My pride and joy in the world of pinball is an autographed Evel Knievel home version. We have had a lot of fun playing this game. A few years ago it failed to power up. And there it sat. Until recently I got ambitious and while knowing nothing about electronics I was able to repair the power supply, put it back together and BINGO...it lives. I would however like to replace the series 1 power supply which I have learned is notorious for failure and ruining the mostek 3850 ic. My question is, would it be possible to use a modern switching supply like the one pictured below. I feel like I could build a simple circuit to step down the 24vdc to the required 18 and 22vdc. It already has the correct 5 and 12vdc I need to run the game. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks friend! I did get the original board working and have looked at the Alltek replacements. Unfortunately they don't give any of the out voltages. They just list the games they fit and Evel Knievel home is not on the list. Guess I could look up the games on the list and cross reference the voltages. I don't know but maybe the voltage is standard. I need 5,12,18 and 24vdc.

You can't just replace the existing power supply and rectifier with a switching power supply. You would also have to add a capacitor board as the switching supplies cannot handle the sudden current rush of solenoids kicking in.

Switching supplies are very good for many things - not for pinball machines.

No, it's there on the alltek page.

While it's not listed on the weebly page, it is the correct board for the game: https://nvram.weebly.com/bally---stern-rectifier.html

Both boards will replace the Bally power supply number AS-2518-18 found in early solid state bally games, such as yours.

ForceFlow, just a note, the O.P has the *home edition* model. Different architecture to Ballys commercial games.

Dang! I really feel like you know exactly what I'm trying to say. But you may be overlooking the fact that it's a Bally home version. It isn't marked as an "AS" board. It's marked and known as a 0606-00906 series 1. It's out voltages are 5,12,18 and 22vdc. Best I can tell the AS series is totally different. But this is all new to me and a lot to remember and sort out. Again thanks for helping

Yes! I think that is where the confusion has come into play.

Thanks friend...got any ideas for me...should I just totally repopulate the original board?

Yes, that is a very simple power supply/regulator board. VERY easy to test and repair. Parts are easy to get and cheap. You could always send it to a repair tech - there are many on here who could replace all the required bits and test the board probably for well under $150 - maybe less.

Yep, sorry, overlooked that.
