The dog came up, rested its paws on my drivers side door then left. Then I got scratches! Pissed me off!

Clearly the dog cares little about the environment. Almost as little as I do this post.

    You have a choices.

You can put the car in the garage under a cover and uncover it once a week, sip a beer and stare at your beauty then cover it back up and drag it out the following week for another sip-beer-stare-at session.

Or you can drive it and enjoy it and learn to live with rock chips, door dings, dog scratches, etc.

Blaming the dog is not an option.

Your problem clearly falls under the "shit happens" section of life.

If you own a Tesla then you can afford to fix it Those things are expensive.

Im confused. Did the car get scratched or did you get scratches? Maybe he gave you fleas?

I had the same thing happen with a friends dog on my '07 Mountaineer. Of course it's an 11 year old Mountaineer so I just shrugged and didn't sweat it. Driving an old vehicle is liberating.

Clearly your fault for being able to afford and own a nice car. And since you can afford a nice car no big deal for your loss. Note this is sarcasm.

I've owned some nice cars and had this exact crap happen to me on two occasions. Once a stranger and police ended up being involved. Once an ex gf. When I told her to keep the dog off my car she joked that's just how he is. That is why we are ex.

I'd mention it to the uncle. if he reacts with anything other than offering to help pay for repairs or assist repair then he gets socks for Christmas.

Fortunately if the scratches are just in the clear coat its an easy fix. Maybe a little light wet sanding with high grit paper and polish out with a buffer. I like the variable speed buffer from HF and CarBrite Workout and Black Pearl compounds. If you dont feel like buying the tools and materials and doing it yourself any paint shop should be able to do this in about an hour.

The car’s pretty much worthless now, I’ll take it off your hands for a couple hundred bucks.

OP: Pics or it didn't happen.

I think we need to hear the dogs side of the story before we pass judgement.

    Was the car ‘immaculate’?

One other thing: Since it is your uncle's dog I assume ( and I really hate to assume) that you drove into/onto your uncle's driveway. It that is the case, then you have entered the dog's territory and he is checking you out.

    #25 5 years ago

Perhaps consider some block letter "01" decals to cover the scratches and protect against future paint harm. They'd look classy on your Tesla as well.

Cool uncles have Cats or Monkeys... Dump that loser

    #28 5 years ago

C'mon guys, give him a break. That car was imamaculate.

    #29 5 years ago

Next we will hear that it has only been driven 600 miles in the past 12 years.

You have 20 other Bengal tigers?!

He just wanted to drive it.

But, but but....the Tesla was HUO!!

    #33 5 years ago

Most importantly, is the dog OK? Hopefully he didn't catch the pretentiousness-osis.

    #34 5 years ago

I feel your pain. My wife's cat scratched the side of my BK2K. I was hot.

The ONLY upside is she DIDN'T scratch the Medieval Madness sitting next to it.

    #35 5 years ago

I am thinking this thread may have legs (not missing Baywatch ones). Was it in imamaculate condition with only 600 miles?

Can't blame the dog. He was just trying to say hi.

    #38 5 years ago

File it under shit happens and move on with your life.

Asking your uncle to pay for it is pretty ridiculous and guaranteed to ruin many thanksgivings to come. Especially if it was his driveway.

The first question I ask when purchasing an HUO machine, "Do you have a cat?"

It's a car, it's just a thing, and things are temporary. And it's just a scratch. Shrug it off.

before this happened did you insult the dog in any way?

    #49 5 years ago

I almost had this happen when I brought my new Mini Cooper home many years ago, dog was stoked to see me and came running towards the open window and jumped. Somehow didn't make a mark, was quite relieved. I can feel your tension though!

I went to pick up a salad today and was at a weird angle when parking and just scraped the shit out of rim...worse gold flakes everywhere than my Metallica Pro. So scratches suck yes but now I have to order 4 more wheels because they don't sell them separately!
Even worse I have done this before, multiple times actually, and have to keep ordering 4 wheels, replacing 1, and then throwing away the other 3.

Uff and the salad sucked....the real tragedy of it all.
