This past weekend, I was in Miami for the boat show, art show and for the Silverball Museum !!!!
After reading about it on Pinside and on their website, I had to go there to try some of these fabled machines.
There is no better place (to my knowledge as I have not access to the regular pinball shows in PA) to try various machines from the late 40's to the most recent DMD pinballs, in one and affordable place.
The Silverball Museum is located in the most exciting part of Delray Beach, right in the middle of the night life and entertainment. You could not dream of a better place. The Museum is adjacent to a very large parking which comes handy as there are a lot of people. Delray beach by night (it was Sunday night 02/19) is buzzing with nightlife, restaurants, cafes, fancy and unusual shops and great sports card cruising on the short length of Atlantic Avenue.
I arrived around 5:30 PM and was quickly taken by the variety of the machines. However, Sunday is family day and you want to wait for all the blond heads to go to bed, before enjoying the machines for yourself. The place is great and the only drawback is the noise level due to the extremely loud music being played. Quite a drastic difference from the Pinball Hall of fame in Vegas, where a religious silence reigns. I would recommend good quality ear plugs or noise cancelling devices if you intend to have a good time and focus on the games. At times, it was painful and took away a lot of the pleasure of trying all these incredible pinballs.
Here are some overall pictures and some of my favorites. There are many more and I could not play them all. Many were new for me, and get being discussed at great length on the forum. My curiosity was satisfied and may be opposite to what most people like on this forum:
Gottlieb Centigrade 37: a complete disaster and all my balls could not wait to get to the outhole. It is now out of my wish list.
Gottlieb Jumping Jack: Fantastic machine and so much fun: it was the first time I was playing it in 45 years and I scored 4 free games on the first play.
Gottlieb ElDorado: Great pin with very tricky shoots. I love it, even though the artwork and theme leave me cold.
Bally Mata Hari: I love that machine: it is like playing French billiard. It is all in the rebound.
Gottlieb North Pole: A disaster.
Gottlieb Sing Along: a fantastic machine with a great theme and artwork.
And now the pictures:
It really sucks, I cannot attach any of the 20 pictures I wanted to show....oh well.
