this week.
