So we've had a WD since release, and in all that time we've never had the head work reliably. At the Vegas touchtunes show, the Stern reps said WD update to fix that was their number 1 priority. We're still waiting. Our pinball league was unhappy with it, so I kludged together this solution. Now the head is nice and sensitive, and you can adjust the sensitivity very easily. I think it should work for anyone who wants to do it, because it requires no soldering or drilling.

Materials:

One of these reed switches: http://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/180-5145-00
(you can use a four tab too, but the two tab is cheaper)
A few small zip ties
One playfield post with a wood screw type bottom, like this: http://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/530-5010-01
A barrel spring

Step 1: Remove the roof from the prison.
Step 2: Bend the flashers out of the way to make some room to work.
Step 3. Push the rubber pad out from the metal stopper behind the prison head.
Step 4. Zip tie one end of the reed switch to the hole left by the rubber. Pull as tight as you can. You could probably use a screw, nut, and washer here, but the zip tie is easier and won't effect the reed switch.
Step 5. Make a chain of a few zip ties, and pass one end through the other tab of the reed switch. Pass the other end around the post for the flasher, and create a loop, helping stabilize the switch.
Step 6. Pass the plug end through the playfield hole in the back left corner of the prison.
Step 7. Thread the barrel spring on to the bottom of the post.
Step 8. Take your post, and put it at the top of the metal that supports the head, at an angle of about 15-30 degrees. Using a nut driver, slowly screw the top clockwise. It should slip between the head and the support metal without too much of a struggle.
Step 9. Lift the playfield, and locate the plug that connects the stand-up target to the rest of the harness. Unplug this, and plug in the reed switch to the same connector.
Step 10. Go into switch test, and adjust the post and switch. You can add and remove nuts and washers to the top of the post to help fine-tune things.

Have a horrible picture of the finished product.

If you want a quick temporary, but reliable, workaround you can just disable the doors in the menu. That way the optos are the ones that register every hit to the prison.
